My Evening Routine for a Successful Day

Hi friend! Welcome to a fresh new week! I hope you are doing awesome and that you had a great weekend. We celebrated my daughter’s 10th birthday on Sunday and there’s no school today so it’ll be another one with friends over and feeling a little weird that it’s Monday, but the routine is more like a Saturday.

Today I wanted to share my typical evening routine with you as it’s kind of become second nature to help me set my day up for success.

We all juggle so many responsibilities and different things from day-to-day so I try to be as organized as possible and plan things in advance. I know it can feel like we never have enough hours in the day, but if we plan and prepare properly, we can get more things done than we think. And then we can also have time for the rest we truly need!

When we have a goal in mind, it’s actually the habits and routines we do on a consistent basis that help us reach them.

The more decisions you make ahead of time, the fewer excuses you have in the moment. When healthy habits are already set up, it’s easier to follow through because you’re not relying on motivation, you’re just following the plan.

Knowing that, I’ve started trying to prep as much as I can the night before, which definitely sets my next day up for success. Especially, when it comes to my health and fitness.

My Evening Routine for a Successful Day

We usually eat dinner around 6:30 p.m. and so around 7:00 p.m., I head back into the kitchen to get it all cleaned up.  I really love waking up to a clean kitchen, complete with the counters wiped down, dirty dishes in the dishwasher, and the sink shined.

There’s nothing worse than waking up in the morning and having to deal with a sink full of dirty dishes before you even have coffee!

It’s weird how over the years I’ve come to actually look forward to this time in the kitchen. Sometimes I put on my AirPods and listen to a podcast or YouTube video while I clean.

After the kitchen is all clean, I’ll light a candle and that also helps me relax and unwind. A little reward if you will.

Because my health and wellness is a big priority, I also spend a few minutes on the MyFitnessPal app planning my meals for the next day. Knowing what I’m going to eat eliminates that decision fatigue that naturally builds up as the day goes on.

I tend to eat the same things on repeat because it’s easy and I enjoy it, plus it fits my macro and calorie goals. If you want to see what I eat in a day lately, you can go here or watch my latest vlog. I’m up to over 2,200 calories a day!

I always make sure I have rice cooked, chicken baked, and pico prepared. I also have bell peppers cut up for my morning egg scramble. If I’m really on top of things, I will actually meal prep some of my meals into glass containers so that all I have to do is reheat when it’s time to eat.

While I’m in the kitchen, I will also fill up two water bottles and put them in the fridge. I fill up a 40 ounce water bottle and add my creatine and peptide and take that to the gym with me to drink while I work out. I keep my creatine and peptide in the same location so that it’s easily accessible when I go to put it in my water.

I also fill up a 30 ounce water bottle and start drinking that when I wake up and drink it in the car on the way to and from the gym.

Prepping those water bottles helps me get 70 ounces of water drank pretty early in the day.

Same thing with my oatmeal (which I eat twice a day) – all of the components including the oats, chia seeds, cinnamon, raisins, and almonds are all within arms reach.  I don’t like to have too many things out on the counter, but since I use these canisters often, it’s more practical for me to keep them out.

My vitamins are also right there on the counter, which reminds me to take them after I eat my second meal of the day.

Because I usually walk on my treadmill and workout in the morning, I also lay out my workout clothes (including undies) before bed.

I keep my socks and shoes in the mudroom since that’s where I put those on. You can use my code HONEY25 for 25% off at TrueEnergy socks.

I will also put my AirPods and iPad on the treadmill after making sure they are charged up so they’re ready to go when I step onto the treadmill in the morning.

The less interference between my goal and what I have to do to accomplish it the better!

If there are too many steps or obstacles in the way, it just makes getting things done that much more challenging.

Even if I’m tired in the evening and don’t really want to do these “extra” things before bed, I usually make myself because I know how much I’ll appreciate it the next day.

My future self is always thankful when I have done these little things the night before!

I hope these tips are helpful for you! If you have any tips to share in the comments, we’d love to hear!

  1. Thanks for sharing your tips. One question, you prep your meals. Does that mean that you then cook totally different meals each day for your kids?
