Our Home Tour

Our home is our haven from the world, and there’s no place I’d rather be!  It’s a good thing too, because since 2010, when we built this place, I’ve been pouring over all the design and decor details, making it the perfect cozy home for us.  During the day you may see footballs flying through the air, toys strewn about the living room and beyond, and kitchen counters clutters with all.the.things!  But that’s real life and what makes a home with kids! I’m happy to welcome you in to our HOME TOUR, and of course I cleaned up for you! ;)

How was your weekend friends?!  Mine started and ended with some much needed girl time where we got together to celebrate one of my closest girlfriend’s birthday.  Although we really blew it out last year for her 40th in Las Vegas, this year was low key but so nice with a beautiful outdoor lunch Friday at Backstreet Cafe and then a dinner on Sunday at Salt Air- two great restaurants to try if you ever get to Houston.  Sometimes I get so busy with my day-to-day life and responsibilities that it’s hard to carve out that friend time.  But, it’s so necessary.

James’ Colorful Big Boy Room

James’ Colorful Big Boy Room

I’m starting this week off feeling thankful for the things I so often take for granted like cold air conditioning and hot water since we had issues with both last week.  After a week of showering at the gym, a hot shower in our own home to get squeaky clean felt so good!  And although the air wasn’t out completely (thank God), the issue has been fixed and now all the areas of our home are comfortable again in this 100-plus degree heat.  Houston is in the midst of a boiling hot summer and we won’t be getting relief any time soon,

How was your weekend friends?  Ours was a full one.  We celebrated my husband’s birthday on Friday with a fancy family dinner out and then back to the house for a homemade chocolate cake with chocolate icing.  Then, on Saturday, we had our school’s fundraising Gala and it was so much fun!  I jokingly call it Prom for Adults because everyone gets all gussied up- women in gowns and men in tuxes or suits – and it’s exciting to see how everyone cleans up.  My dress was on sale and has sold out online.  And I have to say this self-tanning spray rocks!

Spring Living Room

Spring Living Room

Now that we’re into February and I’m down to the last two of my Top 10 organization challenges, I’m itching to get back to decor and interiors and new ideas on that front.  Our living room has evolved over the years and right now it’s got some Spring touches happening that I wanted to share with y’all. This is the place we spend so much time, watching tv, having friends over, playing games and my son with all of his toys.  Even though we’ve cleaned and organized James’ playroom, he still likes to be down here with us most of the time.

Dining Room Updates

Dining Room Updates

Happy Monday friends!  Did you have a good weekend?  Ours was pretty laid back, but we did manage to put some finishing touches on our dining room after recently painting the walls Sherwin Williams Comfort Grey (lightened 75%).  I hemmed and hung the drapes back up, added new mirrors to the wall, and shopped my house for some aqua and green summery decor items.

The back wall of the dining room is really long, so I wanted to switch out our previous smaller rectangular mirror for giant round mirror.  All of the round mirrors I sourced online were more than I wanted to spend,

Home Decor Progress After 4 Years

Home Decor Progress After 4 Years

Sharing my home office on Monday made me stop to reflect on how far we’ve come with the decor in our home in other rooms as well in the past 4 years.  We moved into our home in July 2010 and through my blog archives, I found a post I wrote on July 15, 2010 that showed all the rooms in our house as we were just about to move in.  I specifically remember how excited I was to be moving our family from a dark, small townhouse to a bright, spacious home.  Our son was just 4 months old and it was a dreamy time.We started pretty much from scratch with everything in this house as far as furniture and decor goes and I have learned so much over the years about my style and what I like.

Black and White Home Office

Black and White Home Office

I’ve s-l-o-w-l-y been redecorating my home office into a space that most reflects my current design style.  I am very thankful and fortunate to have a room to call my own where I can blog, answer emails, make schedules, craft, write letters, and wrap gifts.  I have enjoyed having this room to retreat to, but something felt “off” with the decor and it was never quite right, but it’s much better now.  🙂 I wanted to transform the office into a more sophisticated space and I think the black and white accomplishes that.  I still have punchy pops of color, just in smaller doses.

Our Breakfast Room

Our Breakfast Room

A few changes in our breakfast room has given it a whole new look.  We spend a lot of time here eating meals, hanging out, and my son plays and does projects on the table.  It is often a mess, but I try to clean it like this at the end of each day.  I remember so well when we first moved in and didn’t have anything in this space for a long time, except a rug, then after about 3 months, decided on the table and benches.  Six months after that came the drapes (I picked out the fabric and had them sewn).
