Fall Basics Outfit #3
How was your weekend?  We enjoyed a pretty relaxing Saturday at home, beginning with one of my favorite breakfast dishes- Pioneer Woman’s baked French toast.  I usually save something like that for the holidays, but October has me already looking forward to them!  We’re planning our annual pumpkin patch visit with the family for next weekend!  I just hope we get some cooler weather for it!  Yesterday, I started sprinkling our home with Fall decor and now I’m totally in the Fall spirit!  I’ll show y’all on Stories until I can get it photographed for the blog!
We’re continuing on our Mix & Match Fall Basics run (see Outfit #1 and Outfit #2) and I’m super excited about the next two outfits because they feature some of my most favorite Fall pieces!
For this post, I’m showing you how I take jeans and a basic boatneck tee and make them Fall ready with knee boots, a scarf and cardigan. Â It’s the easy formula for transitioning your wardrobe from Spring to Fall. Â In the Spring, I’d wear the jeans and top with a sandal or wedge, but for Fall, it’s all about boots and booties and those layering pieces!

Do you love a boatneck, 3/4 sleeve tee as much as I do?!  They just make me feel ballerina chic for some reason and I have this particular one in several colors.  The white isn’t as opaque as I’d hoped it would be, but it’s not super sheer as you can see above.  It just seems the others colors are more opaque.  Of course, as a layering piece, it’s a non-issue.
Sizing: The top brand is Caslon- which I find runs big, but they do have petite sizing, so I usually buy XSP, or SP in their tops.Â
Before I go on and on about the outfit, you’ll notice my reversible tote – again! Â Do you have it too? Â Raise your hand if you have 2 or 3 or more! I’m in the #3 category and quickly approaching #4 if I give in to the temptation for that bronze one!
I wish my necklace were still in stock. Â I hate disappointing you when something sells out before you get a chance to grab it, but jewelry isn’t something I tend to buy much of, so many of my pieces I’ve had for years. Â This one is a similar link style with a tassel. Â And I’m all about those dark black Aviators that make me feel a little bit Secret Service chic, but I can only wear Ray-Bans since I discovered the fit trick a couple years ago.
A sweet (and super helpful) sales associate at Nordstrom finally showed me! I had been thinking for years that I couldn’t wear that style sunglasses, but she taught my otherwise! Gotta love the customer service at Nordstrom, they truly are the best when it comes to treating the customer right.
I’m making any excuse to wear these GORGEOUS soft suede knee high boots that I originally showed you with this Sweater Dress in last week’s This & That post. I really lucked out on this pair, because often I have to try on at least 5 or more to get the fit, color, and style right, but this was the first knee high boot I ordered and they were an immediate YES! Nordstrom did have this one that was a close second, but I’m super happy with my first choice!
I love the almond suede color that is the perfect light neutral to go with so many things in your closet. The style is clean and unfussy, just a simply stunning boot with a block heel that’s not too high and not too low. The boot hits me right at mid-knee and I’m 5’1.

So, once you’ve got your basic outfit, you can easily add interest with a scarf that brings in color and pattern.  I’m crazy for the colors in this plaid scarf and how it perks up the outfit. It’s infinity style and the colors are so good for fall with a little bit of unexpected bright teal!
Next up, you can layer a cardigan and I’m partial to this Snuggly Cardi – although I had to peel it off after taking these pics in our Texas heat!  I’m sure anyone who happened to see us snapping this pics thought I’d lost my mind!  But, I’m okay with that since I know you’d appreciate seeing it on!
This cardigan is really good – soft, stylish, petite friendly, good quality, and budget conscious.  It’s not at all scratchy, is longer length, but won’t overwhelm a petite frame, machine washable and under $50! It fits pretty TTS, I’m wearing XXS.
I also like the cardigan worn over a dress (see the look here).

Being the neutral lover that I am, I also like this outfit with just the tan colored cardigan and without the pop of color. Â It’s such a classy, soothing look in this more monochromatic color pallet.

Have you been lucky enough to actually get to enjoy your cardigans and scarves yet?! Â Have a great week!
