Productivity

A habitual list-maker and recovering washy-tape addict, I have a special affinity for all things related to being organized and productive in our day-to-day lives.  Here you’ll find lots of ideas you can immediately implement for how to be productive and get things done.

My Early Morning Routine

My Early Morning Routine

*This post is sponsored by Swanson Health Products, but of course, all opinions and early wake up calls are my own!

Rise and shine, friends! I’m definitely not that chipper in the morning, nor am I a morning person (as my hubby can attest), but I made a commitment to waking up at 5 a.m. at the start of May as a way to get my workouts in.  It’s been a great feeling to be up and moving before the sun is even up and I’m sticking with it!

I’ll do another post soon with all my tips and tricks (and there are a few!) for how to get your booty up that early.

Back to School Routine

Back to School Routine

Is today your kids’ first day back to school?  If so, I’m sending you hugs and congratulations for making it through the summer with everyone in tact!  I might have squealed the tires out the driveway on our first day back, but maybe you have more restraint. 😉  Our son went back early, so we’re already on Week 3 and Labor Day weekend is on the horizon.Since I’m all about routines to keep our mornings running on the smoother side, I’m sharing how our weekday mornings look around here now with a first grader and six month old!  Gah! Can you believe Jordan is six months old already?!

On My Master List

On My Master List

Now that the One Room Challenge is over and my office is all mine and ready to be worked in, all those little tidbits and to-do’s that have been swimming around in my brain for the last month can finally be tended to.  Everything was on the back burner while that room was being finished and my brain felt like it was going to explode with the mental list that was piling up.  Whenever I feel that happening, I know it’s time to pull out my MASTER LIST and get it updated.  I always feel so much better after a good brain dump!

How I Taught My Kindergartener to Get Himself …

How I Taught My Kindergartener to Get Himself Ready for School (on time without nagging)

If your house is anything like ours, mornings are hectic as we prepare for the day and try to get our son off to school on time.  Before our daughter was born, I wanted to make him responsible for getting himself ready for school in the mornings so I didn’t have to be all, “eat breakfast . . . get your shoes on . . . have you brushed your teeth yet? . . .  HURRY UP!!!!” everyday.  That hurry-up and yell routine stressed us both out and certainly wasn’t the best way to start the day.

Sunday Night Planning for a Productive Week

Sunday Night Planning for a Productive Week

I realized I’ve been asking myself a lot lately, “What’s the most important thing?” And I don’t mean in a “let’s ponder the meaning of life” kind of way.  Of course, our health, spiritual walk, relationships and children all top the list of those most important things in our lives.  What I’m talking about is more practical: What’s the most important thing that needs to get done today? Because that one thing is all I might have time for now that we have a two-month old in the house.

All moms (and especially new moms) understand the struggle to try to accomplish anything when you have a baby (or more) at home.

A Day in the Life

A Day in the Life

Waking up this Monday morning feeling like it was Friday only yesterday!  Can you relate?! Weekends are pretty busy with trying to fit in all the things we didn’t get to during the week, and adding in a birthday party and sports game to the mix.  No rest for the weary and today I’m sharing what life has been like since Jordan’s been born.

We’ve definitely had to adjust our routine to accommodate the stress delight of having two kids, but of course it’s so worth it.  We got real comfortable with just one 6-year old who’s pretty self-sufficient and having a newborn hit pretty hard.

Prettiest Planners 2016

Prettiest Planners 2016

Raise your hand if one of your favorite parts of a new year is a new planner, organizer or calendar!  If you could see me now, I’d be the nerdy kid in the front row of the class with both hands raised! 😉 I have not one, but two planners already chosen for this year and I’m already getting started breaking one in.

As much as I live by the calendar on my iPhone for family, school and kid appointment/reminders , I still like writing in an old fashioned pretty paper planner for organizing blog and other personal stuff. I recently also got carried away with buying stickers for my planners and found the cutest ones on Etsy here

Slow Weekends & Busy Weekday Mornings

Slow Weekends & Busy Weekday Mornings

Thanks to Chinet® for sponsoring today’s post.

Now that school’s back in session and weekday mornings are busier than ever, we are definitely cherishing the slower paced weekends.  We’re fortunate to have a great neighborhood park nearby that we we can walk to.  It’s a perfect 10-15 minute walk and when the weather is cooler, getting outside in the fresh air is such a nice way to begin a Saturday morning.  With a cup of fresh brewed coffee of course!

How to Start A Blog on WordPress

How to Start A Blog on WordPress

I looked up this month and realized that I’ve been blogging consistently now for 5 years!  I can’t believe it’s been that long!  I started my blog to chronicle our first-home building journey and life along the way with a new baby.  Since that time, I’ve gone from full-time lawyer to work-at-home mom (if you consider blogging work), which I really don’t, although I do spend quite a bit of time on my blog.

