Backyard Patio Refresh & The Best Place to Buy Succulents

Hi friends!  I hope you had a wonderful weekend!  I was a busy little bee doing lots of home cleaning, organizing and getting the backyard patio spruced up.

We love spending time out here, but it requires some cleaning and maintenance to keep it enjoyable.  I started adding a weekly wipe down of the patio furniture and my 11-year-old son helps with that.  We went a step further and power washed the furniture this weekend and that was so satisfying!

Last week, we popped into Walmart to get live succulents for the backyard.  I bought my previous succulents there and remembered that they were just $2 each for a mini succulent- that’s such a good price and they have a big selection.

I put together a larger succulent arrangement in this self-draining planter, but didn’t buy enough, so I added a few faux succulents in there too! 😉

While we were at the store, we found these reusable plastic dinner plates that are perfect for eating outside. They’re nice and sturdy, BPA free and dishwasher safe.

I tend to gravitate toward neutrals, but I love bright, fun colors for summer.

We love hanging out here together!  I swear Jordan is so much fun and her personality is so spunky!  I was a more reserved and shy child, definitely a ‘pleaser’.  She’s so not like that and is definitely her own person, which I appreciate.  She insisted on being in these photos!

And here’s what brought us to Walmart in the first place!  These mini succulents look so good!  I got taller ones for the top shelf for added height and shorter ones on the bottom two shelves.  I like the mix of different shapes and styles.

And my little garden helper is just too cute!  Our Summer break is short this year, and the kids go back to school in mid-August.  We’re definitely soaking up these last weeks of summer!

We don’t have any big plans, Jordan has one more week of swimming lessons, so I’m sure we’ll be hanging at the pool.  It’s been 100 degrees here lately!  We’ve also really loved playing Battleship, but so far, James has won every round!

One think I’d also love to do in the future is have a little garden, maybe just start with some herbs.  If any of you have suggestions for the best way to start, I’d love to hear!

  1. Hi, if you start simple as in container herbs it’s not overwhelming. You could use a window box and plant 3-4 herbs. The easiest would be: basil, rosemary, oregano or many others. Dill is the only one that people often have trouble. You could do mint but it overtakes everything. Or in a regular pot put three stakes up forming a diamond sort of topiary and grow cherry tomatoes. If you look for a strawberry pot that’s a fun early one to see popping through the wholes. Just some idea’s. Good luck. Your backyard is lovely.
