Our New Home Tour & Future Decor Plans

One of my biggest life changes in 2022 was moving into this new house. I still very much liked our old house, but when this new home appeared on the market and I saw it for the first time, I felt like we belonged there.

The kids were with me when we first toured it and after being inside for just 20 minutes, my inner voice declared out loud, I think this is our house.  I could totally picture us living there.

Wow.

It was a big leap of faith, considering my old house wasn’t even on the market.  I got to work staging my home to sell and was blessed to have multiple offers in just two days!  Thank you LORD!

In less than 3 weeks, I had sold my old house and was living in our new home!

I’ve come full circle after my divorce and have a real fresh start with something I am making my own.

It took some time to not feel like a guest here, but now we’ve fully settled in and we will have lived here for a year in March.

C’mon in and let me show you around!  At the end of this post, I’ll share our future decor plans!

OUR NEW HOME TOUR

Kitchen Tour

The day I moved in, I had the kitchen and pantry mostly unpacked and put away.  I knew I wouldn’t be able to live and function properly with a packed kitchen, so I hustled and stayed up all night unpacking and putting things away.  Of course, from there it took awhile to get everything organized and situated how I like it.

Now, it’s very well organized and runs super smoothly.

I could never have designed this myself, but I love how they did!  The fridge and dishwasher are cabinet front and blend seamlessly with the rest of the cabinets.

The color of the cabinets is Magnetic Grey by Sherwin Williams.

The wall color is Sherwin Williams Alabaster in flat and the trim is Sherwin Williams Pure White in satin.

I also love all the light fixtures that were already here – everything is from M&M Lighting in Houston.

The light hardwood floors are Palladio Wide Plank in color “white wash”.  I had dark bamboo floors in my old house and they were very hard to keep clean.

Kitchen Tour

One of the things I appreciate about our kitchen is the design and layout.  It’s so bright with lots of natural light from the many big windows and feels so open.  *I use the e-cloths to keep the windows sparkling clean and streak free.

The sink is nice and deep and came with the protective grate.

Bottom Shelf: Marble Pedestal Bowl • Black Beads • Similar Mini Potted Plant • Candle • Faux Tulips • Rattan Vase • Bunny Cake Stand

Counter: Black Vase • Pot • Plant • Faux Artichokes • Large Black Bowl

I really like how the kitchen is open to the dining room, even though we “lost” a formal dining room.  I feel like this layout is a really good use of space.  And I love the thick open wooden shelving!

The builders also included some very smart organization solutions.  Things like a divided place for long things like sheet pans and cutting boards.

There is also a pull out drawer for tall appliances like my kitchen aid mixer and Vitamix blender.

There’s a narrow pullout cabinet that’s handy for keeping spices nearby where I cook, and also wide drawers for utility and more.

I opened up every drawer and cabinet in this post if you want to see more details, including how I store and organize everything.

Pantry Tour

I was absolutely floored by this pantry when I saw it for the first time!  First of all, the ceilings are super high and the shelving goes all the way up. The builders were clever to include a ladder and gorgeous ladder rails for reaching the (adjustable!) shelves.

The storage is so functional in here with deep shelves at the bottom, plus huge pull out drawers.

There’s literally a place for everything.  I’m able to store our food, but also things like serving platters, cookbooks and seasonal decor.

In this post, I share every nook and cranny of the pantry.  I hope it gives you some storage and organization ideas for your own home.

Living Room Tour

We spend lots of time in our living room and I really do enjoy this open floor plan, as long as I keep things tidy.

I was so happy and relieved to realize that our sectional fit the space perfectly. It’s the Pottery Barn Pearce Sectional in ‘performance heathered tweed ivory’. It seems like the link keeps breaking, but you can search it on their site if the link doesn’t work.

I recently switched out this Coffee Table for this round one and really like it.  It’s easier to manuver around and I like how the round shape contrasts with all the sharp angles in this room.

The fireplace was especially cozy during the freezing cold days in December.  It’s warmer now, but I’m hoping we get another shot of cold weather in January and February so we can use it again!

Another cool feature is the TV wall mount that was already here when we moved in.  It’s a mantel mount that allows you to effortlessly pull the TV down to eye level.  And it also swivels!  We always watch it pulled down so we don’t have to strain our necks.

I’m also thankful for this extra storage and how it’s hidden behind these decorate mesh panels.  We store games, puzzles, art supplies, books and candles inside.

I tried to include as many links as I could, but here are some of the decor pieces in one handy collage for you!

