Paint Colors in My Home

When we chose the paint colors for our home, I wanted to keep the main areas very neutral and light so that the home felt bright and airy.  We came from a home with darkly painted walls and not much natural light, so I was really craving a light and airy place.  I used mostly the same color throughout the house because we have a semi-open floor plan and I wanted a cohesive look.  Also, I just wanted to live with one color and see how it felt, then, I reasoned, I could change it later if I decided to go in another direction or wanted something darker.
All of the paint in our house is by Sherwin Williams.
First floor including the formal dining room, living room, breakfast area, kitchen, staircase, upstairs hallway, and guest room:  Agreeable Gray.  I wanted a color that was slightly more grey than beige and really like our choice.  The blue in the media shelf is Jamestown Blue, but it is more mild than it appears in the photo below.
Of course, the paint color changes depending on the time of day and whether we have the lights on.  The living room picture was taken around 10:00 a.m.

Jimmy’s office- Accessible Beige.   It’s a little more beige and what our builder originally recommended for the entire house.  Jimmy liked it for his office with the wood paneling and ceiling beams.  Sadly, this is the only picture I have of the office.  In it’s current state, it is not fit for photographs- (hint, hint Jimmy;)

Master bedroom, sitting room, and bathroom- A New Gray.  To me, this is a perfect light gray that doesn’t read blue, purple, or brown.

Nursery- Blissful Blue.  This is a nice light blue that isn’t too pale or too sweet.

Office- Friendly Yellow.  I’ve always been drawn to yellow, probably because I associate it with fun.  But choosing a yellow paint was tricky.  I think we went through about 4 samples before choosing this one, which was a more creamy yellow.

I love all the colors you choose for your house. It flows so beautifully. You never know until you live with the color, and evidently you did an awesome job if you still love them! Where are all James toys! Your pictures are so picture perfect.

I love all the colors you chose. With the exception of our youngest daughter's room and bathroom, all of our rooms are varying shades of the same color. Makes things flow and makes decorating easy!

Ha Stephanie, I cleaned up James' toys for the photos, but trust me, they are normally out and about in the living room and his bedroom and of course the giant exersaucer gets a lot of use too!

p.s. I just updated this post to include a picture of the colors I found when I searched them on the web.

Love the colors in your house. We too have grey in the common areas. Its adds a hint of color without being plain jane white.

Thanks for posting your colors! I am whipping out my notebook right now to jot these down. When you look at so many different paint colors every day, some good ones fall through the cracks! I hadn't seen any of these yet!

Oh I loooove the gray color in your bedroom! I agree- it can be hard to find the "right" gray. The downstairs gray is so pretty, too! Thanks for sharing!

Of course you have all SW colors!! My house is painted in all SW…the old Martha Stewart for SW line. Each of my rooms is it's own beast, I wish it were more cohesive like yours. And you chose such perfect grays, I've jotted them down for sure!

    LOVED meeting you!!

Lovely colours. The first gray really does look different in the two photos taken at different times of the day. I love grays and blues as well.

I LOVE your nursery! Love, love, love! It has inspired me while trying to decorate for my first baby, a boy. I saw the blue color you used on your paint link and was curious as to what the bottom whitish color is on the nursery wall. It doesn't look bright white. Can you let me know? Thanks!

What color did you use for your trim and ceilings?

  19. May 9, 2012 / 5:18 am

I'm pretty sure we have flat paint throughout our home. The trim, ceilings, and cabinets are SW Divine White.

Is agreeable gray completely gray or is it more of a greige? Thank you!

I love personally love the blissful blue paint. It’s very gentle to the eyes and it’s just the shade for a child’s room. Babies are usually attracted to light colors. 🙂
