Hello, September! | Intentions for the Month
Hi friend! I’m so excited, maybe overly so, for September! September signals the beginning of the Autumn season, and it’s my favorite time of year.
Today, I’m sharing all the things I’m looking forward to this month. I have lots of ideas, but also don’t want to stress myself out with too much on the list. There’s just so many things I’d love to do this month to savor the beginning of Fall.
And y’all know I’ve already decorated my home for Fall!
Hello, September! | Intentions for the Month

Football Games & Photography
Big on the agenda this month are football games. My son is playing his first season of high school football and he and the entire team have been practicing so hard. It’s a big job getting him to 6 a.m. practices, and I know he wants to play well.
I’ve volunteered to take the game photos and it’s so fun. With that role, I get to be on the sidelines and I’m thrilled about that. I hope I capture all the players because I know how meaningful the photos are to them and their families.
My photography skills on my digital camera are a little rusty, but it’s kinda like riding a bike. I’m hoping to get better and have fun playing with new angles, different settings and editing the pics.
My little nephew (age 8) is also playing football for the first time. Our family will be going to watch him play on September 28 (my dad’s birthday), so that will be a special family day. I plan to take photos then too.
Trip to Round Top
Elliott and I are heading to Round Top, Texas this weekend and we’ve been so looking forward to it. It’s a charming town and only about a 1 1/2 hour drive from Houston.
Round Top is famous for its antiques, arts, and scenic countryside, not to mention some very good restaurants. It will be wonderful to get away just the two of us.
We’re staying in one of the super cute little cottages at The Vintage Round Top, and I’ll be sure to share all the details when I get back.
We may also share some while we’re there – so follow me on Instagram Stories if you want to see my cutie!
Mom’s Fiesta Birthday
My mom’s birthday is in September and I’m planning a family party for her at the house.

Her favorite food is Mexican, so it will be a fiesta with fajitas and vibrant colored decor.
Since it’s still warm here in September, we can enjoy the day outside and the kids can swim.

Autumn Equinox
The Autumn Equinox is Sunday, September 22 and I’d love to host a small party for some of my friends.
I’m thinking something easy with a menu that highlights seasonal ingredients. It would be awesome to catch up with my mom friends and hear how everyone’s start to high school is going.

Spend Time Outside
Now that the weather has cooled off some, I’m back to doing my morning time outside. It’s definitely grounding to start your day outside in nature, even if it’s just a few minutes.
I’d also like to read more outside. Here are some of my favorite books & 15 Life Changing Books.
It would also be great to eat our meals outdoors more. I have an old metal 4-person outdoor dining table that’s starting to rust and I’d love to invest in a 6-seater table.
It’s not quite the right time for that, so in the meantime, I ordered this fitted vinyl tablecloth to just put over the table. That should hold us over for awhile!
Visit Parks & Farmer’s Market
I was researching parks and farmer’s markets in Houston and there are so many! We need to take advantage of that!
Fall Garden
My garden didn’t fare too well in the Summer. Only my jalapenos and basil really took off. I want to research what I can plant for Fall, including some flowers. I’d love to hear if you have tips!
Declutter
With the holidays on the horizon, I want to go through every room in my house and see what I can let go of. I did a huge declutter at the beginning of the year and since then, have continued to declutter here and there as I’ve found things we don’t need, love or use.
It feels so good to have a clutter free home! Here’s some help with where to start with decluttering.
Organize Closet
In the Summer, I moved all of my Fall and Winter clothing to the closet in the guest room and now it’s time to move it back into my main closet. I did really like having so much breathing room in my closet, so I’ll be taking a hard look at everything to see what I can donate.
I’m so looking forward to more of this cooler weather and getting to wear some of those things. We’ve been in the high 70’s/high 80’s lately and that’s such a welcome change!
Install Generator
This summer, we had two major storms (a derecho and a hurricane) that knocked out power to most of our community for many days. After thoughtful consideration, I decided to purchase a whole home generator.
Elliott helped me research and I bought the generator on Amazon and hired a contractor to install it. We are still in the installing phase, but it’s almost complete!
It’s one of those big investments that I hope we don’t need but I’m sure I will be glad that I have if I do. I had to tear up some of my landscaping – really just the decorative rocks, for the install, so I’m looking forward to putting things back together. Right now, it’s a muddy mess!
Change Hair & Nails
Yep, we’re going darker this month! I have a hair appointment with Shelby on Thursday and I’m going to share this image with her. I’m also thinking I’d like to have my hair about collarbone length. Still on the shorter side, but a little longer for Fall and Winter.

