My New Home Decor PLUS New Target & Walmart Decor Finds

New year, new home refresh!  I love playing around with styling things in my home and also seeing what’s new in the stores.  I like to get inspiration by browsing in the store and online and also thinking about how I can move existing things around in my house to create a fresh look.

In today’s post, I’m sharing how I’ve been restyling the spaces in my home.  There’s some new shelf styling in the living room and kitchen, I changed out the decor on my coffee table and foyer, and switched up things in the sitting room.

I’m also giving you a look at what’s new at Target and Walmart – some very cute things at reasonable prices!

OUR NEW HOME DECOR

FOYER

Our foyer is visible from nearly every view of the house, so I like to keep it clean, simple and pretty.  I usually just have a round table and single vase with faux flowers.  I don’t know why I never experimented with layering more things before, but I’m liking the look.

Because this space is tall, open all the way up to the second floor, I like the vase and flowers to have height.  The black vase is new from Pottery Barn, my attempt at adding more contrast to the white I like to have in our home.

You can also move your decor pieces from room to room.  That marble pedestal bowl has held fruit in the kitchen, jewelry in my closet and bath products in my bathroom.  I like the added height it adds here, holding decorative black beads.

I also added a pair of gold candlesticks that I’ve had forever, but usually reserve for holiday table scapes.  Isn’t it funny how we tend to think some things go with one certain thing or belong in one certain place?  A change in mindset is often all it takes to achieve a new look.

Speaking of moving things around, the Faux Berry Blossoms were on my console table during the holidays, and I’m still embracing the wintery decor a while longer.  They’re now in the foyer next to a stone bowl I picked up at my friend’s shop.

That bowl is an unique find, but a stand of Target beads add the finishing touch.

I also love decorating with books and Minimalista is the first book I read in 2022.  I’ve committed to reading daily and to make it a habit, I do it first thing in the morning.  I wake up, come downstairs, make my coffee and sit down my my book and read.  Jordan has been waking up while I’m still reading and now she’ll pull up a book beside me.  It’s a lovely way to start the day!

Since we have a fabric ottoman, I like having a large tray to corral everything and make it look more cohesive.  I ordered this custom tray from Etsy and I love supporting Labrador Designs small shop.  They’re now making round trays too if you’re interested.

Changing out my living room lamps made a big statement in the room.  It been a bit of musical lamps lately.  My previous lamps moved to the guest room, so I bought this grey pair for the living room.

But, they felt too small for the space and I knew I should have bought the ones I had my eye on at first.  I didn’t buy them initially because they were quite expensive, but I ended up costing myself more money in the long run by buying the smaller ones that I ended up replacing anyway!

Those grey lamps are now in Jordan’s playroom, so I guess it’s not a total loss!

I must say, I LOVE the new larger Terra Cotta lamps!  They are gorgeous and substantial and I love the material and how it adds another layer of dimension to the room.

They come with the straight white lampshade and a a bronze finial.

I’ve also been trying to restyle my shelves in a neutral, cohesive way.  I’ve brought in decorative items throughout the house like bowls, objects, faux plants and books and just kept messing with it.

If you’re drawn to certain colors, when you decorate with books, you could keep them all in the same color family.  I’m into neutral books and like to remove the jackets to display their beautiful hardcovers.

Target has lots of affordable vases right now and many of mine are from their.  I look for different shapes, heights, textures and of course, neutral colors.

Sometimes people ask if my console table is the one from World Market because that one doesn’t come with pulls.  It is the one from World Market- I’ve had it for years and just added the pulls!  It gives it a more elevated vibe I think. And you can choose whatever style pulls you like.  We don’t even have anything in the drawers, so they’re just decorative.

I’m loving the Olive Branches from Amazon.  They looks so realistic and come in a set of 3.  I’m sure I’ll be moving them around the house from room to room throughout the year.

In the kitchen, I’m so happy to be displaying the vintage cutting board (similar) I got at Courtney’s shop.  I had been wanting something like that to warm up our kitchen and give it that rustic vibe, and I saw this one with little flecks of green in it and was sold!

I picked up a concrete crock at Homegoods for our wooden spoons and nestled them inside a round woven tray (trays always!) and even have a mini cutting board in there that I think is so cute!  The Wooden/Gold Measuring Cups and spoons! are as decorative as they are functional, so why not display them?!

They’re back in stock in limited quantities after being sold out forever if you’ve been wanting them!

You might recall my kitchen cabinets with only white ceramic pitchers, which was pretty for awhile (more like years), so I was happy to start switching things up.

The bottom shelves hold bowls I use daily.  Maybe not always the wooden ones, but those are great for big salads.  The large white bowls and spotted bowls we do use often though.

I tried to balance out the large wooden shapes with alternative white/cream vases/bowls and decorative objects.  I am liking how it looks and think it ties in nicely with what we’ve got going on in the living room.

Sitting Room Chairs and side Table

In my sitting room, I’ve added yet another new lamp- again from Target.  I bought one because I was thinking of switching out my nightstand lamps.  I’ve had those for several years now, and you can’t tell from far away, but the marble is chipped on them and it’s always bugged me.

This new white lamp was ‘too white’ for next to the bed, but I thought it looked pretty good in here!  Add in a few pretty pale pink books, a decorative chain and some linen boxes and I’d call it styled!

You might also notice that I stole Jordan’s playroom rug.  Yep, I was missing having a rug in here, so I brought that one up to see how it would look and ended up really liking it.  So much so, that I ordered a second larger rug for under my bed!

And guess what? The rug in the sitting room was just a little bit too long for the space, so I folded it over on one end.  Trying to make existing things work!

Have you been excited about the new things you’re seeing?  Do you have any decor projects planned for this year?

I’ve mentioned our mudroom is underway and I have some sneak peeks on Stories.  The cabinet doors should be installed by the weekend and then I need to have Ruben come paint and finally, order and install the pulls.  I’m still deciding on what style and color I should go with.

Have a fantastic day friend!  See you back here tomorrow with a huge dressing room haul!

  1. I just adore all the changes you made—my favorite would be your round entry table with the large black vase! Thanks for all the links!!

  2. Thank you for your recent decor content. Your home looks lovely, and it is nice to see a home decorated with items that the general public can access on their own within a reasonable budget. Where did you get the brass/gold floor lamp between you built in shelves and your leather armchair? I have been looking for a floor lamp like that for a reading area next to an armchair in my home. Thanks!
