FLORIDA TRIP

I’ve been a busy bee getting ready for our trip to Florida NEXT WEEK!  I’m so giddy for this trip because: 1) I really need it, and 2) it will be the first time Brian AND his girls AND my kids are getting to spend so much time together.

All of us together for a week! He’s driving and we’re flying.  Jordan doesn’t do well in the car for that long and one of his girls doesn’t enjoy flying.  Plus, this way, we’ll have his truck to use while we’re there and he can haul all.the.things!

Can you believe we’ve been dating for almost a year and a half now?! I answered more of your questions about our relationship here if you missed it.

When we both have our kids, we get together so they do see each other pretty regularly.  I’m so glad they all get along so well, and they are all awesome kids!  I so enjoy Brian’s girls and the sweet relationship we are forming.

I’m excited to see how the week goes and I’m also prepared for those times when people are moody, need their alone time, or just don’t gel.  That’s ok, and part of life.  Especially when you’re combining two families with a total of four kids!

I welcome your tips and suggestions!

10 PACKING TIPS

Whenever I’m packing for a vacation, I always look at the weather, then consider how many days and nights I’ll be away, and also what we’ll be doing. For this trip, we’ll be gone a total of 7 days, two of them travel days.  The weather in Florida is mid-70s to 80s with a chance of rain.

I always wear a comfy outfit for the day of travel with a jacket in case it gets chilly in the airport or on the plane.

But packing!  I’ve never been a good packer, but through trial and error, reading other bloggers’ tips, and experience, I’ve learned a few things and I’m a much better packer now!

10 Packing Tips

TIP #1

Plan ahead.  In the past, I’ve been notorious for thinking “I’ll just throw everything into my bag in the morning before we leave.”  That is NEVER a good idea!  It always left me super stressed out because there’s never as much time as you think you need to get ready!  Now, I’ll start planning and packing a week in advance!

TIP #2

Lay out all your outfits (including undergarments, shoes and accessories) so you don’t forget anything.

TIP #3

Snap a photo of your outfit on your phone so you can remember what goes with what when you’re getting dressed while out of town.

TIP #4

Pack in terms of a capsule wardrobe to help you pack less.  Choose complimentary colors and pieces that you can mix and match.  For example, one top can go with your jean shorts, jeans, and maxi skirt.

TIP #5

If you’re worried about the weight limit on your bag, wear your heaviest items.  For example, put on the chunky sweater, boots and coat instead of letting them weigh down your suitcase.

TIP #6

My Grandma Nola was a world traveler and always rolled her clothing when packing.  She said they’re less likely to wrinkle that way and they take up less room.  I often do a combination of rolling and folding, depending on the item.

Softer garments like underwear, t-shirts, jeans, cotton pants, and knitwear are easily rolled and stiffer fabrics can be carefully folded.

Use packing cubes to separate and organize your clothing.  I have different colored cubes for different family members and it makes identifying their things much easier.  I will also pack one cube with swim outfits, flip flops, coverups in case we get to our destination before check-in.

We can easily pull out one cube, change into our swimsuits and hit the pool until the room in ready, without having to dig though all of our luggage.

TIP #7

If you’ve ever gotten sick or had food poisoning, minor cuts and scrapes, bug bites or other ailmens while traveling, you know how handy a small medical kit can be.

I bought this one and usually keep it in my car, but I’ll also pack it for travel.  It has essential first aid supplies for treating minor aches and injuries and comes in a sleek zippered bag.

TIP #8

If you don’t have a dedicated jewelry bag, you can pack each item in snack sized ziplock bags so everything stays separated and doesn’t get tangled.  These clear bags are genius for keeping things separated and since they’re see-through, you can easily see what’s inside.  Use them for TSA travel-size toiletries, makeup, sunscreen, jewelry, snacks, toys, you name it!

TIP #9

Bring an empty bag for dirty clothes.  When you get home, simply dump the entire bag into the laundry room for washing instead of trying to sift through the packed clothes to figure out which ones are still clean.

A plastic bag is also handy in case you’re going home with a wet swimsuit.  Shoes can go into one-gallon size reusable bags so you don’t get dirt and germs all over your clothes.  I put them in packing cubes.

TIP #10

Have a nice set of luggage you enjoy traveling with.  There are so many affordable options with wheels that glide like butter no matter how heavy your suitcase is.  I have a not-so secret crush on my luggage!  It’s practically bigger than me, but glides like butter!

WHAT I’M PACKING FOR OUR TRIP TO FLORIDA

And now for the fun stuff and decisions! What am I packing for Florida?!  Since this is a kid trip to the beach, it’ll mostly call for swimsuits, coverups, jean shorts, tank tops and sandal.

I also want to be comfy while we’re lounging at the house, cooking, playing games and making s’mores.

