The transition from nursery to “big boy” room continues and our bed arrived last week. It’s the Pottery Barn Hampton Classic from Pottery Barn Teen, on sale for $399 plus delivery. Our deliverymen assembled the twin bed in about 20 minutes and said it’s one of the most popular beds they deliver. To make the room feel truly different from the nursery, we switched up the furniture placement too.
Side rails were added to the bed since our little guy is a super squirmy sleeper. These are from
Overstock and $32.99 each. So far they are working perfectly, very sturdy and secure.
To dress up the large blank wall over the bed, I chose a
paper macho deer from West Elm– this one is the large. When my son first saw it he said, “I don’t like it!” But, he’s since come around.
The pouf is awesome for adding another pop of blue and also acts as a ladder for James to climb into the bed. It was a sale item from
Joss & Main.
It didn’t take James long to figure out that he can climb in and out of the bed now, so we are dealing with lots of nighttime requests for, “one more hug and kiss” and “another drink of water” and on and on. I know you all with little ones have encountered that too!
For you
eagle eye readers, I have started a gallery wall on the wall adjacent the bed. It’s not perfect, but I hope to show you tomorrow. 🙂
Sure is cozy in the big boy bed!
The timing of creating a new room for James is perfect because I am also participating in a “Book Nook Challenge” with
Pottery Barn Kid and
PBS Kids, who have teamed up to promote reading in conjunction with Pottery Barn Kids’ annual summer reading program. The cool thing is they have asked six bloggers to create a kid-focused book nook and gave us items from the Pottery Barn Kids collection to work with. I was lucky enough to get to participate and got my goodies last week! It’s been really fun creating a special reading nook for James – I’m not done yet, but will be sharing soon! There will be a contest to see which bloggers’ book nook the readers like best, so you can vote if you want to. The winner will get to give one of their readers a $500 gift card to Pottery Barn!

Love the updates! I'm sure the getting in and out of bed is a challenge, but I think it's super sweet that he asks for one more kiss or hug. Precious! And I know I have it coming…I guess I should be careful to voice what I think is "cute" these days! 😉
Seriously Natasha, when your little boy is standing at the top of the stairs in his pjs telling you he wants to give you another hug and kiss you head upstairs for sure. Too hard to resist. P.S. he stayed in bed all night tonight. 🙂
So cute! And we are right in the midst of the one more kiss, hug, blanket, etc!
So so cute, Megan. I love the color and that pouf is great, too. What a big boy he is now. Wow. Can't wait to see the book nook. Sounds like such a fun challenge.
awwww he looks so grown up in there!! LOVE LOVE the navy pouf! such a fun space!
SUPER CUTE! Love the deer over the bed. Very cool 🙂
We just got a new headboard for my big boy's room that I'll be posting about this week. Love decorating for a big boy. So much fun!

ha — who's an eagle-eye!?!? Not me!! 🙂 funny link
the bed looks great — love the white deer on those walls! And could James be any cuter in there?!?! Awesome about the PB…can't wait to see what you do.
love how his room is coming together, love that bed
LOVE the idea of using a pouf as a step stool for climbing into bed! Scott will prob not be thrilled that you gave me this idea 😉
Love his big boy bed! So pretty! And I'm so glad that he's come around on the deer head!
Haha, the cars bedding. My husband bought Thomas and Tinkerbelle quilts without consulting. Of course, the kids love it best. So I've been running around trying to make it work. Target came to the rescue with the reversible quilts in blue/navy and lilac/purple and interesting throws. It's fun finding something to bridge the compromise.
Quick question. Just bought the same bed and side rails but having trouble getting it to work. Do you have a box spring or something else for the side rails tracks to sit on? Thanks.
We don't have a box spring. The side rails just fit under the mattress.
Hi, I'm considering this bed for my 3 year old twin boys. Can you tell me how it's held up so far?
Hi Missy! It's held up really well so far, still looks like new, but the commenter below you said her bed got a lot of nicks and scratches.
Hi, I too purchased this bed for my little girl. We have had it just over 6 months and it has lots of nicks and scratches. It looked beautiful initially but the wood quality isn't very good at all. Would love to know how the bed is holding up for you. Thanks.
I'm so sorry to hear that Tracey. Our bed still looks like new after a year. I'm not sure what the difference
