Office Update | Reading Nook
Hi friend! I hope you’re having a great week! We are into our second week of school and still trying to find our groove. 5 am comes so early! How are things going for you?
One thing that’s exciting is that I gave my office a little reading nook and it’s so cute and I’ve been loving this little corner of my office.
Office Update | Reading Nook
With Rhonda no longer here:( and her desk now down in the first floor office, I’ve decided to turn the little unused corner of my office into a reading nook!Â
Chair • X Bench • Tray • Side Table • Throw Blanket • Similar Lamp • Vase Faux Florals & Here • Rug
This corner of the room was the perfect place to add a comfy lounge chair and I found an amazing upholstered chair on Walmart! It’s similar to the much more expensive Pottery Barn version and also swivels!
It comes with four small pillows, but I removed one to make it less crowded. I also added a throw blanket for extra coziness.
I’ve been coming here every morning to read, journal, and have my quiet time with the Lord. It’s been amazing!
I’ll light a candle and turn on the lamp and it’s such a peaceful atmosphere to start the day. And of course, Luke always joins me.
I found the wooden fluted side table on Walmart and like how the wood warms up the space. It also provides a nice spot for my coffee, journal and a vase.

I felt like I could use an ottoman to rest my feet if I wanted to stretch out and found this little wooden x-bench on Amazon.
I’ve also been coming here in the afternoon or early evening for a little chill time. It’s been helpful to recharge and keeps me from plopping on the couch vegging out on tv.
I also rearranged my office closet and brought in all my books so that I could have them in one place. I love how it turned out! It was a hodge podge of stuff in there before.
I considered arranging the books by subject, but that proved challenging, so I grouped them by color and love how it looks.

Adjacent to the reading nook is my desk where I write all of my blog posts and spend much of my day.
I stole Jordan’s desk chair out of her room (we ended up donating her desk when we added the bunk bed), because it sits higher and is more comfortable for me. But, I’m not crazy for the color so I may change it out in the future.
I like to keep my desk surface very minimal as it helps me focus best that way. I’m easily distracted, so having it pretty clear helps me stay on task. I also use the digital timer to help me complete projects.
My digital timer and headphones help me complete projects without distractions. My headphones are currently $100 off if you’re needing a new pair.
I put my markers and pens in a marble cup.
Tray • Candle • Match Cloche • Scallop Bowl
I do like to light a candle for ambiance. It’s just nice to work with a candle flickering, even in the daytime.
I recently upgraded my trash can to this pretty fluted can with a lid so I don’t have to see all the trash.
Bookshelves • Wooden File Box • Rattan Boxes • Fabric Boxes
The room gets such beautiful natural light with huge windows and a super tall vaulted ceiling. My bookshelves are from Wayfair and I’ve had them since my old house. They affix to the wall so there’s no danger of them tipping over.
The cabinet is also from Wayfair and it holds my office supplies, gift bags, note cards, stationery, etc.
ZZ Plant • Planter • Picture Frames
I recently moved the plant from the kitchen to the top of this bookshelf here and I love the life it provides. That plant is so low maintenance and just beautiful how it cascades.
Similar Plant Stand • Fiddle Leaf Fig
I’m also happy to report that the fiddle leaf fig I ordered on Amazon is doing amazing too! I keep it by the windows since they like natural light.
Rug • Table • Bar Cart • Rug
I couldn’t bear to part with my old marble dining table, so it sits in the middle of my office. It’s hard to keep clear since things tend to accumulate on flat surfaces, but it’s nice to have a place to spread out papers and returns.
Wooden Tray • Vase • Floral Stems • Match Striker
Don’t worry, I never light the candle near the faux florals.
Chair • X Bench • Tray • Side Table • Throw Blanket • Similar Lamp • Vase Faux Florals & Here • Rug
I’m so happy with the little reading nook I’ve created in my office!Â
I’m thankful that Rhonda and I live close and she still comes over to take my photos occasionally. Also, our sons have both started high school at the same school, so we are constantly checking in with each other. Rhonda’s best friend, Melissa, has been working with me remote, so I do still have some help. 🙂

Kitchen Tour – The kitchen is one of the first spaces I fell in love with in our home. It’s open to the dining room and living room and so pretty with the blue cabinets.
Pantry Tour – I need to update this one, I’ve minimized so much in this space since I initially shared it two years ago.
Living Room Tour – This is how our living room was first decorated when we moved in, using most of what we already had in the old house.

Backyard Tour | Patio, Pool & Garden – We made a big change when we added a pool to the backyard. I’m so glad we did that, we use it nearly everyday!
Have a fantastic day friend!
Megan, I love the books organized like that on your shelf! I also love your ivy draping down the other shelf….it’s all so pretty! You are always so organized and neat!
What a lovely and calm place to cozy up and also to GSD 🙂 My kids start school on Sept 4th! Soaking up the last couple weeks of summer but also looking forward to a quiet house during the day.
I wish our school started later. These last two weeks have been very challenging. Wishing you an awesome school year Jodi!
Looks great and sounds like you’ve really made it more functional for wgar you need! Thanks for linking the Walmart chair, I wouldn’t have thought to look there! Great deal! Also I like the idea of using a closet for a built in bookcase. I bet your books won’t get dusty as quickly as out in the open.
My little library! I’ve decluttered lots of books, but these are the ones I’ve kept. 🙂
I guess I missed that Rhonda wasn’t working with you anymore. It makes sense with how you are rearranging your blog and what’s important to you. Glad that you two are still close.
Oh yes, I miss her being here daily though!
Ooh I wish I had a wee nook like that, it looks perfect 🙂
Thank you so much Aileen!
Very nice decor! Where did Rhonda go? I guess I missed that post!
Hi Lisa! Rhonda left to focus on her kids and family towards the end of summer. Her daughter was going off to collage for the first time and she wanted to spend as much time as possible with her before she left. She said now she knows how fast the last 4 years go, so she wants to devote that time to her son. He’s the same age as my son and they are starting high school together at the same school so we still keep in touch often. She actually picked up my son from school yesterday and she’s watching Luke while Elliott and I are in Round Top. 🙂
