About Me

Thank you for visiting Honey We’re Healthy!

I’m Megan, and we might already be friends from my home decor and organization blog, Honey We’re Home.  If we haven’t met yet, I’m glad you’re here!  I’m a 37 year-old mom to an adorable 2 1/2 year old son, James.  He’s the love of my life, but I will admit, pregnancy was not so hot for me- on my 5’1 frame, I gained over 50 pounds.  To read about how I lost the weight and got back into shape, go HERE.

As I approach my 40s and raise my young son, being active and healthy has become more important than ever.  I’m not a nutritionist or personal trainer, just a regular working woman who wants to raise a fit family and look and feel the best I can.  I want a lean figure and shapely muscles.  Many of you have the same goals.  I know that my body runs better when I nourish it with natural, unprocessed, low sugar foods and that I feel strong and energized when I workout and lift weights.

My approach to living healthy has been shaped by lots of reading and research from people like: Dr. Oz; Fitness Models/Writers Jamie Eason, Monica Brant, and Tosca Reno; Chef Ellie Kreiger; Personal Trainers Bob Greene and Jillian Michaels; and Food Writer Michael Pollan.  I also read magazines like Oxygen and Whole Living.  I’ll digest the information and bring it to you here.

My hope is that Honey We’re Healthy will be a place of encouragement, support, and motivation to make our journeys toward health and fitness more doable and fun.  I plan to share meals- healthy ones but also yummy desserts for once in a while.  I admit to having a major sweet tooth and wouldn’t dream of eliminating chocolate from my diet.  I’ll also post fitness tips and my workout routine, as well as all things related to living a healthful lifestyle.

I hope you enjoy visiting and come back often.  You can follow Honey We’re Healthy HERE or subscribe HERE.

I’ll leave you with very wise words from my loving Grandma, who always signs her handwritten letters to me with the sweetest sentiment . . .

Congrats on the launch! Love your blog and I'm excited to follow this one! Would you consider doing a post to review your favorite healthy cookbooks?

    • September 28, 2012 / 5:38 pm

Yes Amanda! I just got the America's Test Kitchen Healthy Family Cookbook and it's already a favorite. They put all the nutrition info in and really explain how to prepare the recipe. It's that tall green one in the picture above.

This blog is exactly what I have been looking for! I am your same height, built similar and have a couple of questions. Is there a particular calorie count you aim for each day? Also, is your husband ok with eating the "healthy" things you make for dinner. It seems like chicken and veggies just won't cut it here at my house, he needs a potato, pasta, rice or bread. What are your tips for cooking for a husband πŸ™‚

    • October 5, 2012 / 4:35 am

Lucky for me, my husband is on board with all of this. He is undergoing his own weight transformation so that really helps. I will write more about calories soon! I'm not counting, but I know about what I need in terms of portion sizes and amounts of protein.

Hi! I am a new follower! Glad to find a fitness blog that is closer to my age, it's harder for us over 35 to compare our weight issues with a 20-25 year old!

  13. December 31, 2012 / 7:45 pm

Im a new follower and hoping to get motivated by starting my own blog! Im struggling to stay motivated to lose the baby fat from my 2 children. I plan to start tomorrow after my last night of eating unhealthy!! LOL

I would love to see some ideas on here about staying healthy WHILE pregnant. I haven't gained a whole or of weight in these first 18 wks of my pregnancy but with the never-ending cravings (now that I can eat again, that is), but I would like reasonable, feasible ideas for keeping on top of my body BEFORE I get out of control! Love your blog! Liz

Hi Megan, I just found your blog and love it! I have a 16-month old daughter and am considering joining a gym. The gym has a good childcare center, but I am still nervous about leaving my daughter because I haven't left her with anyone before. But I need some "me time" and am hoping the gym with be the answer. Thanks for your wonderful blog. Susan

Hi Megan – not sure if you will remember me out of context, but we went to school together and used to work in the same office πŸ™‚ I happened by your blog by accident (a link from Emily Clark's blog) and love it! Hope you're doing well! Melissa

I just have to say- I can't believe you're 37!! I have been reading your decor blog for a couple years now and I would have bet money you were around 32! You look AWESOME!!

Just discovered your blog & have enjoyed spending the day reading all of your older posts.
So now I have a question…I attend a Body Sculpt class at my gym 4 times a week. It's a weight-lifting class that I used to enjoy. The instructor does the same moves each class & I find myself getting bored. And recently my Jenny Craig counselor said you have to change your routine every 6 weeks because our muscles respond better. So how do I get my weight-lifting instructor to change up her routine? I don't want to offend her or hurt her feelings. But there has to be other things we can be doing besides the same lunges, squats, push-ups & situps. Any advice you can share?

Megan, I'm so glad I found your blog!
I just had a little baby girl almost 2 months ago and have been so unhappy with my body since then. Although I only have around 10 lbs to lose until I'm where I want to be, I just feel like it's impossible. I was looking on pinterest for inspiration and clicked on your blog and I feel so much more motivated! I recently just started blogging again and I'm hoping to be able to document my weight loss journey and ultimately just change my lifestyle and exercise regularly and eat healthy, I hope I can make motivate someone reading my blog like I felt when I read yours!

Sharing your button on my blog πŸ™‚

I am a teacher and if I understand correctly, so are you. If so, how do you manage all the extra at home work as well as trying to balance working out and eating healthy?

How is the training going for the bikini competition? What is your diet plan like these days? I'm wanting to compete myself this July in a bikini competition but super nervous! Wanted to do it with a coach but so expensive, so now I'm talking myself out of doing it! Just curious, other than training with your trainer, did you hire a coach to help you through the process of competition prep and to be with you the day of the competition? Just wondering how many people actually have a coach! Good luck to you!!
