Layered Cowhide Rugs

Layered Cowhide Rugs

I’m a big fan of the layered rug look, especially when one of the rugs is a cowhide.  I have a large greyish cowhide rug from Z Gallerie that was previously in our living room, on top of a sisal rug on our hardwood floors.

But, I also liked the look and feel of the cowhide rug in my office.  Liking the rug in both places, I ordered another hide rug (this time a spotted leopard cowhide rug from Jersey Road) for my office.  But, ug, it was way too small for the room!  I LOVE the rug though and it didn’t come larger,

The best thing about a long weekend?  A short work week!  I hope you are refreshed and had a great weekend.  My family (Dad included) rented a boat on Sunday and spent a few wonderful hours on the lake.  I had some moments where I just soaked it all in that we were all together and enjoying this day, enjoying life.  How beautiful.  Back at home on Monday, I spent a good chunk of the day getting down and dirty with my office closet.  A major clean out and reorganization was necessary.  Did you do any cleaning and organizing over the weekend?

Rifle Paper Magazine Holders

Rifle Paper Magazine Holders

I’m forever rearranging the items in my home office bookshelf.  I have the large Ikea Expedit which is perfect for housing books, containers, photos, decorative objects, etc.  Each cube is 12×12 so there’s lots of space to play with.

While the contents of the bookshelf were generally very colorful, it used to be dominated by aqua.  Now, I’m going for more pinks, blushes and golds in the bookshelf.  Not wanting to purchase more magazine files, I opted to cover my existing aqua ones in wrapping paper.

I’m a huge fan of Rifle Paper Co.

Office Updates // Inspiration Board and Rattan Chair

Ever since switching up the paint in my home office from light yellow to white (Divine White by Sherwin Williams), I’ve been making changes to the room and it’s finally coming together.  I decided on a color palette of black, gold, pink, blush, and white — which I am also considering for a blog redesign.

I put together an inspiration board filled with these colors and added it to a nook in my office, just to the right of my desk. You can see how I made the inspiration board HERE with the black and white polka dot fabric.

Can I just say that I am truly grateful for the love and support I felt from your prayers and warm wishes for my dad over the weekend.  Even if you did not comment, I still felt lifted up and appreciate so very much that you took a minute out of your day to pray for my family.  I normally don’t post the not-too-pretty side of life since my blog is my “happy place” but this was just too important not to reach out.  My family thanks you from the bottom of our hearts.  We got a chance to have a nice visit this weekend and it was good to just be together.

Pretty Paper Things

Pretty Paper Things

After I published my post yesterday, I couldn’t believe I forgot to add the funniest thing about my wonderful and loving Grandma — She is crazy for those 50 Shades of Gray books! She’s been on me to read them for months, but I still haven’t gotten around to it.  I know lots of people are fans- I just didn’t know my Grandma was one of them!

I’ve been busy doing other things, like going crazy buying washi tape and starting a blog calendar.  These are the things that make my inner 12-year-old girl all giddy.

Z Gallerie Jett Desk

Z Gallerie Jett Desk

I get a lot of questions about the Z Gallerie Jett Desk in my office.  Yes, I love it and would definitely purchase it again.  It’s sleek and clean looking and has a large surface area (57W x 30D x 32H).

One minor inconvenience is the bar on the shelf underneath.  I have hit my knees on it occasionally, and, I like to put my bare feet up there, but the sharp edges aren’t very comfy.

I found an inexpensive, quick solution by putting a piece of pipe insulation over it.  So much better!

My Home Office Organization

With legal work, blogging, and Stella & Dot, I’ve been spending many hours in my home office lately.  Thankfully, I truly enjoy being in this space and get a lot accomplished here.  It’s way more fun to work in an office that is clean, pretty, and organized.  I feel much better here ever since I painted the walls white (they used to be light yellow) and turned my desk to face the window.  Those two small changes made a world of difference.  I also found dark grey velvet drapes that feel luxurious in the room.

