This & That
These random posts where I share tidbits from my life lately have become some of my favorite posts to share with you. Consider it our relaxed ‘girl talk’ and get cozy because there’s lots of goodness and useful tips packed in here!
Wow, I feel like January kicked off with a bang! I’ve been so filled with ideas for new content here and honestly right now have more ideas than time or space! Maybe that’s why I’ve been having trouble sleeping! Sometimes, even if I’m exhausted, I have trouble turning off my brain! And if you read yesterday’s post about how I was gonna give up coffee for 5 days to see if it improved my sleep, I’ll fast forward and let you know I’m a big wimp and only lasted ONE day! Pitiful, I know!! But, I decided to allow myself that morning cup of coffee that I enjoy so much,View Post
Good Monday Morning! Did y’all have a good weekend?? It’s been nonstop over here with so many things going on at once that I just had to stop for a second, breathe, and pull myself together. Does that happen to you too, when you feel like your brain is going to explode with all the things swimming around in it?!
A good sit down to brain dump everything that’s on my mind onto paper always helps. I often use Evernote, but this time I just sat down with a good old fashion piece of paper and my favorite sharpie and put on paper my giant list of to-dos and all those little things that I’m afraid I’m going to forget and everything will fall apart.View Post
I cannot believe we are already at the last weekend in December and the last weekend of 2017! We are settling in for a long Christmas break, since school is out until January 9th! Do you have any fun NYE plans? Our big plans include pizza and a movie on the couch in these! I’m wishing y’all the most blessed, joyful and full of life 2018 ever! I’m ready to say Peace Out 2017, and ring in the new year!

Hi friends! Welcome to Friday! Yay! It’s been a long week and we’re looking so forward to the weekend! I’ve got all kinds of things on my mind, so it’s perfect for a random This & That post! I’ve heard from so many of you that let me know you enjoy these kinds of posts, so I plan to keep them coming. The OCD part of my brain prefers to post about one type of thing in a post that I can neatly put into a single category, but I created a This & That tab for that purpose,View Post
Hi friend! So good to see you here again! After the weekends where I’m away from my blog, it ALWAYS feels great to get back to it on Monday morning! That’s when you know you’re doing something you truly enjoy- when day after day, you still look forward to doing it! Today is going to be one of those random This & That posts. I think of those as phone chats with you where we just catch up on all kinds of things!
First up, let’s start with this weekend! In preparation for two! Christmas home tours I’m joining this year,View Post
Holy Moly! How is it the last day of November already?!?! I know my son has been ready for December because that’s when he gets to start his Advent calendar! We got him a Lego one and this year, and I also created an Advent calendar on the back of our tree! It’s using the same small muslin bags I had from years ago and now he can look on the back of the tree for the corresponding day and find the bag filled with a small treat or handwritten note or something to do that day! I’m super excited about this!View Post
Here we are, back to Monday, friends! That weekend sure flew by, but it was jam packed! I have a feeling most weekends are going to feel this way since the end of the year always tends to be so busy. I did pull out our Christmas decor this weekend with the intentions of getting ahead, but in reality, with my snail’s pace of decorating, I think we’ll be right on time! Have you started yet?
We kicked off the weekend with our annual trip to the Nutcracker Market. It’s a holiday fair with vendors from all over the country selling Christmas decor,View Post
It’s a giddy with excitement kind of day over here!! Not only is it HALLOWEEN and the kids are AMPED UP! I tell ya! But we’re also thisclose to becoming World Series Champions!!! Houston has an electric-feeling quality in the air and it’s just one of those days where you feel great to be alive with hope and happiness about the day and future! #HoustonStrong! Let’s bring it home, ‘Stros! I have a feeling all those tiny trick-or-treaters will be ringing doors early, so that we can all get back home and watch the game!
October was a busy month,View Post
How about them Astros?!! We’re going to the WORLD SERIES!!!! Cue the confetti!!! We let out a collective cheer when the Astros clinched it and everyone is just so excited for this thrilling news! We had to cheer quietly since Jordan was asleep, but we still cheered! 😉 Our whole town is beyond excited and overwhelmed with emotion, especially after all the heartache of Hurricane Harvey. It’s good news that is helping heal our wounded city. #HoustonStrong
GIMME ALL THE PUMPKINS
On Friday, my Mom and I took Jordan to a small pumpkin patch near our house and let her run among the pumpkins for the first time.
Talk about a whirlwind trip! Thank you so much to Better Homes & Gardens for inviting me to NYC, I don’t take those opportunities for granted! But, I have to say, without your readership and support of this blog, BH&G wouldn’t even know who I was! So, thank you to YOU for reading and commenting and engaging with me here and on social media! I loved sharing our trip with you as it happened on Stories! IG Stories are awesome because they are live and in action so you get a better feeling of the person than just reading their words.View Post
Welcome to the start of a new week friends! I hope you had a glorious weekend! This weekend kicked off the official start to our baseball season and the first game was Saturday. Our kids in the 6-8 year old range are definitely getting the hang of this sport now, so it’s extra fun to watch them battle it out on the field. Of course, I’m still running after an active toddler most of the time, so I’m lucky to get to watch half the game. Last year, I made the mistake of letting Jordan hold my iPhone to “entertain”View Post
Oh Florida friends, I’ve been thinking about you all weekend! I’ve seen you evacuating your homes and I remember from Hurricane Rita how painful that can be with the gas shortages and the crazy amount of traffic. I’ve been watching the news like crazy and I’ve heard from some of you this weekend. I know how scary this is, so please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you! And I can’t believe it’s been 16 years since September 11. It still feels like it happened yesterday because it’s a day that is forever etched in our hearts and we all know exactly what we were doing the moment of the attack on our great country.View Post
Hello friends! I hope you had a great, long Labor Day weekend. It’s been quite an emotional week here as I’m sure you can imagine. We had planned to go on a family Labor Day weekend trip to Wimberley, Texas (including my mom and brothers and their wives and kids), but with all that’s happened here lately, we ended up cancelling. We were disappointed to miss, but we used that time here for good and continued volunteering at a local church (First Baptist) and were grateful to see the fruits of everyone’s hard labor come to fruition.View Post
Hi friends! I wanted to give you another update on Hurricane Harvey because I know how much you care. It’s all that’s on our hearts and minds lately. I shared ways you can help yesterday, but I’m learning more as the days pass and more information is being disseminated, so I have more to share today. Along with some inspiring stories in the midst of all the suffering. We could use some good news, right?
Although it has continued to rain, the water surrounding our neighborhood subsided and we were able to get out of our house in the morning to donate items to the George R.View Post
Good morning friends! I had planned to post about skincare today, but in light of the recent devastating events in Houston and the surrounding areas like Rockport, Corpus Christi, Port Aransas and more, I’m postponing that so I can just talk to you from my heart today.

