Hi friends! Welcome back to my blog! I hope your week is going really well! It’s been busy, busy here! Fun too though!
For the last couple months one of the biggest questions around here was, will the kids go back to school? Is it safe for them to go? If they go what will it look like? Will we be doing distance-learning again? It’s been really stressful with all of those questions swirling around and so much uncertainty.
I know y’all are feeling it too. I’ve chatted with many of you across the country and the back to school plans are all over the place. For us, we had been originally told that school would start back in person on August 12 as planned, with the option to distance learn if you prefer. Then, we got another message saying we will have a delayed start beginning September 8, with the school year extending into June.
Our school is very small, only two classrooms per grade and some parents are choosing distance-learning, so the classrooms won’t be very full when my kids go back.
We are all looking forward to them returning to school. Both of my kids miss their friends tremendously. I know James learned better in the classroom and Jordan was really thriving in pre-K3 last year.
I appreciate the routine and feel comfortable with all of the safety precautions the school has laid out in their back to school guidelines. That having been said, the silver lining to being home for six months has been that my kids and I have bonded even more and I’ve gotten to spend so much more time with them. I already feel fortunate to have had this time, even though it wasn’t planned or expected.
Today I’m partnering with Academy Sports + Outdoors and excited to share their Tax Free Weekend sale. In Texas (I’m in Houston), Tax Free Weekend allows you to save money by not having to pay sales tax on clothing, footwear, school supplies and backpacks under $100 per item.
This year’s sales tax holiday begins Friday, August 7 and ends at midnight Sunday, August 9. The discount applies on sales in stores or online. At Academy you can shop both. If you prefer to shop online, Academy also offers free curbside pickup and shipping is free on orders over $25.
Our dining room is where we did distance learning from March through May this year.
James is smiling now, but he sure wasn’t then!
I just can’t get over how big he is! He’s 10 now and I’m sure he’ll be taller than me soon!
Not only does Academy have practical and quality clothing for kids, they also have tons of sporting goods to keep the kids active while at home.
Jordan has so many beautiful dresses in her closet, but she much prefers to be in pajamas or shorts and a t-shirt! These shorts are lined and perfect for playing sports.
She loves to get outside and play ball or ride bikes. I was hoping to enroll Jordan in t-ball or soccer this year, but it doesn’t look like that’s gonna happen.
Guess what’s cool about these sneakers?! Besides their vibrant colors and easy velcro closure, they LIGHT UP! Isn’t it so funny how kids go nuts over light up shoes?!

Have y’all decided what your kids will do for school next year? When I asked y’all on Stories, the answers were all over the place. It seems most schools are opting for a late start, but a handful are planning to start on time. And then there are those that won’t plan to reopen until February 2021.
Whatever it is, I hope everyone stays healthy and safe!
