New Home Decor

August 11, 2023

Hi friend!  I hope you’re having a great week!  We’re finally in Galveston soaking up our last days of summer!  I’m so thankful for this trip and time with my brothers and their families, plus our mom.  It’s so fun (and loud!) all being in the same house together.  Wouldn’t trade it!

I mentioned earlier this week that I’ve been adding some new home decor to our home and I wanted to share the pieces I’ve added and how it’s coming along. Several of the items are still on their way, but here’s the progress so far.

New Home Decor

Entryway

Our entry way is a blank slate and also very narrow, so it’s been challenging to know how to decorate it.  I’ve considered adding decorative molding to the large wall or painting it or even wallpapering.

This is where we bring in our packages and the walls tend to get scuffed up.  They’re painted with flat paint, but I feel like the magic eraser and touch up paint shows up splotchy and it drives me crazy.

I’ve been saving entry inspiration photos on my Pinterest board, and that’s been helpful to see what would look good here.

For now, I’m just adding a rug, console table and mirror to the small wall on the right below and we’ll see how that looks.   I’ve had this same Walmart rug in the entryway previously, so I know I like it, but my puppy had accidents on it, so I had to throw it away.

Thankfully, he’s fully potty trained now, so it should be fine.

The Homegoods console table is very narrow (9 inches), so perfect for this tight space.  It’s only $130 with a travertine top and looks very similar to higher end ones on designer websites.

Living Room

Here’s how my living room last looked with the washable printed rug, but I since moved that rug to our back patio and I’m loving it there.

Without that patterned rug, we have a lot of white on white on white, so I bought a new rug to bring in some contrast.  I’m taking a chance not seeing the rug in person first, so fingers crossed it works.

The new rug arrives next week and I’m excited to see how the blue and tan colors look in the room.  It on the more traditional side, and should feel soft underfoot.

Upstairs Hallway

I wanted to bring in a piece that would function for more storage space and this six-drawer dresser is perfect.  I really liked the modern style with curved edges and black color to to add contrast and coordinate with the black stair railing

I shopped around and found it online as several retailers, so if you’re interested, you may want to see which store has the best price.  You can do a Google image shopping search.

Vase, Magnolia Stems

I love the look of this vase and faux magnolias so much that they’re in my new Loves Giveaway!  Three stems fills this vase perfectly.

I’m also smitten with this little lamp and it provides the perfect warm ambiance to the hallway at night.

Below is what we had before.  That console had served us well for many years, but the two drawers are very shallow, so not great for storage.  I added the decorative pulls.

Bedroom

My bedroom has been begging for some art or wallpaper over the bed, and I’ve finally gotten around to looking and choosing a piece.  I’m thinking these hues will look pretty here and tie in with my bedding.  It’s also a serene scene and that’s the way I like my room to feel.  Nevermind the wrinkled duvet cover.

Pantry

I was watching Dream Home Makeover and Studio McGee was making over a kitchen and turning the unused formal dining room into a walk in pantry.  When it was time to style, they used lidded baskets in the pantry as large hidden storage.

I loved that idea and thought it would work perfect in my own pantry.

I had to search for awhile to find the perfect size for my pantry drawers, and I love these lidded baskets from Pottery Barn.

  1. I also have a narrow entryway—looks similar to yours! I love your Pinterest boards), and I think will steal your mirror and table ideas! I was kinda paralyzed about this space (moved in 2 years ago after my husband built it), and you have helped me get some fresh ideas—thanks! Have a great time with your family!!

  2. Love your pantry and would love a post about your cookbooks! Which ones you get the most use out of, which have the simplest tried and true recipes, which are good for special occasion or party recipes, etc. Probably niche content, but if you’re ever looking for a post idea, would love to hear about them!
