Painted Closet Island

Last weekend, when I painted our half-bath door, I also painted the island in my closet.  It needed touching up from all the scuff marks.  I originally planned to paint it grey, and at the last minute chose a glossy light pink.  I figured why not- and thought it would look good with the Lucia chandelier.  It’s very subtle, but I’m not sure I’m sold on it.

Right before moving in, the closet looked like the picture below.  It’s all painted Sherwin Williams Divine White (flat).

Here’s how the island looks in light pink and with the runner removed.

Over the last few weeks, I’ve been on a deep-cleaning closet organization binge.  I have tried on almost everything I own (including shoes), and am being ruthless when it comes to editing out what doesn’t fit, I haven’t worn in years, or I just don’t like.  I’ve given bundles of clothing, shoes, jewelry, and makeup to family and friends.  It’s feeling very refreshing to simplify!

I also figured out a new way to organize my belts and jewelry too that I plan to show you soon.  I’ll show you the entire closet as soon as I’m finished.

Are you liking the pink??  I love the glossiness, but not sure about the color- the first picture is the truest representation of the shade.  It’s Sherwin Williams Venus Pink, acrylic, high gloss.

I am totally lusting over your closet. Seriously gorgeous!! Love it all!

OMG – first of all your closet is AMAZING! Definitely my dream closet someday. Maybe it's just my computer, but I can't tell that the island is pink? From what I can see it looks amazing!

To be honest, through the computer, the island just comes off as looking like a glossy white. Is it a really like pink? I think the gray would look sleek, or may something really bold like teal!

It looks beautiful…but then, I'm not sure there is anything you could do to that stellar closet to make it un-beautiful 🙂

Must be my computer screen, but it looks white to me. If you like pink…go bold! I say HOT PINK! 🙂 Very envious of the fact that you can have an island in your closet! I do too…but it's an island of dirty clothes 🙂 ~Kim

I think it looks sort of lilac, but I like it! Have you thought about a tray or other contrasting "topper" to accent?

  7. November 12, 2012 / 1:41 pm

On my monitor, the island looks the same as the before picture. Maybe it is too subtle?

    Love your closet!!!

Very chic!! I'm having a hard time seeing the pink too, but I can definitely see the glossy on the top. Great idea to help the piece "pop"!

I just painted my daughters room this same color and used a dark charcoal grey on one wall. I love the gloss on your island, but it is hard to tell how pink it is. If it is like my daughters room it feels much more pink in person.

Honestly, I can't even tell that there is a difference. I like your idea though!

Very pretty Megan! I think your closet was one of the first rooms in your home that somehow brought me to your blog – and I never tire of seeing it 🙂 It's so gorgeous!

DANG IT! Why don't we live closer and I could be on the receiving end of that purge!!?? You're making me want to completely gut my closet. I feel an episode coming on….

Love. Your. Closet. It's so hard to tell what soft colors look like on a computer screen sometimes. It looks fairly white to me, but I know it probably looks more pink in person. I like Layne's tip. 🙂

I want to just hang out in your closet. Dreamy. I have been ruthless lately as well. Feels good. I love the glossy. Not sure the pink is coming through, but I am sure it's soft and beautiful in person.

  19. November 12, 2012 / 10:27 pm

I am seeing the same thing. In one picture it looks a tad pink, but in most it looks glossy white!!

  20. November 12, 2012 / 10:41 pm

It really doesn't look pink at all …. Maybe it's the lighting but it still looks white to me!! If your looking for a subtle pink that makes a statement I adore BM 1366 Rosemist it is a great color… Or maybe you can do a gray…. BM Ablone 2108-60 is a great gray with a hint of purple. Good Luck!!

Y'all are right- the paint is barley pink and when I painted the first coat, I couldn't see any pink at all. After three coats, in person, it's a super light pink. Thank you for your paint color suggestions! I appreciate it!

Your closet is fabulous! I can't see the pink either….I agree with BaileyWife, hot pink would really make a statement!

  23. November 13, 2012 / 1:53 am

I love your closet! I also love the feeling of cleaning, it is truly refreshing.

  24. November 13, 2012 / 2:13 am

Maybe it's just the translation over computer screens, but it still looks white to me… I'm sure there's a hint of pink to it in person but I can't see it so I'm not much help, sorry! Way to go on the purge though, I LOVE that feeling!

Love your closet, and your whole house for that matter. I have to agree with Layne though. It looks lilac to me also. I think I was expecting to see more of a ballet slipper pink. Either way your closet is lovely. Thanks for sharing!

honestly I say go big or go home! Its too light- go brighter girl you can do it!!! I just pulled my SW color swatches- what about Oleaner SW 6603 its got more of a coral undertone to it but still very pink. anyway-just a thought. Either way your closet is and will always be AH-MAZING!!

  27. November 13, 2012 / 3:58 am

Looks so pretty to me. I love pink, but it must be very pale, because it looks white to me. What about a fun bright pink or a bluish gray would be cool too.

  28. November 13, 2012 / 4:05 am

Honestly, I just can't tell it is pink at all! Still looks white to me. I totally love your closet though! Total closet envy. I jsut pinned it!

First of all I just love your closet! That was the thing that bought me to your wonderful blog a year or two ago. The island looks white from your pictures, it must the computer.

  31. November 15, 2012 / 7:50 pm

Honestly, I think if the pink is subtle as it looks in the picture (or even half as subtle) I can see why you think it doesn't work. To me if you already have such subtle walls it is just going to blend in vs. make a statement and possibly even clash a bit with the existing colors.

  32. November 25, 2012 / 8:02 pm

What a great closet! I'm enlisting the help of my sister to assist me with my own closet binge- I just can't be ruthless enough!
