Faux Flower Fan

Yes, I admit it! While I prefer the real deal, I have a few faux flowers around my home.  Since our color palette is pretty neutral, I love to add color with flowers.  I usually buy a fresh bunch from my grocery store every two weeks and keep them on the kitchen island and/or breakfast table.  But, I love the pay-once-never-die option that faux flowers bring. Real image Faux- JoAnn’s (4 stems in this vase) image Real image Real image Real image Faux- Pottery Barn.  These are a new addition to our kitchen.  I really like them:)  Could maybe use a stem or two more.  I have 4 here – vase is from Target. image Real- I love to keep a couple stems by the kitchen sink.  image Real- love the height and color and they aren’t even all blooming yet. image Real- left over from James’ party.  I don’t normally do red, but these are gorgeous!  Little $1 vases from Wal-Mart. image Real – already wilting after just a few days 🙁 image Faux- Crate & Barrel.  I’m planning to put it in this.  I can never keep real orchids alive. image Faux- Pottery Barn?? I can’t remember, I’ve had them forever.  The grass stems are from Pier 1.  Vase is a recent purchase from World Market. image Real-  love to keep a few stems in my office too.  Daisies are super inexpensive.  Vases from Crate & Barrel. image image Real image Real image Faux- these are the hydrangea’s previously pictured in the living room.  image Real- but I don’t normally keep fresh flowers in my closet! image ******* P.S. A big thanks to Elsa at Casa Greer!!!  I won her giveaway, a $50 gift certificate to Home Goods!!  Yay!!!!  Thanks – can’t wait to go shopping!! image

So pretty!! I like using fake flowers too- sooo much cheaper than real ones. Plus when I find a color that looks really good in my house I don't want it to die! I can not even tell you how in love I am with your closet. I could just sit and stare at that picture!

  2. March 10, 2011 / 2:27 am

So pretty! And the faux flowers (sounds so much nicer than fake!) look great – good quality ones are definitely worth the investment 🙂

And how did you score a closet like that?!

  3. March 10, 2011 / 2:27 am

i love faux florals and use them all over my home—they add such a nice touch 🙂

  4. March 10, 2011 / 2:56 am

I have to say, the fake ones are so versatile and they look great!

Sorry I was looking all around the flowers but can you tell me where you got the fabric in the dining room (maybe?), the grey and white under the wilted purple flowers? I've seen it in other colors and love that color.

  5. March 10, 2011 / 2:59 am

Whoaaa! I got exhausted just looking at all the spots you have vases and flowers and keep thinking what a pain that would be to keep changing out! I'm lazy though, you aren't. I love them–they are gorgeous.

Great, when are you taking me to Homegoods to celebrate your prize?

  6. March 10, 2011 / 3:02 am

And I have to add…that when I first saw your title, I thought you had made a fan. Out of flowers. Gosh I'm a dork.

  7. March 10, 2011 / 3:15 am

Dedication! I like the faux flowers that come in the vases that have the glue in them that makes it look like it's water. (And then you have to touch the flower petal to find out if it's really real or not) Know what I'm talking about? I like that until I see them in someones house or restaurant and the glue is so old it's now turned to yellow. Not cute. Ha anyways your home is beautiful as always! Take care!

  8. March 10, 2011 / 3:21 am

Love all the floweres….they are like an accessory in your house!!! Perfect, thanks for the inspiration!

The timing of this post is too funny! I was literally just thinking earlier today that I wanted to add some simple faux flowers to our bedroom. I love fresh flowers, but I also like the longevity of the fake ones!

  16. March 10, 2011 / 10:29 am

Oh real flowers are always great! I love them! I used to wait until hubby would buy them for me, but lately, I have been supplying them 🙂

    Definitely brightens up the room!

Great post! I really enjoyed it!

Congrats on winning the Home Goods Giveaway! Home Goods is the best!!!

  17. March 10, 2011 / 11:14 am

Oh… was this post about flowers because I was checking out every little detail of your home…BEAUTIFUL! (and yes so are the flowers!) I try to keep fresh flowers around…haven't gone faux yet…hmmm

  18. March 10, 2011 / 11:25 am

Love fresh, but faux is easier in some rooms! And, now they look so real it's hard to tell the difference. I don't do too many due to our dust allergies, but with a quick spray of compressed air, they clean up easily. Just a few more weeks, and I'll be bringing them in from our yard, can't wait!

