What kind of a fitness and fashion enthusiast would I be if I didn’t check out the athletic wear during Nordstrom’s Anniversary sale?! I’m a particular fan of Zella because of the tried and true quality, but also because it’s cute! #ofcourse #priorities! I’ve been slacking on my running and workouts lately, and I keep telling myself I’ll pick it back up when school starts, so y’all hold me to that PLEASE!! We should all commit together and do some kind of fitness challenge (not a bikini contest!) and encourage each other. I feel like I need the motivation lately!I’m always on the hunt for the perfect running shorts and I found a new pair I’m crazy for –View Post
I’m forever a fitness fanatic because I love feeling strong and energized. Exercise not only keeps me healthy, it lifts my spirits and helps me relax during busy, stressful days.
Being pregnant and losing the baby weight was actually so much better at 40 than it was at 34, if you can believe it! I will say now, I do feel more tired keeping up with two, but that might just come with the territory. It’s hard juggling all the roles we play, am I right? #morecoffeeplease
Health and fitness is something I’ve always been interested in, so in 2012, I started a separate blog, Honey We’re Healthy, and I shared recipes, workouts and my first fitness contest journey there. That content is still up if you want to take a look,View Post
How was your weekend? I know I’ve been talking a lot about sleep lately, but when your almost 5-month old baby starts sleeping through the night (she hasn’t even woken up to eat at 11pm or 3am for the past 3 nights) you definitely feel like shouting it from the rooftops! In my case, I feel like God saw I was getting near the end of my rope and threw me a bone because just when I really felt like I was starting to get ultra exhausted (and threatening my husband that HE was gonna have to start on night duty,View Post
Here we go with the 3rd fitness post for June! We started with a healthy weekly meal prep, followed up with a good full body weight workout you can do at home, and now it’s time to talk cardio and get our booties moving!View Post
How was your weekend?! We mostly took it easy at home and also tried out our Blue Apron meals that arrived. Did you see my hubby and I preparing the chicken wings on Saturday night on snapchat (@honeywerehome)? I’ll share those meals here hopefully later this week. Today, I’m back with another fitness post for ya! I will say that after a few trips to the pool recently, my motivation is renewed to get back in shape. 😉 Last week, I showed you how I prep our food for a week full of healthy meals and I loved hearing how that was helpful for you!View Post
Hello lovelies! Did you have a great weekend?! Ours involved the last T-ball game of the season, a new two-wheel bike for our son who’s learning to ride without training wheels, and me trying to take a nap every time Jordan did. After almost three months of middle of the night feedings, the lack of uninterrupted sleep is catching up to me big time. I feel like I’m going through the motions during the day, but my mind and body are exhausted. The good news is that yesterday, she woke up at 7am to eat, then fell back to sleep until 11:30 a.m.View Post
This Thursday marks just 6 short weeks since Jordan’s been born! In that time, we have fallen head over heels in love with her. Who am I kidding? I fell in love the instant I saw her for the first time! She’s been giving us big smiles lately and you would think that we’ve never seen a smile before the way we go ga-ga over them! It’s been challenging slowing down from my previous go-go-go lifestyle for the gentle pace of a new baby that needs constant attention, but I’m not complaining. I mean, just look at this bundle of sweetness that I get to cuddle with all day!View Post
As I write this post, I’m 36 weeks pregnant (yay! #homestretch!) with our second child and my 41st birthday is fast approaching! Even though I’m an older mama this time, I feel so much better than last time because I’ve kept up with my workouts and healthy eating (for the most part). Many of you have asked about my exercise routine during this pregnancy and today I’m happy to share what I’ve been doing and what’s worked for me to help keep me at a healthy weight gain (my doctor recommended 25-35 pounds). I’ve worked hard to stay healthy and fit during this pregnancy,View Post
Along with getting organized, getting healthy and fit probably tops most of our lists in terms of things we’d like to accomplish or make improvements to in the new year. This year, I competed in my second bikini contest and, although I also blog about home and fashion, my fitness posts were the most popular. That really surprised me- I didn’t realize how often those posts had been read until I looked back at the end of the year. Chronicling my fitness journey here helped keep me accountable and, hopefully, also showed you what kind of results are achievable in just 12 weeks with a specific meal and exercise plan.View Post
Last year, when I got in the best shape of my life and competed in my first NPC bikini contest, it took less than six months for me to get back out of shape! The contest was July 2014 and by Thanksgiving, I had gained about 10 pounds (a lot on such a short girl) and had lost a lot of my muscle tone. Right after the contest, I stopped working out with my trainer and then wasn’t going to the gym much. My eating was all over the place and I was indulging in too many sweet treats (my weakness!).View Post
Happy Wednesday y’all! Today is a super special day because my son turns 5 today! Wasn’t he just 2?!?! Is it just me or does 5 suddenly feel very big-boy? I’m a sappy mess, but flooded with love and pride for how special and wonderful our son is. When I asked him if he wanted to stay 4 so he could always be my little baby, he said no, he wants to turn 5, but “I’ll always be your little baby even when I get big.” Oh, yes, my son, truer words were never spoken! And I plan to stay healthy and fit so I can keep up with this boy for many,View Post
I used to be a purest when it came to workout clothes: they are for the gym or during workouts only. Kinda like some people have strong opinions about no tv in the bedroom. I’m okay with that actually, even though we can’t see the tv in our sitting room from our bed. My favorite reason for having a tv in that room is because I watch it while folding all. the. laundry. But, I digress.
Lots of my friends run around in yoga pants or workout clothes, but I just felt like I wanted to be in “real clothes”View Post
It’s no secret around here that I love to workout and stay in good shape. I’m recently back in the gym with my trainer and am doing a 40-day fat loss challenge at my gym that started last Thursday and ends on March 2. So far, so good. I plan to keep updating my progress on Honey We’re Healthy. I’d love to celebrate your successes over there too, so if you have a great before/after story you’d like to share, please send it my way (firstname.lastname@example.org).
I don’t have a ton of workout clothes,View Post
If you’ve been reading my blog or following me on Twitter, you know that over the last year I’ve struggled to lose the 50ish pounds I gained during my pregnancy. For a woman that’s just 5’1, I couldn’t wait to drop those extra pounds and it’s taken me nearly a year and a half to do it!
A gorgeous blogging buddy from Houston invited me to participate in a boot camp, Houston Area Adventure Boot Camp, the longest-running boot camp in the Houston area. Over the last seven years they have helped more then 5200 people achieve their fitness goals.View Post
I have struggled with writing this post- started writing it a million times in my head but couldn’t commit it to the blog. I think it’s because I haven’t reached my “goal” yet, but I decided instead that it might be worthwhile to talk about the process and celebrate my progress, even if I’m still not completely back to my pre-pregnancy body. And I’m not sure I ever will be since things like wider hips just might be here to stay. Really, I’m okay with that since I’m pretty small-framed, it’s nice to have some curves!
Let’s start at the beginning.
