Our Sitting Room // New Wingchair

Our Sitting Room // New Wingchair

How good do you feel when you score a really great item at an affordable price?  And when that item is a piece of furniture purchased over the Internet, without the benefit of an in-person inspection, isn’t it even better?  I feel that way about a wingback chair I found a few months ago.  It works perfectly in our master sitting area and is actually pretty comfy.

It’s a pretty cream color with silver nailhead trim along the bottom and sides.

Big Boy Room Paint

Big Boy Room Paint

I hope you all enjoyed a nice long weekend!  I made some progress on my son’s room, including changing up the wall color and adding a colored ceiling.  You might remember his nursery walls were light blue “Blissful Blue” by Sherwin Williams and the ceiling was “Divine White” also by Sherwin Williams.

Now, he’s got darker walls “Indi-go-go” by Benjamin Moore (color matched at Sherwin Williams) and a light blue ceiling “Honest Blue” by Sherwin Williams.  There is a Sherwin Williams near my house, so that’s where I get all my paint.

Below are the paint formulas if you’re interested.

James’ Room // West Elm Shower Curtain into Drapes

James’ Room // West Elm Shower Curtain into Drapes

For James’ room, I wanted wide horizontal blue and white striped drapes, and made them from a West Elm Shower Curtain.  The color is called dusty navy and the material is 100% cotton.  Three problems: 1) I prefer a rod pocket as opposed to the way it’s meant to hang on hooks, 2) it’s too short for the room at 74×72 inches, and 3) it’s not lined.

I’m no seamstress, but I figured I could try what Amanda Carol did and buy three curtains, and use the third one for added length.

Creating a Book Nook in My Son’s Room

Creating a Book Nook in My Son’s Room

I told y’all on Monday that I was lucky enough to be part of the Pottery Barn Kids & PBS Kids Book Nook Challenge where six bloggers were given goodies from Pottery Barn Kids to create a reading nook in their homes.  Y’all will get to vote on which nook you like best and the blogger who wins will get to give one of her readers a $500 gift card to Pottery Barn.  Cool, huh?!

The space I’m working with is my son’s room, but first I had to clean out the toys and stuffed animals!

Kid Gallery Wall

Kid Gallery Wall

I’ve wanted to add a gallery wall to our home for a long time, but have gotten totally intimidated and overwhelmed because they seem like a lot of work and I don’t feel like I really know how to put them together.  When we changed up my son’s nursery and put the bed where the changing table used to be, I had a huge blank wall that I knew would be perfect for a gallery wall.  And something about it being in a kid’s room seemed to take the pressure off.  It’s not perfect, and it’s not necessarily supposed to be,

Big Boy Bed (Pottery Barn Hampton Classic)

Big Boy Bed (Pottery Barn Hampton Classic)

The transition from nursery to “big boy” room continues and our bed arrived last week.  It’s the Pottery Barn Hampton Classic from Pottery Barn Teen, on sale for $399 plus delivery.  Our deliverymen assembled the twin bed in about 20 minutes and said it’s one of the most popular beds they deliver.  To make the room feel truly different from the nursery, we switched up the furniture placement too.

Side rails were added to the bed since our little guy is a super squirmy sleeper.  These are from Overstock and $32.99 each.  So far they are working perfectly,

Kid Spaces

Kid Spaces

Perfect timing for today’s post from some of my favorite people over at Small Fry blog.  As you know, I’m in the midst of making over my son’s nursery into a toddler room, and below are two creative kids rooms I know you’ll love.  Don’t these girls look like fun?! Their personalities translate into their children’s spaces too!

Jenna:

I started the concept of Quinn’s Room with the colors I wanted:Aqua Blue, Orange & Grey. I can’t remember where I got my initial inspiration for those colors, but color is where the room started.

Big Boy Bedroom Plan

Big Boy Bedroom Plan

My 3 year-old son will soon be sleeping in a big boy bed.  He’s been quite content in his crib (only crawled out once!) all this time.  I took my time searching for a new bed and didn’t go with the car bed although I did consider it, opting instead for a better quality twin bed and “Cars” bedding.

