Our Breakfast Room

Our Breakfast Room

When designing our home, I dreamed of a little breakfast room with a window where we could enjoy our weekend mornings, lingering over the table with a cup of coffee and the paper or a magazine.  The room would also double as a place for casual dinners and easy get-togethers with friends.  The logical location for our breakfast room was just off the kitchen, adjacent to the living room.  We ended up with two windows, plus the glass door, so lots of natural light.     After moving in, the breakfast room sat empty while I struggled to find the perfect table for the space.

Color Confusion

Color Confusion

I’m having such a hard time deciding on a paint color for the back of the media cabinet in the living room.  My husband is color blind and no help at all.  Thank God for blog friends!!  Here’s what I’m working with.  As you can see, it’s a pretty neutral color palette and I want to inject a little color.  I’m planning to remove some of the brown accessories and replace them with silver and white. These aqua decorative balls from Target are my “color inspiration.”   I will also be adding colored/patterned?? drapes in the future.

Family Room in Progress

Family Room in Progress

Since we seem to spend the most time in the living room, (and especially on the couch), I thought it would be a good place to start- decor wise.  I was thinking it should be pretty easy since we already have the sofa, a nice built-in media/bookshelf cabinet and good bones like dark hardwood floors and nice windows.  So far, here’s what I’ve come up with: BEFORE AFTER

Operation Paint Bedroom Furniture

Operation Paint Bedroom Furniture

I’ve had this wooden bedroom furniture (bed, dresser, and swivel mirror) from Ikea for about 15 years.  It’s still in relatively good shape and we’re using it in the guest room.  I wanted to give it a makeover to add some new life to it instead of purchasing new furniture.  I figured it would be really pretty in white and then I could add touches of color to the room with the bedding, art, and accessories. BEFORE I’ve never undertaken a project like this before.  But, I figured that given all the hours I’ve spent “studying” Centsational Girl’s tutorials about how to paint furniture,

Finding the Perfect Ottoman

Finding the Perfect Ottoman

Like I said yesterday, our sectional is great, but we need an ottoman for the middle to set things on.  So far, I’ve been using a tray on the actual couch, but I’d rather have the ottoman to put the tray on and hubs wants something to put his feet on.  I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect ottoman that fits the space without being too big (we need to be able to walk around it), too short, or too tall. I’m opting for an ottoman over a coffee table because I wanted something with a “softer” feel.  I was thinking I’d like one in dark brown leather to contrast with the sofa that is micro suede and colored “light wheat” and the rug we’ll be getting this weekend.

I’m in love . . . with a table

I’m in love . . . with a table

I’ve been on the hunt for a dining room table for the formal dining room.  My ideal formal dining room isn’t so “formal” at all, but really just a nice, peaceful space for my friends and family to gather for a meal, dessert, drinks, laughs and good conversation.  I think its also nice to have a special spot for just me and the hubs to enjoy our dinner since our everyday lives are so busy and it’s the perfect time to talk after a long day.  (Of course, sometimes its just as nice to eat pizza out of the box on the couch!)

I wanted a table large enough to seat 10-12 people comfortably for holiday gatherings and dinner parties.
