Ordering Healthier at Starbuck’s

I’m right there with many of you who get excited when Starbuck’s releases their Fall beverages each year.  They really get me giddy at Christmas with their bright red cups, but right now, it’s the Salted Caramel Mocha that I’m craving.
Starbuck’s is one of many food retailers that provide their nutrition information online if you dare to check.  You may not want to see the calorie and fat content of the SCM- it’s pretty bad!  If you order a grande “medium” it’s 420 calories and 16 grams of fat, plus 290 grams of sodium, and 56 grams of sugar.  Ouch!
If you want to lighten it up, get the tall (4oz less than the grande) with nonfat milk and no whip cream.  I promise, it’s still delish.  That will save you 200 calories, 14 fat grams, 90 grams of sodium, and 16 grams of sugar.   That adds up!  It’s still not something I’d drink everyday, but will enjoy maybe once a week as a treat.
You can go HERE to see the nutritional information on your Starbuck’s drink and then play with the size, choose nonfat milk and no whip to see the difference.  You can also order drinks “skinny” (sugar free syrup).  Are you into Starbuck’s?  What’s your favorite drink? How often do you order it?

I’ll be back tomorrow with a recap of how I did on Week 5 of the Live Fit program.  I’m happy to report that I’m already seeing results!  I’m ready to kick butt on Week 6 now! 🙂

Great tips I try to always get nonfat milk and I frequent;y ask for my drinks unsweetend without the syrup, you can say "no classic" that cuts some calories too. I love the green tea latte with no classic and nonfat.

That's very handy, thanks! Not sure if we've got SCM in the UK though, but I would love to try it – the skinnier version, of course! 🙂

I didn't know you could play online with the nutritional info…I also request less pumps to reduce the calories. Thanks for sharing!

My favorite drink is a skinny vanilla soy latte. I order it way too often but I make up for it by eating healthy all day and working out.

I'm not a coffee drinker myself so I usually opt for an iced green tea, unsweetened. If I am hanging around Sbux (and therefore can take advantage of free refills with gold card status) I'll get ice. Otherwise, no ice. I know it sounds counter productive, but I found that they add SOO much ice to the cup that you're really not getting that much beverage. I've tried asking for "light ice" or "half ice" but this usually doesn't do anything.

Come autumn, however, I'm all about their hot caramel apple spice. Delish!

Just read your entire new blog last night 🙂 (I have a knee injury and am just on the sofa for a while 🙂 Anyway – LOVE it!

As for Starbucks, I order tall (or sometimes even a short if it's just the taste I'm after) nonfat, and I always ask for half the syrup. All of the syrups are just too sweet for me.

I also wanted to show you this really yummy sauce recipe for all of your rice/chicken bowls. It's so good and really adds a lot of flavor.

Thanks for taking the time to write yet another blog!

Oh the SCM is my fav too! Really enjoying your new blog and trying to get inspired to whip myself into a new person. I'm so tired of being a tired mom to three littles and I KNOW if I was making better choices that could change. Thanks for all of the info and inspiration from Maggie!

Best post ever! This is exactly what I get at SB and glad to know it's much healthier this way! It still tastes SOOO good! Are there any drinks there that are on the healthier side that taste yummy?

i'm def a Starbucks girl! 🙂 I'm still mad at my husband for getting me hooked on coffee in college. 🙂
Normally I get a tall or grande vanilla latte with 2 pumps vanilla (instead of 3) and I try to limit it to 1-2 a week but since they came out with the pumpkin spice I've been going a little crazy. I've become way to dependent on coffee in general and so I am happy to report that I'm on day 2 of no coffee! That's huge for me!

I've been a reader of your other blog for a long time now and I love this new healthy blog! I just started the 24 day Advocare challenge yesterday and reading about you and your friend is really encouraging. I worked out with a trainer for a few months last year, dropped 20 lbs, and was LOVING the way my body was reacting to weighs and of course, I've now gained it mostly back. I'm so mad at myself but I'm working hard now to get that back. Thanks for all of the info!

I order my grande SCM w nonfat milk, no whip but add foam and sugar free mocha syrup. Doesn't have that aspartame taste to me that their other skinny drinks sometimes do…