When I come across really amazing spaces, I love to share them with you.  Especially when they are created or designed by people I know and like!  Amanda of Amanda Carol Interiors is one of those women!  She is so super sweet and genuine and I had the pleasure of meeting her face-to-face at our blogger meet-up in May. I asked Amanda to share one of my favorite client projects she’s done- an office makeover.  I just love it!

Where I Blog {Office Makeover}

Most nights you can find me here, in my home office, working on my part-time lawyer stuff, browsing design blogs and websites, or blogging to my heart’s content.  It’s also where I do crafty stuff like play with my Silhouette, dream up decor plans for our home, and email with friends.  All from this pretty little (well, actually not so little) desk.  It’s the Jett Desk from Z Gallerie.  It’s one of the first things I ordered for the new house, because I liked it so much!

DIY {Inspiration Board}

DIY {Inspiration Board}

My office is coming along, slowly but surely.  I’ve made curtains, got a new desk, chair and chandelier (that still needs to be hung), and found a rug (so soft and plush on my toes) that I love!  Even though the room has a ways to go before it’s “complete”, I love disappearing into there and working, blogging, crafting.   The walls were still pretty bare, (except for my Blogs and Coffee poster:), so I decided to make an inspiration board. There is one wall in particular,

Office Rug Dilemma

Office Rug Dilemma

Okay guys, it’s Friday night and I need some help deciding on a rug for my office.   I originally had my eye on the grey trellis rug pictured below in my inspiration board, but West Elm doesn’t carry it anymore.  I found a similar rug online, but then got to thinking about doing a sheep skin one.  Then . . .  I started wondering if I should even do a rug at all because my office floor has tan carpet.  As a reminder, here’s my original plan: I’m 99% sure I’m going with this chandelier from Overstock. And here are my yellow walls,

For the last two days, I’ve been toiling away in my office organizing all of the papers, paints, stickers, decorative paper, stationery, cards, wrapping paper/bows/ribbons, and other various office and crafting supplies.  My fabric arrived today, so now I need to make curtains, which will really bring the room together.  I was happy to finally get around to framing and hanging my “Blogs and Coffee” poster, which I love!  It’s hung opposite my desk, so now I see it while I’m sitting at my desk blogging away, drinking my morning coffee:)  The frame is from Ikea (I had to slightly trim the poster to fit),

While I was out and about searching for fabric for our mudroom, I found the perfect “I-love-you-you-definitely-belong-in-my-home” fabric to make curtains for my office.  So happy!  The fabric is Waverly Bedazzle Silver Lining.  I had to special order it, so it should be here in about two weeks.  Now I’m inspired to get my office in some semblance of working order and start actually using it!  Here’s the room just before we moved in: And here is my inspiration board: Inspiration Sources David Jimenez:  The original inspiration for my office is the oh-so-talented David Jimenez’ Palm Springs Regency interior.

Where I Blog

Where I Blog

Kate at Centsational Girl posed this question over the weekend: I love the idea of asking this question because I also often wonder about those types of details of people’s lives.   For me, I typically blog after my son has gone to sleep and my husband and I have eaten dinner and spent a little time together.  My place of choice is on the corner of our couch in the living room.   It’s a comfy spot to curl up in with my laptop, has a lamp, and is near an outlet so I can keep my computer plugged in.

Office Inspiration {Sunshine}

I love yellow.  To me, it’s cheery and fun and inspires creativity.  That’s why I decided to go with yellow on the walls of my office.  Little did I know how tricky yellow paint is.  The first three samples were oh so wrong, and finally we ended up going with paint that was actually more cream than yellow (I need to ask our builder the name of the color) but was exactly what I was looking for.  I’m thinking of adding black and white accents to the room.  Here’s what I’m working with: I recently ordered this desk that I’ve been eyeing for ages (Z Gallerie) and chair (Crate &