I searched everywhere, looking online and in several stores.  I almost bought one from Wal-Mart.com, but the reviews weren’t that good and said the color (Walnut) was more orange/red than pictured.

I really loved the dark blue

Step One Toward a Big Boy Room

Step One Toward a Big Boy Room

I recently mentioned that my son’s room still looks more like a nursery than a toddler room, even though he just turned three.  Over the weekend, we took the first step toward a big boy room- removing the changing table part from his dresser.  It came right off, I just had to use a wood pen to paint over some surface scratches.

And now it looks much more like a dresser!

For now, I’ve accessorized it with a large textured raffia tray from West Elm, some books, a Target lamp,

Time for a Big Boy Bed?

Time for a Big Boy Bed?

Since our son is turning 3 soon, I’ve been wondering if it’s time to get him out of the crib and into a big boy bed.  He’s quite content in his crib and has only crawled out once though.  Looking at this picture below makes me pretty sure it’s time.

I don’t know why he likes to pile his crib so high with stuff.  I often find that green stool in there in the morning (it’s what he uses to crawl in and he’ll somehow get it inside during the night).

I’m also itching to change up his room since it still looks like his baby nursery.

Bedding- Help!

Bedding- Help!

As you know, after having my eye on an upholstered headboard for our master bedroom, we finally bit the bullet and ordered the Aisling Cream Fabric King Bed from Overstock.  We are still waiting for it to arrive.

In anticipation of the bed’s arrival, I’ve been looking for new bedding to dress her in.  Our current bedding is just plain white sheets with an aqua blanket.  I’d like to keep the pale color, but add some pretty pattern to make it more interesting.

I really like this muted pastel bedding from Restoration Hardware.

Inexpensive Botanical Wall Art

Inexpensive Botanical Wall Art

Isn’t it so nice to have a long weekend?  The extra time with my hubby and baby around all together at home was so nice.  And James has started becoming such a ham (loves to laugh and make you laugh too) that it’s great to be able to share these moments with Jimmy, instead of just soaking them in by myself when I’m alone with James.  It’s that glance we give each other like, “How could this baby be so impossibly cute?” and happy!

Aside from marveling at that cuteness, I did manage to complete a project that I’d been wanting to do for a while- add some art to our pitifully empty bedroom walls!

Top Blogger Project and Master Bedroom

Top Blogger Project and Master Bedroom

We’re only into the second month of 2011 and already, so much fabulousness is happening all over blogland!  I am head-over-heels for two projects I spotted recently- a cabinet makeover and a master bedroom reveal. First up, my friend Emily of Name 5 Things took her uninspired Ikea cabinet and turned it into a sleek and stylish masterpiece!  All it took was some paint and a some graph paper to draw the Greek key design (with the help of her hubby)!  BEFORE Visit her BLOG to see how she did it- she included a very detailed tutorial that I’m sure you’ll appreciate.

Simple Nightstand Update

Simple Nightstand Update

Do you notice anything different between this photo  . . . And this photo?    If you didn’t, don’t worry, my husband didn’t either!  Before he went to bed, he asked me what I was doing.  I said, writing a post about the changes to the nightstand.  What changes?, he replied.  Well, the changes are rather small.  I switched out the lamp shade for a larger one, got a new clock, and put away the books I’m not currently reading.   See? Before After   A few simple changes for a nicer look.

Light and Bright

Light and Bright

Hi all!  I hope your week is off to a great start.  Busy here, I’ve got a couple of different projects going on and making my way through accomplishing them while the baby sleeps.  I am excited to show you our improved bedroom.  As you know, since we moved into our house in July, the windows in our master bedroom and bathroom looked like this Last Thursday morning the shutters were finally installed and I couldn’t be happier with the results.  I was getting nervous as the shutters were being brought inside because they looked huge,