Although we haven’t been badly affected by the storm, so many of our friends and neighbors have. We had heard it was going to be bad over the weekend, but it’s just been getting worse and worse. 50 counties flooded, 30,000 people are in shelters,View Post
School started today! James is officially a second grader! You super long time readers (thank you!) will remember that I started this blog when he was just 4 months old! And now he’s seven! The first day of school always brings a mix of emotions from sad and sentimental to excited about the new school year and happy to get things organized in our home! So, with that in mind, I’ll kick this This & That post off with a few productivity tips and organizing hacks!

How’s your week going friends? I’m just over here counting down the days ’til the 2017 Nordstrom Anniversary Sale like a kid at Christmas! It’s so close, opening this Thursday for cardholders. 🙋🏼I got a friendly letter in the mail letting me know they upped my limit just in time for the sale- #thankyouverymuch! We’ll keep this little detail to ourselves and not bother the hubby with that tidbit of info! 😉 Are you excited?!?! Of course, I’ll be sharing my picks on Thursday and then a big ‘ole dressing room round up on Friday with fit tips and recommendations. Let me know what you have questions about and I’ll do my best investigative journalism for ya!
1. Cold Shoulder Dress
This swingy striped! cold shoulder dress is perfect for daytime or evenings out. Love the simplicity of it and the drapey fabric. Such a steal at right under $50! For a daytime look, you could wear it with the #10 sandals (they have lots of colors) & for evening, these black open toe heeled sandals would be great.
2. Statement Ring
Show off your summer mani with this gorgeous, chic statement ring! I like to wear it on my first or middle finger on my right hand with a bold bracelet.
3. Crystal & Enamel Hinged Bangle
This simple bangle bracelet is the perfect layering piece to your watch or with a stack of other bracelets, or worn simply alone.
4. Blue Maxi Dress
I’m sure you’ve heard me rave about this maxi dress before. Every time I wear it, I get tons of compliments and it’s really flattering and comfortable. It’s on sale under $40! I wear XS.
5. Peacock Iphone Case
How cute is this peacock phone case?! Your mirror selfies will be so much cuter with this little guy peeking out in them!
6. Zella High Waist Crop Leggings
High waist leggings will be your BFF, I swear! They keep you all nice and tucked in and make you feel great while working out. Zella quality is always superb, and this pair comes in three colors with criss-cross detail at the calf. They run TTS, I wear size XS.
7. Z 6 Ruched Tee
Although I normally wear a tank to workout, this Zella tee is my go-to when I want a t-shirt. The seams in the shirt are perfectly placed to help the illusion of a smaller waist and I like the cut of the sleeves that don’t irritate me when I’m working out.
8. Faux Leather Saddle Bag
This crossbody bag is the prettiest light and navy blue combo. It’s also a good size, so it will hold all your necessities and then some.
9. Striped Tank
My go-to tank, $11!!! I think I need to stock up on the other colors. It’s perfect for wearing alone or layering under cardigans or other tops. It fits TTS, XS here.
10. GiGi Sandals
I have the older version of these sandals and they are really good! They come in tons of colors and the “beige leather” has a snakeskin pattern that goes with everything. Sam Edelman makes quality shoes that last, so I highly recommend them!View Post
