Less is definitely more around here lately and if you find yourself in the same boat, where energy is at a premium, you choose carefully where to spend it. I mentioned yesterday I’ve been itching to get back to more home decor and DIY projects, so our master sitting room was a perfect place to bring in a few summer touches. I lightened up the space with a touch of paint that we had on hand and changed out the accessories for the summery variety. It’s not a dramatic DIY, but it’s perfect for a fresh change with minimal effort.View Post
Decorate and redecorate because it’s always a work in progress and never really done!
I almost started this post with Happy Hump Day! then I realized it’s actually Thursday, which tells me that I’m getting a case of summer brain where all the days are starting to run together. That might actually be a good thing! I’m just starting feel the stress of a rigid schedule beginning to loose it’s grip. Today, my son and I overslept for camp, but I realized, we don’t have to be there on the dot. And since I didn’t have a morning training session scheduled, we were able to linger this morning. Nice for a change! We do still have our typical summer morning and evening routines,View Post
I think we’re finally starting to dry out over here! All those days of tragic weather and storms had our city reeling for awhile, but we’re getting back to normal now. And tomorrow is the last day of school! My son came home with the big workbook he’s been practicing his handwriting in all year and declared triumphantly, “I’ve worked so hard Mom, I’m ready for kindergarten!” Man, what a cutie!
I’m having so much fun with this HWH Loves Bloggers series (#HWHlovesbloggers) and I plan to continue it for a while longer! There’s so much decor inspiration to share and I hope you are finding new bloggers and instagrammers to follow.View Post

For the past several months, our family made a point to get together at my parents’ house for dinner most weekends. It was nothing fancy, and sometimes we just ordered a couple of pizzas, but the point was to spend quality time together. We let the kids run around and play in the backyard and the adults just chatted and hung out for a few hours. We are continuing to do our weekend dinners, but now we’ll start alternating houses between ours, my brother’s, and my mom’s. I wanted to make the next dinner at our house light and lively and found some perfect Spring table accessories at World Market to help set the mood.View Post
This weekend was filled to the brim celebrating our now 5-year old! I know all parents feel this way, but we are just so proud of him and delighting in the person he is becoming. Since I stay home, I’m grateful to have lots of time spent with him and made sure to include him on every decision for his party, down to the favor gifts he’d give to his friends that came to his party. I love getting his input and hearing his opinion on things. And who knows better what gifts other 5-year olds would enjoy than another 5 year old?!View Post
With school starting next week, I wanted to set up a place for my son to draw, color, practice writing, or do art. Sure, we can use the kitchen table or counter (and often do), but it would also be nice for him to have an area that doesn’t have to be “picked up” come dinner time. Decor speaking, I wanted to add a pop of RED to his navy, light blue, and white room, and I found the perfect desk for the job. Have y’all seen this World Market Red Josephine Desk before? It’s white version is popular in many home offices I’ve seen online,View Post
Last week, when World Market was having their big, annual Friends & Family sale, I stopped in and picked up a few things. I was immediately drawn to their colorful selection of outdoor entertaining goodies, like melamine plates and plastic cups. I use melamine plates daily for my protein pancakes, so a few more wouldn’t hurt, and they’re really affordable. I played around with pre-setting a colorful Spring table that I intend to use when I have some girlfriends over for lunch soon.

I have spent several hours rearranging and reorganizing my closet over the last few weeks. I consider myself fortunate to have a large closet, so I want the space to be useful and look nice. As I surveyed the area to create organizing solutions, I realized just how much stuff I have (clothing, shoes, jewelry, bags). Over the years, I have pared down and donated much of what I wasn’t wearing anymore, but I also purchased more jewelry as a Stella & Dot stylist, thus adding to my collection.
At the same time, however, I’m really drawn to articlesView Post
The wing chair in our master sitting room found a mate! It’s a match made in heaven. I was so pleased with the first chair- the cream color, shape, nailhead trim, and price that I wanted to add a second one. The chair is pretty comfy, although we don’t sit in here super often, maybe just when my hubby is hogging the t.v. downstairs!
Styling spaces and photographing them is one of my favorite hobbies.View Post
Kitchen counters that are devoid of any useful items, and have on them only a bowl of perfectly ripe oranges and a vase of colorful hydrangeas are certainly gorgeous, but I’ve found that having completely clean and clear kitchen counters is unrealistic in my house. There is stuff we need to use in our everyday lives that is simply more convenient to keep out on the countertops.
The clutter and ugliness of it all does get to me sometimes and I feel like I’m always seeking a way to streamline the messy counters. In an effort to really pare down,View Post
How good do you feel when you score a really great item at an affordable price? And when that item is a piece of furniture purchased over the Internet, without the benefit of an in-person inspection, isn’t it even better? I feel that way about a wingback chair I found a few months ago. It works perfectly in our master sitting area and is actually pretty comfy.
Year after year, as we decorate our homes for the changing seasons, we learn more about our style and perhaps ourselves. What do we want our homes to say, what feeling do we want to convey? If you’re a funky and colorful type of person, I bet your home reflects that. Are you more modern or traditional? I’m sure those elements creep into your home design too. I keep coming back to inviting and simple decor. I lean toward uncomplicated spaces with a coziness to them. I tried to accomplish that with the addition of some Fall decor in our dining room- not that we’re seeing anything near Fall temperatures here in Houston.View Post
First things first, wishing my parents a very happy anniversary today! Thank you for your prayers for my dad, we have had some encouraging news lately and it has felt so good. This illness has really brought us closer together and for that, I’m thankful. It has been a very difficult time, but I believe in the power of prayer, and from the bottom of my heart thank you for lifting my dad and family up.
You might remember my dining room pillow dilemma awhile back when I bought a yellow pair and a brown pair and couldn’t decide which I liked better for the room.View Post
Thank you for weighing in on the dining room pillow dilemma yesterday! I love hearing your opinions and I’m liking the suggestion of using the yellow for now since it’s summertime, and using the brown come fall. I plan to style the table soon and show you how it turned out.
Today, I’m turning my attention to the area just next to the dining room- the butler’s pantry, and specifically, the bar. I’m a big fan of bar carts and bar styling, but have never really “styled” our bar area until recently. It’s fun to play around with the different bottles and accessories and see how it looks.View Post
One of my favorite stylists and graphic designers, Fabulous K, created a very cool snakeskin frame by wrapping an inexpensive wooden frame with “Pretty Snakey” duct tape. So cute! You can find the duct tape at Target for just a couple dollars.
I took the idea in another direction and made a mouse pad for my desk and a tray for my bedroom. I simply covered each item with the tape- easy peasy!
Thanks for the inspiration Kelly!View Post
