In the Dressing Room

We made it to the end of the week friends!  Do you have any fun weekend plans?  It’s been jam packed over here with the speaking event on Tuesday, football game and bunco on Wednesday, our back-to-school night last night and a birthday party tonight.  We’ll also be celebrating two more birthdays this weekend, so it’s kinda nonstop, but that’s how it goes this time of year!

And I have to say, you guys rock!  Based on your responses to yesterday’s fashion dilemma, the tweed romper it is for the BH&G event! I’m so excited and glad that y’all liked it as much as I did! Now, I just need a spray tan!   If I’m using self tanner at home, I usually use this spray because it goes on evenly, creates a nice color that you can layer, and smells pretty good.

So, onto today’s Dressing Room post that is actually Part 2 of last week’s post!  I couldn’t fit everything in, so I broke it into two! If you missed last week’s, definitely check it out because there is so much fall goodness and lots of sales!  Not to mention Nordstrom Triple Points! And LOFT is having a MAJOR sale, 40% off everything!!  You bet I’ll be getting my thirsty little keyboard fingers ready to shop this weekend!

Also, let me know if you want me to do these dressing room posts more often.  I usually only do them once a month, but then they always end up being so long!

For fit reference, keep in mind I’m super short, just 5’1, about 105, 108 pounds.  I often wear petite or size down for the best fit for my frame, but I’m also busty (34D) with ‘athletic’ i.e. bigger legs, so that can be a challenging combo.

plaid ruffle top

Plaid Top TTS  ⋅ Ruffle Skirt 00P ⋅ Frayed Hem Jeans 0P

When I was trying on this navy ruffle skirt yesterday, I wanted to see how it would look with other tops besides that white eyelet blouse and tweed jacket.  That tweed jacket is now haunting me by the way- thanks for getting in my head J. Crew!  But, how adorable is this plaid ruffle top?!  That mix of yellow, blue and rust is a fresh color combo for fall. I’m dubbing it the pumpkin patch top because as soon as I put it on, it made me want to immediately pack up the kids and head to the nearest one!  With taupe booties “foxy”, right?! Soon, my friends!

I’d say it fits TTS because I tried on 00P, but I think my typical 0P would be better so the ruffle sleeves would come out further, kinda looks like I might fly away in this one! 😉

3/4 sleeve ruched sleeve blazer

Blazer TTS, XS ⋅ Frayed Hem Jeans 0P ⋅ Ballet Flats ⋅ Peplum Tank US2

You always need a trusty blazer in your closet because they immediate help dress up your outfit.  I like them for date night with skinny or bootcut jeans and a heel, or over a dress and with a skirt.  If you always keep a blazer on your office door, you’ll be ready in a pinch if you need to be more dressed up than you actually are that day.

Eliza J Blazer

This blazer is a winner for me because it fits my more casual lifestyle with 3/4 length sleeves.  It’s a little hard to tell in the photo, but it has ruched sleeves and and you can wear it open or with the one-button closures.

_____

You’ll be seeing a ton of stripes in this post, but I won’t apologize!  I can’t seem to get enough! #sorrynotsorry

boatneck striped top

Top XXS (on sale in red) ⋅ Frayed Hem Jeans 0P ⋅ Ballet Flats

I adore a boatneck, 3/4 sleeve top and when you add in stripes, #winner! Just a classic look and the top is well made with a nicely weighted fabric.

striped bell sleeve top

Top XXS on sale Tassel Chain Necklace

This top is thick like a sweatshirt material, but with added flair with the stripe and bell sleeve combo.  It does have a boxy fit, so I prefer it with a partial front tuck.

pink bell sleeve sweater

V-Neck Sweater XXS ⋅ Skinny Crop Jeans 24P 40% offBooties

I found more bell sleeves with this v-neck sweater.  It’s soft as clouds and has some stretch to it, very cozy! It’s on the shorter side, so it would look great with your bootcut jeans.  I’d also recommend pairing this pale pink with your grey jeans, such a pretty combination!  In the winter, that would be so cute with a pink/grey plaid scarf.  You can machine wash this sweater and lay flat to dry, which is a bonus.

LOFT color block sweater

Sweater size down, XXSP 40% off

Okay friends, please don’t hate me for showing you this colorblock sweater in one of my all-time favorite color combinations!  If you’re like me, you will want it so bad, but unfortunately it’s got wool in it (7%), so I can’t keep it on without a long sleeve shirt on underneath.  🙁 If you are okay with a lightweight wool blend, this sweater definitely needs to be in your closet!  I love it with jeans, but it would also look great with a red or plum corduroy skinnies when the weather gets chilly!

