Healthy Game Day Snacks

Thank you to Walmart+ for sponsoring today’s post

Hi friend! Are you looking forward to the big game?  Even if you’re not huge into sports, it’s still fun to watch the players take the field, and get in on the collective excitement!  I like to see the new commercials and of course, the halftime show.

Do you have plans for Sunday?  We’ll be keeping it low key, watching at home with Brian and the kids.

I’m still on my fitness challenge (it’s a marathon, not a sprint), so I thought it would be helpful to share some healthy (or healthier) game day snack options.

On the menu is Caprese Skewers, Buffalo Cauliflower Bites, and Asian Style Air Fryer Chicken Wings.  Is your mouth watering already?!

Caprese Skewers

This one is a no-brainer, delightfully fresh and no cooking involved.  All you have to do is assemble the skewers and you’re good to go!

Ingredients

Instructions

Simply place the mozzarella ball, piece of fresh basil, and tomato on a toothpick. You can half the tomatoes if they seem too big.

Drizzle with balsamic vinegar to up the flavor.

These are best enjoyed in one bite.

Have you made these before?  They’re so easy to put together and whenever we have a party, they’re always gone by the end.

It’s good to get the kids involved in the kitchen.  My son James helped me here and the benefit is quality together time, teaching him how to prepare food, and getting him used to different kinds of dishes.

He’s such a good sport, loves it when it comes to cutting and chopping, and is also helpful at bringing in the groceries from our Walmart+ delivery.  He picks up from the front door, helps me unload, and I usually arrange the food in the refrigerator.

Plates

I highly recommend using the Walmart+ membership to order your groceries online and have them delivered to your door for free ($35 order min. Restrictions apply)

With Walmart+, you can: (1) shop online and get Walmart+ FREE shipping, with no order minimum on items from Walmart.com (excludes most Marketplace items, location & freight surcharges); (2) get items delivered from your store to your door for FREE ($35 minimum, restrictions apply); (3) shop inside the store with the mobile scan & go benefit in the Walmart app for a contact free checkout; and (4) get member prices on fuel.

You can sign up for Walmart+ HERE.

I’ve been ordering my groceries online and it keeps me from making those impulse purchases that tend to happen when you’re inside the store.

If you do head to the store, you can take advantage of the mobile scan & go benefit you can access with your Walmart+ membership.  It’s a contact-free checkout process that saves you so much time!

You can shop in the store, open the Walmart app, go to the menu and select your Walmart+ account.  You tap “mobile scan & go” to get started.

Then, as you’re shopping, you scan each item, and when you’re ready to pay, scan the code at self-checkout and pay with your phone.

Buffalo Cauliflower Bites

Lots of people enjoy buffalo wings during football season, but buffalo cauliflower bites have that same zesty kick, but with a veggie instead.   These are also air fried, as opposed to deep fried, which cuts down the fat and grease.

Ingredients

Instructions

Cut the cauliflower into large florets and place them in a large mixing bowl.

In a separate bowl, mix the hot sauce and melted butter.

Pour the hot sauce mixture over the cauliflower florets and mix well.

Let the mixture marinate for about 15 minutes, stirring a couple of times.

Place the panko bread crumbs in a ziplock bag and add cauliflower. Shake to coat well.

Place the cauliflower onto the airfryer baking tray, making sure not to lay them on top of each other.  I like to cook this recipe in 2 batches so as not to overcrowd the cauliflower.

Set your airfryer to 400 degrees and cook for 12-15 minutes.

Serve with ranch/blue cheese dressing and carrot/celery sticks.

ASIAN STYLE AIR FRYER CHICKEN WINGS

Ingredients

For the Glaze

Instructions

Season the chicken wings with the salt, pepper, and garlic powder.

Arrange the chicken wings in an air fryer in a single layer and spray with cooking spray.

Set air fryer to and air fry for 10 minutes at 400 degrees and cook for 10 minutes.

Flip and cook for 8-10 minutes longer. You might have to cook a few batches depending on the size of your air fryer.

While the wings are cooking, combine the soy sauce, honey, grated ginger, garlic, butter, dried chili flakes in a small saucepan and bring to a boil.  Simmer while stirring until thick and syrupy.

Take the wings out of the air fryer and put them in a large mixing bowl or large ziplock bag.  Pour the sauce all over the wings and toss to coat.

Alternatively, you can brush the sauce on the wings.

Serve sprinkled with sliced green onion and sesame seeds.

Plates

All of these dishes turned out very yummy and they were simple to make.  That’s my kind of cooking!

Even if you don’t feel like cooking on game day, you can still use your Walmart+ membership to get ready make snacks delivered to your door! We also had Doritos the day I took these pics and you know those went fast!
