Office Rug Dilemma
Okay guys, it’s Friday night and I need some help deciding on a rug for my office.  I originally had my eye on the grey trellis rug pictured below in my inspiration board, but West Elm doesn’t carry it anymore. I found a similar rug online, but then got to thinking about doing a sheep skin one. Then . . . I started wondering if I should even do a rug at all because my office floor has tan carpet. As a reminder, here’s my original plan: I’m 99% sure I’m going with this chandelier from Overstock.
And here are my yellow walls, curtains, desk, chair, and tan carpet.Â
Here are the rugs I was considering: 1. Sandoval Grey {Peerless Rugs}
 *OR* 2. Himalaya White Rug {Overstock}
What do you think? Is there a better one out there, am I on the right track, or do you think I should forego the rug altogether since I have carpet? I really value your opinion. What say you?
I'm on the fence, but think I too prefer the first. Here is a link to one at rugsusa.com The motif reminded me of your drapes.

I don't know…. I'm in a rug holding pattern myself and I kind of think you should get the room together without the rugs and live with it a little bit and see how you feel. Especially since it does have carpet and since you aren't 100% sold on one rug and they aren't cheap!
Now I'm thinking of getting both and returning the one that doesn't work. Thanks for your input!
I'm loving that first one! It's going to be one gorgeous office!
I think the gray trellis patterned one is just what you need for the wow factor in your study. I think the sheepskin one would feel nice but lack the special touch to pull everything together.
The first rug… love it! Will pull the room together.
It's ok to put a rug on neutral carpet so no worries. 🙂
I vote for the grey trellis rug! I think that it would really tie the room together.
I guess I am the only one who votes for a white shag or sheepskin type rug. Think it has great texture and a feminine quality that compliments the room. . . . but survey says grey trellis!
I love that trellis one! 🙂
i like option 1! i like they grey contrast, i think it pulls in the grey and yellow since the carpet is tan
rug #1. 🙂
A rug will really make the room..like the cherry on the cake..I love your first choice..it will compliment all your other soft furnishings. Sheeps skin rug..Hmmm…no…I dont think for an office…more bedroom I would say.
I say stick with your first choice and vision..it is perfect sweety 🙂 xx
If it makes you feel more SURE about which rug….go with both and return, but I adore the 1st one too. 🙂
Cheers~

I like the first one, but both are nice. Good idea to buy both and return!
I love the trellis one too!
Here's another option that we're thinking of using in our entryway.

The price is great too!
I love the sheepskin and you could use a smaller version to layer on some type of seating. As a mom I think of getting possible stains out of the sheepskin…
Your blog is awesome! We just moved into a new house and this has been so inspirational!

I am loving the gray one. I ordered one like this (Shadesoflight.com) and when I got it, I didn't like the feel of it. It was really rough and thin. I don't know how that one will feel. The gray will hide a lot of things, the white one…well, James will be walking around soon and stuff happens, I'd go with gray 🙂
I saw grey too. I think it will just really complete your color scheme.
Trellis!! I have zero style when it comes to stuff like that, so what do I know? But I think it would look nice. 🙂
Dash and Albert makes a gorgeous soft gray rug similar to the one in your idea board.
I have a picture of it on this post:

Your room is coming together beautifully!
I love the first one. But I agree, buying both is a great idea, sometimes you have to see it in the room.
The gray one with the cool design. The 2nd one is plain & might just get "lost". The 1st one makes a statement! 🙂
I love the gray trellis rug. What about getting this smaller sheepskin from Ikea (http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/70026822) and putting it on your desk chair like this: http://lonnymag.com/issues/9-oct-nov-2009/pages/1#p26. That way you get the best of both worlds!
I vote for the grey trellis one. It will stand out more on the neutral carpet
Another one for the trellis! I am loving how your office is coming together. I have had my eye on that light fixture as well….I love it for that price!
I agree with everyone, I think a rug would add a special touch. I too have been considering a patterned rug for our living room that has neutral carpet, I just feel the space needs a little something!
I love the trellis rug!! It would bring everything together, and add a fun pop! Do it! 🙂
Where did you get the curtains? I love them!!
where did you find the fabric for your curtains. I am in love with the pattern. We just purchased a 2nd home and I am decorating the girls room in greys and yellows. Thanks for the inspiration.
i like the sandoval grey rug!
LOVE your blog, beautiful home!

And how about adding some more pictures? I’m not trying to offend anyone, site is really great. But as I’ve heard humans acquire information much more efficient if they see certain useful pictures.

Be practical when buying home office furnitures. Do not let the style overcome your purpose of buying a piece. Functionality should always come first
