Wardrobe Wednesday | Cozy Fur Vests & Cardigans

I’m getting a late start today after being up past my bedtime at my husband’s work holiday party last night. Date nights have been few and far between lately and it was good to get out and mingle and enjoy our friends together.  Too bad I couldn’t enjoy a glass of wine!  I can count on you to have one for me soon, right?! I’ll just live vicariously through you for a few more months!
I wore the green dress I showed you earlier this month and got a lot of compliments on it (it’s 40% off – glad I was able to get a price adjustment!)  I was surprised it still fit (4P) and was actually very comfortable.  And our son LOVES getting to stay home with Grandma, so it’s a win-win.  Except I’m dragging today!  I’ll be heading to an OB appointment later and I can’t wait to check in.  I want to keep updating my doctor about my exercise routine and find out if there’s anything I need to be cautious about now that I’m in my 3rd trimester! #3monthstogo! Did you see that I put the blingy finishing touches on the nursery yesterday? So, so happy to have that room completed so early.
For this Wardrobe Wednesday, I’m sharing some of my everyday style that has kept me feeling fashionable while 28 weeks pregnant.  That is, when I’m not home in my cozy soft pants!  Which is actually pretty often, with no makeup and hair in a topknot.  Or not really a topknot, since my hair is still too short for that, but I can fit it all in a high ponytail now! But, it does feel good to put some effort into your appearance, do your hair, put on makeup and pull together an outfit that is comfy and chic.  It just makes you feel more confident when you’re out in the world, right? Remember my way-back Schlumpadinka post from 2010?  I got so much from reading your comments on that one.
Winter/Fall Fashion Faux Fur Vest
faux fur vest | striped top | black maternity leggings (non-maternity– 448 great reviews) | similar black boots – on sale, 40% off | necklace | watch

Completing your outfit with a faux fur vest instantly takes it to another lever.  This Faux fur vest I’m wearing (size 2) has gone in and out of stock lately (as I write this, it’s available in size 10 & 12), but if that’s not your size, I linked other similar faux fur vests below.
I loved this striped top (with a boatneck) so much that I bought it in 3 colors.   It’s from GAP, and you get 40% off with code GIFTS today, or cardmembers get 50% off with code DEC50.  I had to buy Medium to cover the bump.

The vest looks good with everything from leggings, jeans, pants, dresses, skirts, etc.  And almost any top would work underneath- stripes, solids, patterns, button-down, turtleneck, tee-shirts.

I’m not sure if it’s only because I’m pregnant, but am always reaching for a tank top and cardigan these days.  I have a few on heavy rotation, but this chunky knit cardigan is my current fave.  It’s chunky sweater-weather perfection! If you see me out in it several days in a row, don’t judge!   I like a tank underneath, because it’s good for fluctuating body temps!  Hot one minute, cold the next.

And I had to laugh when I saw these pics below!  My Mom and I shot them at the waterfall by The Galleria in Houston on our way to Chipotle for lunch and we couldn’t stop laughing.  I swear, it’s so good to see her laughing, genuine big belly laughs.  We could use some good laughs in the midst of missing our Dad so much over this first Christmas without him.  Overall, I’d say we’re doing very well, it’s just one of those hard things in life that so many of us have to deal with.  My heart and big hugs go out to all of you who also don’t get to spend the holidays with everyone you love. We know how that feels.
I want to close this post on a cheerful note, so, hopefully, those pics above of a big, pregnant lady trying to look cute while getting doused with wind and water will make you smile too!  Have a great day friends! 🙂

  1. Thank you for the flash back post – I have been in that mode since I found out I was pregnant again after only a 4 month break! You have inspired me lately to get my butt in gear to dress cuter and actually look decent despite being 26 weeks pregnant! I feel so much better in a pair of skinny maternity jeans and a cute sweater than I do in capris and a top knot! Thanks!

    1. Holy cow! You only got a 4 month break?! We are due just two weeks apart! I agree with feeling cuter when I put in the effort. It's not everyday, but I try!

  2. How exactly did you get from schlumpadinka to as perfect looking as you are now? I have haven't been reading the blog long. I'm not a mom but I'm always looking to improve my look.

    1. You are too kind Autumn. Honestly, I think one thing that really helped me was cutting my hair shorter. With it being easier (and quicker) to fix, I'm more likely to do it. And then, I rationalize it only takes a few minutes to put on makeup and that improves my appearance by about 100%. Don't get me wrong, I'm still a "scklumpadinka" on lots of days, but I try not to make it my norm. I always feel better when my hubby gets home from work and I look like a real person! 😉

  3. Loved reading your 2010 post! As a SAHM I get dressed daily and feel so much better doing so even though most days I don't leave the house. You have me craving a faux fur vest now! I loooove that chunky cardigan. I have a similar one that I find myself wearing all the time. In fact this morning I had to tell myself no it it. LOL you look great and I love seeing how you cintinue to wear non maternity clothes. That is one thing I dislike about pregnancy is feeling like I have to give up my normal style. If there are any more babes in my future I'm going to try sizing up. Any tips for getting a tummy back in shape after pregnancy? I have a 6 month old and lost all the weight and then some but the tummy is jello!

    1. That one was a flashback- can't believe it's been 5 years!! I loved hearing from other SAHM and was realized we're all in the same boat. But, I've also come to learn that self-care is so important. That's why I make the time to workout. I feel so much better and then I'm better to everyone around me. I'm not sure what happened in the last 6 years, but I feel like maternity fashion is so much better now. My first pregnancy wardrobe was horrendous. I'm embarrassed when I look back! And getting the tummy back in shape is just a slow process, one day at a time with eating and exercise. Even when I competed, I still had some loose skin that was there, but it was so much improved. Congrats on your six month old! I remember those little chunky baby days! Can't wait to experience that again!