Thinking back, I’ve learned so much along the way through friendships with other bloggers (essential), blog conferences (I’ll be heading to Haven this week!), reading and watching tutorials on everything from better photography to how to use the latest social media.

Summer Morning & Evening Routines

Summer Morning & Evening Routines

I mentioned yesterday in my Father’s Day Gift Guide post that we are already into our first official week of summer vacation, but I feel like it still hasn’t quite sunken in yet.  I’m still in “go-mode”, partly because I’ve got six weeks to go on my bikini contest prep, and also since we’ve not really settled into those long, lazy summer days yet.  I know they’re coming and I welcome them!!  It takes us awhile to get used to not having to be go, go, go . . .

Since I don’t want our summer to be stressed with rigid schedules,

Free 2015 Calendar Printables

We’ll be in 2015 before we know it, and I’m already needing a calendar to plan dates for next year.  I’m quite the calendar hog, often switching calendars mid-year because I can’t stick to just one design!  I’ve rounded up 10 super-cute FREE printable calendars that you can download and print straight from your home computer.  Since they don’t cost anything, feel free to change designs throughout the year, 😉

Inspiration for Blog Posts

Inspiration for Blog Posts

Like anyone who works in a creative field, we all get in ruts where inspiration is lacking and our creative juices aren’t flowing.  That was me a few weeks ago when I wanted to do some Fall decorating, but just wasn’t feeling it.  Luckily, decorating isn’t necessarily my “work” so I didn’t have to force myself to pull something together.  I could just wait a bit and then get to it.  But, if your work is dependent on you coming up with fresh ideas or if you’re a blogger, especially a ‘home’ or ‘diy’ blogger, coming up with creative content on a consistent basis can become overwhelming and difficult to maintain.

10 Steps to Better Blog Posts

10 Steps to Better Blog Posts

After over 4 years of blogging an average of 4 days a week (and a second blog to boot!), I’ve gotten into a groove with the process I go through when writing a blog post.  My method and hours have changed from the days when I blogged late-night after work from my couch, and now I blog pretty much exclusively from my bright home office while my son is in preschool.  I outlined my blogging process for you below and it breaks down to 10 steps that I generally follow every time I sit down to write a blog post.

Accomplishing Goals

Accomplishing Goals

Hi friends!  Not much new here on the home front as I’ve been busting it in the gym and with other commitments.  If you’ve been following along on my fitness journey, I just posted a Bikini Contest Prep- 4 Weeks Out Recap.  I “resolved” at the New Year to get in shape.  I had gained extra weight and wasn’t happy in my skin, and was tired of feeling slow and heavy.  I needed to get my groove and energy back.  Three months later, at age 39, I was preparing for a bikini fitness competition (a very old “bucket-list”

Our Summer Schedule & Useful Calendars

Our Summer Schedule & Useful Calendars

We had our LAST DAY OF SCHOOL! last Friday and it’s time to let the summertime fun roll!!!  🙂 Sort of.  I’ll be home this summer with my son, and as much as I’d love to just “go with the flow” each day, that doesn’t really work for us.  We pretty much do that on weekends and I cherish those days.  In fact, on Saturday we stayed in pj’s until 6pm when we had to get ready to attend a dance recital.  But, on the weekdays, there is still a lot going on, like PTO meetings, swim and karate lessons, my Dad’s doctor appointments,

Prepping for Weekday Mornings

Prepping for Weekday Mornings

I am not a morning person.  I love the idea of waking up early, before the rest of the house is awake, sitting quietly with a hot cup of coffee and enjoying the morning, then kicking into high gear, knocking out a bunch of things for the day.  On days when that has happened, I feel like I’ve done a whole day’s worth of work by noon.  But, in actuality, I’m the person who pushes snooze on her alarm clock (probably twice) most mornings.  My son is often my alarm as he jumps out of bed as soon as his eyes open around 6:30 a.m.

Toddler Chore Chart

Toddler Chore Chart

Recently, I’ve started teaching my just-turned-4-year old that unpacking his backpack after school is his “job.”  It is kind of a big job too because it means carrying the bulky bag in from the car, there is a snack bag and a lunch bag to unpack, with freezer bags to put into the freezer, plastic containers that go into the sink and sometimes trash to throw away.  Then, there is the folder that needs to be emptied.  Everything goes back into the backpack for the next day.  He often complains that he’s, “too busy” to unpack his backpack, but I tell him it’s his job and when he’s finished,

Living an Organized Life // The Master List

Living an Organized Life // The Master List

Whenever I’m asked, “How do you do it all?”  I always laugh and say, “I don’t!”  And then I want to ask you the same thing!  We wear so many hats these days, especially when we have kids to raise and take care of.  There are so many things to juggle in our lives- work (at home or outside), home room mom, sports mom, grocery shopper and meal preparer, chauffer, homework supervisor, all the while trying to have a life that may involve commitments with friends, church, fitness, caring for ailing family members, etc.

Whenever I get overwhelmed by life pulling me in different directions,
