Kitchen & Breakfast Room LOVE

Kitchen & Breakfast Room LOVE

Happy Friday y’all!  I’m looking forward to the HomeGoods event in Saturday morning- I’ll be there bright and shiny at 8:00 a.m.!  If you’re in Houston, I can’t wait to see you there!

What I have to show you today is nothing short of breathtaking.  It is a kitchen/breakfast room remodel by the incredibly talented Emily Hewitt of A Well Dressed Home.  She is an interior designer in Dallas and she recently worked this magic.  Take a peek.

I love it all and would happily move in in an instant.

Chalkboard Menu

When I first created the chalk wall in our kitchen (at the end of August!), I envisioned writing out our weekly menu on it, but I admit, this week is the first week I’ve actually done that.  I got inspired by my gorgeous friend Carmel at Our Fifth House.  She’s and her family have recently gone Paleo and she shared a delicious cauliflower hummus recipe on my health blog, Honey We’re Healthy last week.

I definitely prefer to plan our meals for the week, but that doesn’t always happen.

Spring Cleaning & Organizing {Kitchen Drawers}

Spring Cleaning & Organizing {Kitchen Drawers}

Of all the rooms in our house, the kitchen is the one I probably spend the most time keeping tidy and organized.  It’s the most-used room in the house and gets the dirtiest the fastest.  I love when it looks like the picture below, but of course, that’s not most of the time.

Today, I’m sharing a peek inside our kitchen drawers, 3 of which are dedicated solely to James’ evolving feeding needs.  We are blessed to have a lot of kitchen storage, so I’m able to organize things how I like.   But, even with an abundance of storage,

Our Kitchen

Our Kitchen

The kitchen often sets the tone for a home and that is no different in our house.  It’s the first place we head to in the morning for our daily coffee, where countless meals are made, and the days’ events discussed.  Where bottles are washed and baby food is pureed.
When we began designing our home, the only room I had a clear vision for was the kitchen.  After pouring over decor magazines and design blogs for about a year, the images that kept appealing to me over and over had three things in common {white cabinets, white subway tile,

Our Home Featured at 6th Street Design School

Earlier in the week while I was writing the post about the blogs you liked and sharing some of my favorites, Kirsten of 6th Street Design School emailed me and said that she recently found my blog and was interested in featuring our home on her blog.  Whoa!  Seriously?!  It was so funny because her blog was one of the blogs I listed as a new daily read for me. When I got the email, it was pretty late and I was on my computer in bed, trying to type quietly while my husband slept.

Organized {Spices}

Organized {Spices}

Am I ridiculous for getting excited about organizing my spices?  Sad, I know:)  Before my little spice-organization project, my spice jars were a mismatched jumble.  I had been wanting to organize them and make them prettier for some time, and when I read how SmittenKitchen organized her spices here, I was inspired.    Here’s what my confused spices looked like BEFORE.   And here they are AFTER.      I used the 4.5 ounce sealable glass jars, which are perfect for fitting your whole tablespoon into.  I washed and dried the jars,

Dreaming of a White Kitchen

Dreaming of a White Kitchen

For many, many months before designing our own kitchen, I scoured design magazine, books and blogs looking for inspiration.  I knew I wanted a light, bright kitchen with a window and an island.  Lots of storage and space for organization was also high on my list.  For aesthetics, I was drawn to the pictures below.  I apologize that I don’t have photo credit for all of these images.

I love the white cabinets and counters coupled with the warm wood tone of the floor and rear shelves.  I also like that the upper cabinets are open with glass doors.

Nice clean lines.