Home Office Tour

Y’all!  This large open space is one of the things that sold me on this space! Although it was probably designed for a play room or additional family room, since I work from home, I envisioned it right away as my home office!

I mean just look at that grand shiplap arched ceiling and chandelier! Not to mention the big windows!  Totally smitten!!

I was able to fit my old breakfast table in here and now it acts as an additional work surface – or- place where Kitty likes to sleep in a basket.

Here is where you can find me many hours a day, planning my schedule, working away on my blog, and collaborating with Rhonda, one of my closest friends and work wife.

These gold bookcases flank the chest that holds most of my office supplies.  I keep the styling pretty minimal, but also functional.  There’s stationary and gift wrapping things like ribbon in those fabric boxes and planning supplies in the acrylic organizer.

That large wooden tray is my “Sunday Basket” and contains all the loose papers, reminders, and to-do’s that pile up during the week.  It’s a visual reminder of things I need to take care of and I try to carve out a chunk of time on a Sunday to tie up all those loose ends.  It feels great to head into a new week with all those things already accomplished!

Back Patio Tour

This patio is sooooo nice with just enough space for our family, plus Luke!

I currently have our round table that used to live under our staircase here, but it’s a wooden indoor table and hasn’t held up too well to the outdoor elements.  I’ll hopefully replace it soon, but in the meantime, the bistro chairs are still going strong.

We have grilled outside a few times and it’s very cool having a little outdoor fridge and sink too!

The backyard is lined with privacy trees which does make it feel much more private.  I also really like how the back fence is painted black.  The contrast looks so good even from inside.

Similar Watering Can

We spend a good bit of time in our backyard.  Jordan has a little pool in the summer, we play soccer (Santa just brought this goal) and football, plus Luke loves to run around back here.

Puppy Update

Magnolia Tree

Our front yard was lacking a tree when we moved in and it left me feeling kinda exposed and like something was missing.  I went looking for a tree and found a gorgeous, mature magnolia tree and had it planted in the yard.  The whole process was really amazing to see it go in.  I feel like it really completes the look of the house and it’s beautiful to see from my front porch and office window.

You can watch a video of the Magnolia Tree being chosen and installed, with a Q&A on my Instagram Story Highlights.

Holiday Home Tour

It was super fun to decorate the new house for the holidays.  Lots of things that didn’t fit or we weren’t using got donated and I ended up loving how the decor looked so fresh in our new home.

Tree • Similar Tree Skirt

I think my bedroom was one of my favorite holiday spots.  I always like having a Christmas tree in the bedroom, it’s so cozy and relaxing at night.

COMING UP

I’m very happy that most of the decor from our old house fit nicely and works here.  I just ordered this black console table for behind our couch and this textured art for our foyer.  Unfortunately, the table isn’t expected to arrive until late March. The art should be here in early February.

Next on the decorating agenda is finding a piece of art or possibly wallpaper for behind my bed so I can share the full primary bedroom with you.

In the backyard, I’d like to find another table or possibly a small sofa and make it into a better seating area.

I am ready to share the primary bathroom and closet (but I’d like to add a chandelier), and laundry room with you soon!

  1. Can’t wait to see your closet and laundry room! And hopefully mudroom soon too? 🙂 I know your old house had a playroom with larger items like a play kitchen. Since it seems like this house has fewer rooms, do your kids just keep all their toys in their rooms?

    1. Well, James has taken over the “office” and Jordan has a play table off the kitchen that she likes to play at. She also has toys in the living room cabinets. Also, her room is really big and has a hallway into it, so lots of space for her kitchen, desk, dresser, bed, bookshelf and nightstand to fit comfortably.

  2. I’m doing a decluttering challenge and both the laundry room and the closet are coming up, so I’d love to see yours for inspiration!

How do you like the flat paint on your walls? Is that what you had in your prior house? My contractor did it for my kitchen renovation, but I’ve always been a satin girl, so not sure I love it…

    1. I like the flat paint everywhere, besides our entryway. Those are the walls that tend to get scuffed up the most and I can easily clean with magic eraser, but you can tell where I wiped. Everywhere else, it’s doing great! Looks very fresh!

  3. I’m afraid I’ve not read blogs for a while but somehow my feed here (in Australia, they cut out Bloglovin viewing here for some reason) was reinstated in my email and it was great to see a post from you. Your new home looks incredible and you’ve styled it to perfection as always. Glad to see you are happy in the new home.