We may go out to a couple of dinners, and I’d like to wear something cute for that.  Plus, I just got all those darling Summer of Fun clothes that I want to wear!

So . . .  here’s some outfits I put together for the trip!  #overpacker

BodysuitJean ShortsFringe Top (that goes over a tank or swimsuit) • Slip On SneakersBracelets

Now that I finally got the right size slip on sneakers, I can’t wait to walk around Florida in them!  They run large, so you’ll want to size down half.  They’re light as air on your feet with a cushiony footbed. I also appreciate the breathability factor. I got the neutral (01-beige), but they come in several colors.

A good pair of jean shorts is a must, and I’m sure I’ll be wearing them on repeat, as an outfit or just throwing on over my swimsuit.  I splurged on this pair by AGOLDE and I don’t regret it!  I like the style, fit and color and have been wearing them a ton already.  I sized down one to a 24. For a less expensive option, this pair by Walmart is also super cute and only $24!  I wear a 0 in those.

The bodysuit is sassy and looks great for date night with jeans and wedges or heels too. I sized up to a small so it wouldn’t be so tight.

Shoes Fit: Size down half

Bodysuit Fit: S

Shorts Fit: 24

Button Down Ruffle Top • Striped ShortsStud SandalsCircle Bag

I’ve worn this exact outfit a couple of times already, so I know I feel good and comfortable in it.  The shorts pull on and the top looks a bit dressier than a regular tank or tee.

Top Fit:  XS

Shorts Fit:  XS

Gingham Shorts • Gingham TopTube BraceletsFringe Sandals

I just got this adorable shorts and top set at Loft and it’s so cute on!  The top isn’t as short as it looks and the shorts are a tad higher and longer. I like the lightweight waffle textured material and the neutral large scale gingham pattern.

And the sandals are as cute as they are comfortable.  I wasn’t sure how well made Treasure & Bond sandals would be – Sam Edelman brand is a no brainer, but I’ve only worn Treasure & Bond apparel, not the shoes.  This pair has a soft denim material knotted with a fun fringe trim.  And the footbed is lightly padded for extra cushion.

Top Fit:  XSP

Shorts Fit:  XSP

Henley Tank • White PantsStrappy SandalsBudha Girl Bangles

These pull on pants are on island time (with pockets) and I like how the shorter tank fits right at the waistband- no weird lumps because the tank is too long over the drawstring and you don’t have to tuck it!

Tank Fit:  XS

Pants Fit: XS

Embroidered TeeJean ShortsStretch BraceletsSandals

You saw this top in yesterday’s Summer of Fun post, and it’s definitely coming with!  These are another pair of jean shorts that I’ve had for years and they fit really well, with a relaxed vibe.  I’m adding the stretchy bracelets for a pop of color.

Tee Fit: XXS

Shorts Fit: 0

Gibson Bodysuit (code HONEY15 for 15% off) • Leopard SkortBudha Girl BanglesSandals

I like this outfit because it looks like a flouncy mini skirt, but it’s actually shorts with a cute ruffled elastic waist.  I’m pairing it with the comfy, full-bottom bodysuit that snaps.

Bodysuit: XXS

Skirt Fit: XS

Tie Dye Sweatshirt • Tie Dye ShortsSlippers

Of course, we’re planning on lots of down time and hopefully there’s some snuggling on the couch, eating popcorn and watching movies.  This tie dye shorts set is perfect for that!

This is the most comfortable lounge set!  I’m sure to sleep in these, have coffee and make pancakes for the crew in them!

I’ve packed several swimsuits, including this floral bikini top & bottoms that I wore to Mexico, this gorgeous blue one-piece, the pink one-shoulder bikini, and the trusty, always flattering striped swimsuit.

As for coverups, I’m taking the shorts romperMaxi Cover Up that I can also wear as a dress, the popular Amazon Crochet Cover Up, and Crochet Tank Cover Up.

Travel Bags

 Toiletry Bag/Travel Case

I shared these bags in Tuesday Goodies yesterday and they are fabulous!  They feel kinda like neoprene and come in a set of three.  They’ll be perfect for holding things and I love the fun colors and contrasting zippers.  Inside is practical with mesh slip pockets.  And they’re only $12 for the set!

I liked them so much that I also got these bags!  The blue one will be for James and can hold his toothbrush, toothpaste, retainer, floss, face wipes, and deodorant.  I’ll probably have Jordan put little toys/crayons/markers or things to do on the plane in hers.

I also got this beach bag with a zippered cooler on the bottom and these beach coasters to keep your drinks sand free at the beach!

BEACH BOUND

If you’re beach bound this Summer too, I have more outfit inspo for ya!  How darling are these pieces and they go with that whole mix and match color combo thing! 😉
