O Christmas Tree

One of the things I look so forward to each holiday season is putting up the Christmas tree! Our tradition is to put up the tree and decorate it the day after Thanksgiving.  (Isn’t it fun to make your own holiday traditions?)  The tree is a 9-foot faux variety that we got at Hobby Lobby half-off three years ago.  What seemed like a ginormous tree in our little townhouse, seems quite at home in the new house.  It’s like the curve of the staircase was made just for her! Christmas Tree 004 You’ll notice that the very bottom has no ornaments (seems that babies are attracted to shiny things they aren’t supposed to touch!).  And also that some of the lights are out (middle left and bottom).  We could probably remedy that, but just haven’t gotten around to it.  Surprisingly, it’s not really bothering me that much this year. There are a couple of ornaments I’m particularly fond of.  Most of the ornaments are from Wal-Mart, Hobby Lobby or Target, but I found the blue glittery striped one (bottom left) at Crate & Barrel and the long silver (top right) one at Z Gallerie.   image We bought baby j’s Christmas presents and they are already wrapped and under the tree.  He’s getting two gifts (a walker and tool bench) from Santa this year and will probably be more enchanted with the box and gift wrap!  image And you can see that I changed the lime on the stairs for red and white because the green was clashing with the tree! ********** I’m sharing this post with Sarah, Thrifty Decor Chick. image ********** Also, you can check out my guest post at Honey and the Moon where I’m showing how I turned THIS                                 into THIS image image

Wow! It's such a perfect fit in your new place. You have to love Hobby Lobby. 😉

I can't wait to have a tree that tall in my home. I grew up in a house with extremely tall ceilings and a big staircase similar to yours, so I've always loved big, tall trees.

Love the red, white, & blue x

It looks glamorous and homey at the same time! Perfect. What? Nine month old babies like shiny ornaments? Reid is currently torn between the Christmas decor and dog's water bowl. 🙂

This is when I wish "we" had a faux tree! We will be picking ours out this weekend. We always have a real tree in the family room, but can't get it too soon as it dries out so fast!! Your tree is gorgeous. And, I am envious you've gotten that much shopping done and wrapped your presents!!

  9. December 7, 2010 / 2:28 pm

e- the red cardinal is from Hobby Lobby- not technically an ornament, but I thought they'd be cute on the tree!

I'm looking forward to shopping the after-Christmas sales for new ornaments for next year!

I so wish our ceilings were taller so we could have a massive tree, but a smaller one will have to do 🙂 We are a little late buying ours, but my hubs was working a deal with a place to get a nice faux one at a discount, always a wheeling and dealing 🙂

I love the blue ornaments and see why baby J has a hard time keeping his cute little fingers off of them haha.

If I had to get a faux tree, I would definitely go where you went. It looks great. And you are right, that stair case was basically made to hug that tree!!

Megan, your tree is perfect there by the stairs, and it's gorgeous! You're ahead of the game having so many gifts wrapped, they look beautiful. Nothing like after Christmas shopping for holiday things…I got my tree topper from PB last year for a great price, now it's full price again.

Stunning! Gorgeous! Beautiful! Your tree is in the perfect spot by your lovely staircase and your colors are fun together. You really did a wonderful job. Even your packages match. I love it! I also enjoyed your guest post at Honey and the Moon. You've inspired me to dress up a book case that we have. The fabric you chose is lovely.

Megan – it looks so great. I love making my own traditions too – every year i think i should have a colour co-ordinated tree but then every year when i get the baubles out i get all sentimental about using them!
    Lovely post as ever!

Megan, it's sooo pretty! I'm not usually a big fan of blue but that's changed this year. I saw some GORGEOUS blue ornaments at Walmart & your blue looks AMAZING!! It really pops! You're right that tree looks like it was made for that spot.

I love that your tree is half-naked as well!

Wait til next year when he lobs your ornaments across the room…

Hence, why mine are suspended from the chandelier and ceiling this year.

It's beautiful, Megan! I love the red, white and blue theme going in your home. The bright colors are so fun. We always get our ornaments from Target or somewhere like that also (: I just can't wait to decorate the tree on Thursday with my mama! It's my favorite Holiday tradition, too!

Yeah sweetie…I'm like you, I can't wait to start putting my tree up! I've created a tradition to buy something, an ornament, every year for it and I've done it since 1975, our first Xmas. Now I have things that my daughters made themselves when they were children, pics of my granddaughters, of my kids, gifts from family and friends, etc.
I love your big tree, you're young enough to start from now to collect ornaments on yours…just terrific.
Merry Christmas and thank you. Visit my blog too and see my tree.
