Cozumel Trip Recap

Hi friend!  Welcome to a brand new week!  I think this is the first week that will feel semi “normal” since finding a new house, moving in, and then taking a trip to Cozumel.  I’m a creature of habit by nature, and it feels good to get back into a routine.  I haven’t worked out in forever, so I’m really happy to get that going again this week!

Today, I’m recapping our trip to Cozumel and sharing where we stayed, what we did and what I wore.  It might not be that exciting of a post because we honestly didn’t do much!

But sometimes that’s just what the doctor ordered.  And if you’re going to be laying around relaxing, what a gorgeous backdrop to get to do that in!

COZUMEL TRIP RECAP

Brian and I booked this trip back in January, long before I realized I’d be moving and selling my old house.  We contemplated cancelling because there was so much going on at home, but I’m really glad we kept it on the books.

It was a four night trip and we stayed at the InterContinental Presidente Cozumel Hotel.  Cozumel is a quick 2-hour flight from Houston, and we arrived in the late afternoon.

It gave us just enough time to drop our bags, change clothes, explore the property a bit and then head to dinner.

There are four restaurants on the property serving Italian, Seafood, Mediterranean & Sushi, and the casual pool bar that served a beautiful breakfast buffet with made-to-order omelets daily.

We ate at the Mediterranean restaurant the first night and it was lovely to dine outside, overlooking the ocean as the sun set.  We both got poke bowls, mine with salmon and his with tuna.

INTERCONTINENTAL HOTEL

The weather this time of year in Cozumel couldn’t be better.  It was partly cloudy the first day, but mostly sunny the rest of our stay.  It was a comfortable warm 85 degrees during the day and so enjoyable to be outside.

The property has one main pool (and a second, smaller pool), that attaches to a private beach and offers beach lounge chairs and cabanas.  You can also rent scuba and snorkel gear at the hotel and we did snorkel a little bit one afternoon.

There are 218 guest rooms and it’s both pet and family friendly.  We didn’t see any animals, but being Spring Break, there were lots of cute kiddos.

On our first full day in Cozumel, we rented a cabana bed by the pool for $100 US dollars, which includes $50 in food/drinks, so it’s a great deal and well worth it.  We literally just chilled and ate and read and met a few other guests that we chatted with.

We ate outside at the Italian restaurant the first night.  The restaurant isn’t all inclusive, but the prices are pretty reasonable.  I will say the food at all of the restaurants was good, but not spectacular.  We did find an off-property restaurant to rave about though!  More on that below!

DAY 2

Dunder Mifflin Tee IYKYN

You can rent a scooter for $35 for 24 hours, so we did that the second day.  It was a little scary at first because these scooters are fast and travel on the same roads as regular cars and taxis.

But, I got used to it and the only problem I had was that my legs were so sweaty!  I wish I had brought a towel to sit on.

LUNCH AT Kooben Laab

I found a restaurant that had amazing reviews for their homemade pasta, so we popped in there for lunch.

Kooben Laab is a hidden gem serving  fresh Italian food made with local ingredients.  We might have passed right by it if we hadn’t been looking for it because the outside is tiny and nondescript.

You head upstairs to a partially outdoor dining area that is equal parts quaint and authentic.

It’s cool how they do the menu because you get to choose your style of homemade pasta, and then the sauce to accompany it.

We started off with the complimentary bread, which I usually skip, but this bread smelled so amazing I couldn’t resist!  It was so good with a crisp cheesy top.

Then we shared the mussels in garlic sauce that was served with homemade sourdough toast, perfect for soaking up that delicious juice!

And we split the carbonara with a poached egg on top.  It was so creamy and satisfying, but isn’t made with any actual cream.

You know I wasn’t leaving without trying the tiramisu, one of the best I’ve ever had AND it had a chocolate crust!  Almost too good to be true.

I can’t recall the amount exactly, but I remember being shocked at how little our bill was!  For all that delicious food!

We popped in at lunch without a reservation, but the restaurant doesn’t have many tables, so it would be a good idea to get a reservation if you plan to go for dinner.

BOB MARLEY BAR

You can explore the whole island of Cozumel by scooter in under an hour, and Brian recalled going to the Bob Marley bar on a college scuba trip, so we stopped in there too.  It’s a dive bar that serves food and drinks, but we just got waters and headed down to the beach.

I should have snapped a pic of where we wrote our names in black marker at the bar.  It’s customary to do that there, so if you go and see “MEGAN + BRIAN 3/22”, let me know!

The beaches there are indescribably beautiful.  I could honest sit for hours and watch the waves roll in.  The sound alone is so relaxing.

By the afternoon, I was ready to get off the scooter, but I didn’t mind holding onto Brian for the ride;)

Back to the pool for some afternoon lounging!

Dinner that night was at the seafood restaurant and I wore this little blue eyelet dress.  Super flirty and fun with the ruffles and easy to wear silhouette.

DAY 3

On the morning of our third day, we got couples massages at the spa and then lounged by the pool.

That afternoon we snorkeled for a little while too.

LAST MORNING IN COZUMEL

Ahh, it’s always bittersweet to say goodbye, but we were both ready to get home too.  I always miss my kids when I travel, but we facetime everyday. ♥

One more plate of nachos before we go!  That was probably my favorite meal at the hotel! I think I ordered it everyday for lunch.

Passport Book

This little passport book was so handy throughout the trip and definitely while we were in the airport.   It holds your ID as well, with additional card and cash slots, plus a pen loop and place for sim cards.  The flap is magnetic and stays closed.  I’m super happy with this nifty purchase and got the black one for Brian!

Juicy Lip

This is the lip color I wore the whole trip.  It’s incredibly juicy and moisturizing on your lips, with the perfect punch of color.

Clear BagsSunscreen

These clear bags are so handy!  We have them in three sizes and they’re perfect for taking to the beach and pool, holding snacks, sunscreen, wallet, sunglasses and more. They’re nice and sturdy and the largest one has convenient handles for carrying.

We came home to tons of rain, but this weekend Houston had gorgeous weather, so that made up for it!

We had a really good time, but both agreed that we preferred Excellence Playa Mujeres and would go back there again.  If you’re considering it, we highly recommend it!  You can read my recap of that trip here.

Now let’s go kick Monday’s booty!

  1. Your trip looks amazing! We leave for Cancun on Wednesday and I was wondering if you wanted a jacket in the evenings or were you just fine in your dresses (which are so cute, BTW!!)

  2. Why did you prefer the Cancun resort to the Cozumel resort? Better amenities or beach or restaurants? Just curious 🙂