LOFT red navy ruffle sleeve top

Top TTS, XSP 40% off

Now this top is soft! No problems there!  It’s a thin knit, one of those perfect Spring to Fall transition pieces if it’s still hot out because it’s lightweight and short flutter sleeves, but darker, more Fall colors.  The mock neck is loose, so even if you usually hate a turtleneck collar, this shouldn’t bother you.  It would look great tucked into a skirt.

madewell jeans

Hi Rise Skinny Jean 25 ⋅ Button Fly Skinny Jeans size down, 24 ⋅ Bodysuit XS

I’m channeling my inner Khloe Kardashian in these high-rise jeans and black wrap bodysuit.  The bodysuit is surprisingly comfortable, but it does dip pretty low.  I appreciate a body suit for keeping your middle all smooth, espeically under an A-line skirt where a fitted top balances out a more voluminous bottom.

As a fan of the Madewell brand, I wanted to try their jeans, and the two pair I tried I loved!

Hi Rise Skinny Jean 25 (more sizes here) ⋅ These jeans are seriously amazing!  They are a great solid, darker wash without distressing so it’ll be very easy to dress these up with heels.  Holy moly they make your legs look long and your butt look good!! Who doesn’t want their @ss to look great in their jeans?!

I dug into the Madewell website to read more about these jeans and it said that they get this ultra flattering look due to ” a tricky detail—Magic Pockets in front that offer an extra layer of holds-you-in sorcery for the slimmest, smoothest look yet (plus, a touch of added stretch ensures you’re still totally comfortable). Go ahead and tuck in your shirt—you’ve got nothing to hide in these jeans.

I tried on my normal size 25 and they fit comfortably, but I would probably size down to a 24 so they wouldn’t stretch too much during the day.

Button Fly Skinny Jeans size down, 24 ⋅ Button fly jeans are always in style in my book and you definitely want to at least front tuck your shirt to show off that cool detail.  The high rise in these is also super slimming and if you added a heeled bootie, we’re talking sky-high legs!  They hem is ‘chewed’ so if they are too long, you can easily shorten them yourself with kitchen shears and a bit of fraying.

striped madewell top

Striped Top TTS, XXS ⋅ Frayed Hem Jeans 0P ⋅ Ballet Flats

Back to stripes! #toldya! I’m smitten with this top because of the perfectly, thin and relaxed feel of this material! If statistics are right and you wear 10% of your closet 90% of the time, this is in my top 10%.  I’m always reaching for this kind of long sleeve top because I get chilly, but the casual cut and fabric make it still look stylish.

side tie top

Side Tie Top (solid) XS (runs small)

Here’s another one of those perfectly relaxed-as-PJs-but-still-fashionable tops in a thin knit.  It’s got that added front knot tie that’s ups the cute factor! It’s more sheer, but you not so much so that you need a cami.  It was fine with just a nude bra underneath.

lace sleeve top

Lace-Up Sleeve Top TTS (XS, but needed XXS) ⋅ Frayed Hem Jeans 0P ⋅ Ballet Flats

When you’re looking for some extra special detail in a top, you don’t typically see this type of laced sleeve + ruffle detail.  I really like the ruffle collar and hem and only wish I could’ve tried on a smaller size because then it wouldn’t have looked as boxy.  The sides rise up slightly to create more shape.  If you were to wear this on a girl’s night out, you’d be sure to hear a chorus of “that’s so cuuuuttteee!!”  At least if you were with my friends! 😉

ruched sleeve sweater

Gibson Tie Sleeve Cozy Fleece Top XXS ⋅ Skinny Crop Jeans 24P 40% offBooties

I found more fun detail in this suuuuuper soft and cozy fleece top.  It’s fleece, so you can imagine how cuddly it is.  But aren’t the ruched, tie sleeves a fun addition? It’s not banded at the waist, but it is cut smaller so it helps define your middle as opposed to being shapeless.  Right now, I love it with jean short and slip on sneakers!

v neck cream sweater

BP Knit Tunic (bell sleeve sweater, oatmeal) TTS, XXS ⋅ Skinny Crop Jeans 24P 40% offBooties

I had to show you this sweater even though it’s still warm here because I’m afraid it will sell out in a hot minute!  It’s under $50 and comes in several colors – the light blue and pink are really pretty and unexpected for this time of year. Isn’t the cute perfect with the slightly wider v-neck and longer length?!

black white striped v-neck sweater

Striped Sweater XSP ⋅ Skinny Crop Jeans 24P 40% offBooties

I’m so happy to see this lightweight v-neck sweater come back in stock.  I bought it last year in white with black stripes, but I bought XS and prefer the petite.  I consider it a MUST HAVE because it’s a thinner weight that in Houston we can wear for both fall and winter and I love the cut of the v-neck and even the higher black trim on the sleeves.  It’s versatile depending on whether you tuck it in or leave it out and if you scrunch your sleeves or leave then down at your wrists.  Come winter, add a pop of color with a colorful scarf.  I also like how the stripes mismatch up the middle. Does it make you crazy?!

