One of my new year goals is living more in the moment, but I have to admit, I’m already dreaming of Spring. I’m tired of the dreary rain and cold weather we are having here in Houston. Bring on the sunshine! On Honey We’re Healthy, I’m already dreaming of swimsuit season! I added a dose of pretty to my master bedroom recently and it made the room (and me:) feel a little brighter.
I had a small, black console table from Overstock from my old office that I spray painted gold. The shiny metallic took it from boring to bling in an instant. When shopping for things like furniture, picture frames, vases, etc., always keep in mind that, if the shape is right but the color is wrong, you may be able to spray paint it to make it right for your space.
After I spray painted three light coats of Rust-Oleum bright coat metallic finish gold paint, I styled it with some books, a gorgeous vase of pink tulips from the grocery store, and one of my favorite pictures of my little guy. (He’s just two months old in that picture!)
I was surprised to find Penguin Classics fabric covered books at Homegoods while I was doing Christmas shopping. They were my Christmas gift to me this year!
Bloom, by Kelle Hampton is a great book (I read it in two days) and I love her blog. Do you read it?
Grocery store tulips are perfect for welcoming Spring! Aren’t they cheerful?

Meet Megan
Hi! I’m Megan, mom to a thoughtful teenager and spunky young girl. We call Houston home and recently moved into our dream home. I traded my lawyer hat to become a full-time blogger in 2010. I love sharing my passion for affordable fashion, home decor, organization, & fitness to help inspire you to take care of you!
Unbelievable difference…boring to bling is right! It's such a beautiful accent now. Love the way you styled it too 🙂 And congrats on the House Beautiful feature, so exciting!
Thank you Jennifer!
super cute! been looking for something for our front entryway this would be perfect! great DIY
I'm so ready for Spring too! The table looks amazing!! Congrats on the feature!
Love the transformation. And, that is one of my favorite photos of James too. I cannot get over that head of hair!!
I know- he's almost a little blondie now!
Love it! Also, it was fun to see you interviewed on Emily's blog today 🙂 xo Kristin
beautiful transformation! love the gold.
It looks gorgeous! I am so in love with gold furniture lately! A few months ago I bought a black coffee table & sprayed it gold. It made a huge difference in the look! (If you're interested, the link will take you there!) http://designedtodwell.blogspot.com/2012/10/glamorous-gold.html
love it!!
In the past I was not a fan of gold, and now I see a little bit popping up here an there on different blogs, and I am really starting to love it in small doses. This is the perfect example. This vignette looks amazing. Nice work, and I am glad it is brightening things up a little for you 🙂
Oh Megan, I love everything about this! The style and lines of the table, your gorgeous styling, the gold!! That's my favorite spray paint too!
The table looks great! I'm considering painting some hardware gold and was concerned the gold wouldn't be shiny enough. I'll have to pick up that spray paint if I decide to do it. Thanks!
I have the same exact table from good old o.co but the side table version and painted it gold a few months ago when we moved for my new office – i love it! Yours looks stunning as well – great minds think alike! 😉 xo
Oh i love it!! it turned out perfect!
Love it! Though i disagree on the choice of paint. You can get a lot more for your money by using paint marketed at "graffiti artists".
This in particular may be to your liking – http://www.writersbench.co.uk/spray-paint/molotow-burner-chrome.aspx
I have been stalking this table on Overstock forever now! Love it! And I LOVED your answers to the 5 (actually 6!) questions!
This is beautiful! I have a black bed frame I have been dying to spray gold but I hadn't stumbled on the right one yet! Can't wait to try it now!
OMGosh I love this!!!!! Great idea!!
Hi Megan! Did you have to sand the table down first before you applied the spray paint? Thanks!
Hi! I did not sand the table, just sprayed the paint right on the original finish.
This makes me want to spray paint something gold! It turned out gorgeous!
Also, congrats on the House Beautiful feature! 🙂
It looks great! So pretty! Tulips are my absolute fave. I'm with you on being ready for spring. I live in Baton Rouge & all the rain we're having is driving me crazy! Have a great day!
What a transformation! Love the new look in your house.
I love the table its perfect!! I love how you see beautiful in everything!!!
Love it! The gold definitely brings it a fun new life! 🙂
Hey Megan! Were the Penguin Classic books at Homegoods being sold at a discount?? I'm always tempted to pick them up at Anthropologie, but I'd love to get them on sale instead. 😉
Thanks!

This is beautiful! I have a black bed frame I have been dying to spray gold but I hadn't stumbled on the right one yet! Can't wait to try it now! thanks for sharing click here for my stuff.
This is beautiful! The gold looks so elegant. I'm featuring this on my blog today 🙂 http://www.diynewlyweds.com/2013/02/friday-faves.html
I'm very jealous of you guys having access to rust-oleum in the States. We have to import it to the UK and it's very expensive. The best I've found for us Brits is the premium plasti kote paint from UK Tool Centre but even that has a tendency to gunk and gum if you're close than about a foot. Impractical at best, impossible at worst!
Beautiful table and thanks for the recommendation on what spray paint to use. Did you have to lightly sand the table and then prime it before spray painting it gold? Or did you just go for it? 🙂 Thanks!!
What's the wall color? I love it!