I’ll also bring out the You Don’t Know Jacques nail color. Such a classic for Fall!
Phone Free Evenings
There’s so much life to be lived and I don’t want to spend it scrolling on my phone. I don’t want to be so tired in the evenings that I don’t have energy to play with my daughter.
She always asks to play basketball or throw the football and I want to do those things with her. I love that she wants to be active and outside playing, not just sitting watching a screen. I want to encourage that and it’s great quality time together.
I was in a great groove over the summer with not being on my phone as much but old habits die hard.
Lately, I’ve found myself on my phone more and realized that I need to be dedicated and intentional about putting it away, lest I waste my days and don’t do these things that are more important to me!
I’d love to hear about your intentions for the month. It’s great to set aside some time to think about how you want to spend your time or life will just go in it’s own direction, right?!
Loves Giveaway
One more thing! I’ve decided to bring back my Loves Giveaway starting this month through the end of the year!
If you don’t recall, my Loves Giveaway is where I share things I’m loving that month and give them away to one of my subscribers!
It’s just a way of saying thank you for being here and subscribing. I appreciate you so much!
If you’re not subscribed, you can sign up here, and I will pick a winner at random and announce at the end of the month.
*If you win, I always give you the option of all of the items OR the cash value! Most people choose the cash value and I send them money via Venmo!
I was SO sad to see summer go, but embracing September has my chin up!
Have a fantastic day friend!
I love the darker hairstyle you are planning on. That will look great on you. Love your inspiration posts, and love to hear how you have goals and are trying to make your life better and more fulfilling.
I love these posts in addition to your beauty, style, and home decor ones. They are inspirational. Thanks for the unique, organized, and intentional content in an otherwise hectic world ! 🙂
Can’t wait to see the new hairstyle! The other day at Target, I saw these little lockbox things for phones, ostensibly for teachers to use – but am considering getting one for myself!
Would love to know your generator installation contractor once you’re done (if you recommend). We’re also in Houston and considering installing one as well.
I feel ‘seen’ about the phone. Yes, that is a good reminder. The tablescapes in this post caught my attention. I wonder if you could explain budgeting or have any how-to-tips? I know you talk about ‘budget’ purchases or talk about discounts and saving money, but I mean the actual mechanics/nuts and bolts. I’m trying to get more intentional about simplifying my life too and budgeting systems is at the top of my list. I find keeping a simple budget very confusing. I’ve tried to keep complicated spreadsheets in the past, but I end up dropping off with tracking the day-to-day-things. I feel like (with inflation) this would be really helpful for a lot of us. Thank you.
Love the hair and nail color! Can’t wait to hear the generator works for you! Are you planning to test it out? I’m curious how much gas it takes to run it and if you keep it filled with gas (I’m only an hour from the coast, we get hurricanes pretty frequently and gas shortages are always a problem). Totally agree on cutting back phone time, I’ve been working on that as well. I tried the limits on my iPhone but I kept having to override them to do something that was truly necessary. I’m trying to just train myself to put it down a few hours before bed.
Hi Megan! I got a ‘whole home’ generator that you don’t have to fill with gas – it goes off the electricity and natural gas line in my home.
That flora mug is amazing and all your ideas are really good ideas!!!
Love this post! What a great reminder that every month is a fresh start and a new time to make seasonal goals.
Loving these intention posts! Thank you for sharing and for inspiring. Decluttering is such a work in progress. Can’t wait to see the new hair color. I love the inspiration picture!!