If you were trying to decide whether to get the white or black, I’m no help. #getboth 😉

Knowing cardigans are all we’re gonna want to be wearing this time of year, but it’s still pretty warm, I’ve been on the hunt for a great fitting, flattering and quality camisole.  I found two I really liked and can recommend!

navy dot camisole

Camisole ⋅ Frayed Hem Jeans 0P

Aren’t these polka dots sweet?! This is another win from H&M at only $12! Even at that price, it’s double layered, so not see-through.  It’s instant date night if worn alone, or layered with that blazer at the top of this post (the blazer comes in navy too).

express cami

Best All Around Camisole ⋅ Frayed Hem Jeans 0P

And I was pleasantly surprised to find this ‘best all around’ camisole at under $40! It’s satin and double layer with a flattering cut. I liked it so much that I bought it in several colors.  You can tuck it all the way into your pants/skirt at work with a jacket on top or wear with a chunky knit cardigan like I did here.

cardigan express

Cardigan TTS, XS ⋅ Frayed Hem Jeans 0P ⋅ Similar Bootie

I hadn’t encountered a waffle knit cardigan like this before, so that lighter weight fabric is good for now and I love this warm color.  This one is a little big on me, a size down would still be a casual fit, but not quite so sloppy looking.

criss cross sweater

Criss Cross Sweater TTS, XS

I couldn’t tell if I loved or hated this at first #so80’s!, but it quickly grew on me!  I’m team #coldsholder and the lace-up front is unique.  I like how you can dress this up for a night out or put on your comfy boyfriend jeans and run your weekend errands. Again, I should’ve tried on XXS for a better fit, although this one isn’t bad.  But sizing down would make it a little less low cut and a little smaller though the hips.

Express ruffle sleeve sweater

Sweater XS

Ruffle sleeves are all the rage and I dig the contrasting hem on this sweater.  Also, the ruffles aren’t too crazy big, so they don’t overwhelm a petite frame. This sweater also comes in a pretty pink with a plum contrast (love!) and soft ivory with a black contrast.  Actually, I like both of those options better than this grey!

express black blouse

Lace Blouse XS

This might be a fun night out for NYC, right?!  I bet after being in a dress or jumpsuit, I’d love to change into a blouse and jeans with booties!  The ruffles and mesh/lace fabric are totally romantic and even more so in pink. The camisole is built in, so there’s no worry about adding extra bulk, just wear a strapless bra for no straps showing.  This top looks espeically chic with black pants and heels.

Sam Edelman ballet flats

Ballet Flats ⋅ Leopard

I’m all for heels, heels, heels, but your feet can only take so much, espeically if you’re at work all day in them.  If you want a charming, but still dressy flat, I love these by Sam Edelman.  They make quality shoes that last forever and these are particularly cushiony and comfortable.  And there’s more colors than the neutrals above.

This calf-hair leopard flat is a little sassier with the pointed toe and will elongate your leg more if you prefer that style.

I think I tried on all the dresses in yesterday’s Help Me post, but this striped beauty wasn’t in there.

loft striped dress

Striped Dress size down, 00P 40% off

As a super stripe fan, I liked how this fit and flare dress plays with both wider and thinner stripes.  But, this dress is surprisingly soft and snuggly!  It’s very stretchy on and you almost feel like you want to curl up on the couch in it- it’s like a shirt material.  But look at that ruffle sleeve detail!  Isn’t it cute?!   Loft always run big, but this dress was cut too big in the waist.  The first pic is how it fit, the second is with me holding in the excess fabric. Definitely size down one.

zella tee

Workout Tee TTS, XS

I’ve been so hit or miss with workouts lately, but I never give up, even when I fall off the wagon.  Even though I usually like to workout in a tank because I get hot, I can easily workout in this tee because it’s breathable and easy to move in.  It’s also figure flattering with the artfully placed front seams.  And then if I have to run an errand after the gym, I don’t feel so self conscious.

zella capri leggings and tee

Workout Tee TTS, XS ⋅ Similar Crop Leggings

If “ride or die” was in my vocabulary, thethe Zella high waist crop leggings would be my ride or die workout pants!  I didn’t see this exact style online, but this pair is a similar design.  I love them because they are amazing quality, last forever, and the high waist keeps your tummy all tucked in. And they are always super cute!  Gotta have cute workout clothes! #forthemotivation!

  1. Yay! So glad you went with the tweed romper — so unique and pretty. Love that cold shoulder lace up top, and I definitely need a good pair of black flats for the fall/winter. Have a great weekend… hope you have a few minutes of down time! 😉