  19. March 10, 2011 / 11:43 am

Wow – I'm one for real flowers but these fake ones still look great!… when did they start making fake flowers that really look like real flowers 🙂

  20. March 10, 2011 / 11:50 am

I wouldn't have thought, that faux flowers could look so real! I wouldn't have guessed with any of them, except maybe the little white ones.
Aren't flowers just so lovely to look at? I find that they brighten the dreariest of days! x

  21. March 10, 2011 / 12:46 pm

Wow, you have a lot of flowers in your house. Love them all. May have to pick some up at the grocery today. Thanks for the inspiration.

  22. March 10, 2011 / 12:52 pm

They're all lovely! I love hydrangeas…hoping mine will bloom this year. (They had a rough summer last year) Nice faux flowers are a great substitute for the real thing. 🙂

You LOVE flowers! So do I. They totally brighten up a room (: I love how many vases of flowers you have all over your house. I wish I lived there!

I do admit–I love fake florals, however nothing can replace the real deal!

  25. March 10, 2011 / 2:07 pm

I love the plate the blue crate and barrel vase is sitting on top of in your office, so pretty!!

  26. March 10, 2011 / 2:50 pm

I recently bought some fake hydrageas just because a) I kill everything real and b) my cats eat flowers. But I planted a few hydrangeas last year in hopes of getting some pretty blooms to put in vases! Cross your fingers the harsh winter didn't kill them!

  27. March 10, 2011 / 2:58 pm

You mentioned that you can't keep orchids alive – I may have discovered the "trick" – I read recently that they take in water through their leaves. I started watering mine with a spray bottle and it is going CRAZY! New blooms, new shoot, etc. Try it! It's beautiful!

  28. March 10, 2011 / 4:08 pm

I would LOVe to have real flowers all over my house, but it's just not realistic financially. I love what you've done with the faux ones! and I love the colors you have all over your house.
And again, I am so jealous of your closet!! 😉

  29. March 10, 2011 / 4:38 pm

Love all of your flowers! I'm a fan now of the faux flowers – just got some faux hydrangeas for the kitchen table – love it! 🙂

I can be a faux flower fan as well. I actually have some in my living room at the moment!

  31. March 10, 2011 / 6:50 pm

I love having fresh flowers in my house so one thing I started just a couple weeks ago was planting a few flowering bulbs! I planted 2 types of peony's 1st > Sarah Bernhardt (light pink) and 2nd > Karl Rosenfeld (deep rosey pink) and some Ranunculus. These all make great cutting flowers in addition to my Blushing Bride Hydrengea! Cheap solution to fresh flowers if they only bloom this year! My fingers are crossed since I don't exactly qualify as a "green thumb"!

Love all the fresh flowers you have around your home! Hoping I'll get to do the same thing with the new bulbs I planted in my yard!

I love having fresh flowers all over my home and I do so regularly. But there are a few choice areas that include fake hydrangeas (my favorite flower) so that when the real ones die off we are not left without that lovely accent. Years ago I would have just done without. But the quality of fake stems have improved dramatically and if used sparingly, I think they come in mighty handy!

  33. March 10, 2011 / 7:30 pm

I love flowers so much that i do a mix of both too because I want them in almost every room!

Oh gosh, you have so many real flowers throughout your house! I don't know how you keep up with all of that, but I wish I could!! I need to add more faux flowers around my place!

I've purchased a few hi-end faux floral arrangements over the years, and I always love them – every time I see them, they're just as beautiful as fresh. With that said, I like fresh florals as well.

Speaking of fresh flowers, Hubby wasn't impressed with the Valentine's Day rose selection this year, so he purchased a mixed bouquet – not something I would normally like, but I just threw them away today. They looked stunning for more than 3 weeks…. much longer than roses ever last for me. Guess what I'll be purchasing more often.?

  36. March 11, 2011 / 2:54 am

Your home is gorgeous! And I'm super jealous of your closet!!!

  37. March 11, 2011 / 1:34 pm

Goodness, you've got quite the flower shop going on! I love it – I need more flowers in my home. I also believe that faux can look just fine if you get high-quality ones. I have some faux flowers in our half-bath, and it's nice to have something perky and yellow in there for months!

I'm having a giveaway for a $50 shopping spree at Joss & Main. Stop by to enter!

Did you change the hood over your stove?

  39. March 23, 2011 / 2:11 am

I admire your dedication to keeping real flowers in the house! I love them, but I just don't spend the money on them consistently. I do have faux flowers, but I tend to forget that they're even there (except in my office where I gaze at them every time I'm in there.)
More importantly, I WANT your closet! <3 it!
