Vanity Organization

Good morning friends!  I hope your week is off to a great start!  It’s been raining and thunder storming like crazy here.  I thought we were gonna lose power yesterday, but thankfully, we didn’t.  The good thing is, my yard could really use the water, so that’s a positive!

Yesterday, I shared the Amazon Big Style Sale with you and I’m updating my post with the latest deals, so be sure to check back HERE so you don’t miss anything!  It’s the first sale like this Amazon has ever done that focuses exclusively on fashion, shoes, accessories and activewear.  You can go straight to thefashion deals HERE.

Here in Houston, we’re still not out of the woods with Covid and we’re wearing masks and staying home most of the time.  I’ve done a ton of organizing and decluttering – you saw my kitchen organization, and now I’ve moved onto my makeup and vanity organization.  I could still probably whittle things down even more, especially my makeup brushes, but I wanted to share how things look with you now.

Most of my organization items are from Amazon and I rounded up some pretty storage containers for you below.  The first step is to toss and get rid of things that are old, expired, you never wear, aren’t flattering, or broken.  Then, when you are left with those things you use and love, you can figure out the best way to organize all of it.

Four Drawers • This acrylic cosmetic storage case comes in a bronze glow color and organizes all your makeup and cosmetics into four little drawers.   The container measures approximately 9.25”L x 5.37”W x 7.87”H (each drawer approx. 1.62” deep). It also includes a removable black mesh padding that keeps makeup items protected and in place.

Nail Polish Holder • I need to buy this!  If you do your own nails at home and have several colors on hand, this nail polish holder will keep everything tidy and easy to see.  This 4 tier storage measures 12-inches x 6-inches,  just right for bathrooms on a vanity or in a drawer.

Clear Cubes • These clear acrylic apothecary jars combine beauty with organization. Each apothecary jar has a removable acrylic lid and a wide mouth to make accessing bathroom necessities and accessories super easy.

Lipstick Holder • This lipstick organizer holds 40 lipsticks/glosses and keeps them all upright in one place.

Rose Gold Containers • Not only are these containers functional, they’re also beautiful!  They come in 60, 30-ounce, and 15-ounce sizes and are just right for cotton balls and q-tips.

Multi Purpose Holder • This multi purpose storage unit is perfect for organizing all your makeup and brushes in just one container. Plus, I love the gold trim!

Rotating Storage • The lazy suzan of makeup organization!  This piece rotates 360 degrees, making it easy access to all of your makeup products. You can adjust the height of laminates as you like and its convenient to clean with removable design and washable material.

Drawer Organizer • Nearly all of my drawers have drawer organizers and they are so useful!  This one has 10-pieces and includes a new slim size, 9-inch by 2-inch organizers for makeup brushes and pencils.

Compact Organizer • How perfect is this storage for your compacts?  I just bought it for my compacts, blushes and a couple of eyeshadow palettes.

Clear Canisters •  These canisters come in 20 oz and 100 oz.  You can store all your bathroom odds and ends like cotton balls, cotton rounds, bath salts, makeup sponges, rubber bands, needles, etc.

Makeup Organizer • Divided compartments are perfect for holding lipstick and makeup brushes and the open compartments are great for storing bottles and eyeshadow palettes.  This organizer measures 12 x 8 inches.

Heat Safe Storage • If your hairdryer and curling iron have no place to go, this heat safe storage solution is genius!  It stands on your counter and has two compartments to keep your tools neat and separated.  The steel wire lets you store tools even while they’re still hot. It has almost 1,000 positive reviews on Amazon and comes in more colors.

MY MAKEUP ORGANIZATION

While I do my hair in my bathroom, I put my makeup on in my closet.  I’m lucky that my closet has plenty of space, a big mirror and natural light.  There’s a built in dresser in my closet and I keep my makeup on the top shelf and in that first drawer for easy access.  I love having everything all handy and organized so I can quickly find what I need.

Vanity Organization

My eyeliner pencils, brushes and lipsticks are kept in clear acrylic organizers that keep everything pretty and contained.  I like how the lipstick holder is tiered so I can see all of them at a glance.

Here are the brushes that I could probably pair down.  I do use many of them, but not all the time. I clean my brushes with this cleaner and mat, but I admit, not often enough! How often do you clean your makeup brushes?

I keep several lipsticks in my purse, and the rest here in this organizer.  The lip pencils and lip brush go in the upper right side and the lipsticks and glosses in the rest. If I’m not sure what color the lipstick is, I’ll usually store it upside down so I can read the cap.  But, I will say that print seems to be getting smaller and smaller! #oldeyes!

Lipstick Organizer

One new addition to my makeup storage is this compact holder.  It fits my compacts, a couple of blushes and my Charlotte Tilbury Eyeshadow palettes.  I’m still using the Milani blush from my drugstore makeup tutorial.

In my makeup drawer, I use drawer dividers to keep my makeup and tools all neat and tidy.  You can rearrange the dividers to suit your needs.

How do you organize your makeup?  I’ve never been one to keep everything in a makeup bag, but I have several friends who do that.  I would just hate digging through everything to find what I’m looking for.  Even when I go to a hotel, I like to spread everything out on a washcloth so I can see it.  I’ll put my brushes in a cup to keep them upright.

Also, I’m curious how much makeup do you have?  As you can see, I have a fair amount, including several eye shadow pallets, but it doesn’t seem like all that much to me.  What do you think??

Have a fantastic day friends!

  1. Yes, I agree – it’s so much nicer to be able to see everything you have at a glance. Acrylic storage is just great for this and it means that you’re likely to actually use things rather than them being hidden in the corner of a bag. It doesn’t look to me as though you’ve got a completely unreasonable amount, compared with some people who post their drawers and drawers full anyway ?! It’s also worth remembering that all cosmetics, and particularly anything ‘wet’ such as mascaras and foundations, bb creams etc, have a relatively short shelf-life once opened so keeping huge numbers of similar items is going to be either wasteful or harmful.

I’m surprised that you choose to do your make-up in a room with carpet rather than tile – if there’s room to store it all in a bathroom (and you’re able to keep it cool and dry) it definitely seems to be a safer option spill-wise!

  2. Great post with great ideas ! I have a vanity to sit at between our sinks and love it. I have all my makeup in a drawer underneath and keep my brushes out in a silver cup. The drawer is very narrow so I have to be careful that everything fits. Thanks for the great ideas!

  3. If there was ever a month to win your faves, this would be it! I’ve followed your blog for years and this is one of my favorite posts!! I already have a few of these items in my cart ❤️

  4. LOVE this post! And it could not be more perfect timing, as we just moved and I’m about to organize/unpack the master bath. I’m wondering where you found the acrylic make-up drawer organizers with the gold trim in the last two pics? Love them! Thank you!!!
