How was your weekend, friends? We had a nonstop one with a birthday party (but you now know my trick on those!), baseball game (almost won), and a girls’ night out to celebrate one of my oldest and dearest friend’s 44th birthday! I can’t believe I can now say that I have 20-year-old-plus friendships! #old Now I’m looking at a short week at home because I’m heading to NYC for the BH&G Stylemaker event. It always feels so rushed trying to get out of town, right?! Thanks to you, I know what I’m wearing for the event, but I still need to figure out what I’m packing for the rest of the trip!
Today, I’m sharing with you this awesome shirtdress that will be your best friend this fall! It’s a lightweight crepe material (think less wrinkles!) with sleeves, a chest pocket detail and a great v-neck cut (very flattering). It comes in several pretty fall colors, and for less than $50, you’ll want to pick up a few! I have the black and navy and want the plum! The mustard yellow would look so good with all the warm-hued fall scarves and on my brunette friends.
The dress fits TTS and isn’t too short, even on my girlfriend that’s 5’8. It’s slightly longer in the back, with a higher cut on the side. Also worth mentioning, is that this black dress is totally opaque, so you don’t need to worry about flashing!
I wanted to give you some ideas for how to wear this dress different ways to get the most mileage out of it. Let’s go!
Shirt Dress XS ⋅ Old Booties (new version) ⋅ Leopard Clutch ⋅ Similar Tassel Necklace ⋅ Similar Stud Earrings ⋅ Link Bracelet (similar for less) ⋅ Watch ⋅ Ring Trio ⋅ Black Aviators ⋅ Lip Color ‘Baja Bound’ & ‘Tickled Pink’ Gloss
Of course, the dress looks great on it’s own, with just changing up the shoes and accessories depending on the occasion. For work, I’d choose a classic pump, but for a night out, while it’s still warm, an open toe heel would look great.
Starting with the dress as your foundation piece, you can then start to layer other pieces on top to create different looks. I love this black and white dotted scarf and it’s infinity style, so you just loop it twice and you’re done! The scarf is lightweight and on sale for $9!
I also finally invested in another pair of Ray-Ban aviators- the black for fall/winter, but of course, you can wear them year round. I had the blue and wear them so much, that I knew I’d love the black too for a change. Here’s the aviator fit trick if you need the lesson. #Idid! If you love the look of Ray-Bans, but want to save some money, this is a good dupe!
Y’all know I’m crazy for this crossbody bag! I’ve been carrying it nonstop, even though I originally bought it for travel. It’s the perfect size, not too small and not too bulky, and it unzips for extra room if needed. It also has inner & outer pockets with card slots too. The front part stays magnetically closed, which I really appreciate too. I hate it when you can’t keep your bag closed!
Now’s the time when I want to add alllll the layers, but it’s still usually too hot to do that, so a military vest is the perfect transition piece. I get so much mileage out of this vest and really love it with that classic long sleeve striped shirt/jeans/bootie look.
Adding your military vest over your dress looks super cute, especially with the short sleeves peeking out and because this jacket has adjustable ruching at the waist to help define your figure. I also added fun hoop earrings and switched up the necklace.
You could even change into black slip on sneakers (this pair is cute, cushiony and very well-made) for a weekend of errands.
I’ll be counting the days till I can ‘comfortably’ wear this suede moto jacket! It is insanely stylish and looks fabulous with this dress! You definitely CAN mix black and brown, but I still prefered the black bootie. The jacket fits TTS and will last for years to come.
This small quilted clutch does double duty with a detachable gold chain. #blingbling I wore it out on our girl’s night and got lots of compliments on it! Just the perfect size for something compact.
Finally, I wanted to show you a work look because I know most of you wake up Monday through Friday and get dressed for the office. I put on my favorite classic pumps, but if you can’t handle the height, try this pointy toe flat. While saving your feet from heels, the pointy-toe will elongate your leg. It also comes in leopard!
Speaking of leopard, I added this print cardigan over the dress for a different look. This cardigan was a wardrobe staple when I worked in an office. I love the 3/4 sleeve lenght and it comes in lot of colors. It’s a thin, soft sweater material, perfect for layering over tops and dresses and looks great with a skirt. I like it with either just the middle button buttoned or worn open. It comes in regular and petite, and I’m wearing regular XS.
And I finally dusted off my classic pearl necklace. I forgot how much I love it! So classy and elegant!
Do you have a favorite look? And be honest, how many colors do you want this dress in?! I mentioned that I also have the navy, so I’ll be back tomorrow showing you more ways to wear that one!
Have a great week, friends!
