Shows to Binge During Christmas Break

Hi friend!  Thank you for all the love on our Holiday Home Tour! It’s lovely to be on Christmas break and enjoying the house all decorated, especially the Christmas tree and twinkle lights at night- that’s my favorite part.

And, in true holiday fashion, I’ve already been enjoying all the sweet treats and have eaten my weight in toffee! I can’t put it down!

Today, I’m sharing some of my favorite shows, since you might find yourself with down time to sit and binge watch a few over Christmas break.

It’s funny because I’m not much of a TV watcher, but my boyfriend is, so he turned me on to several of these shows.

And, Rhonda added some of her faves too, since she and her hubby often sit down for wine and television to relax in the evening.

SHOWS TO BINGE

Mad Men – My all-time favorite show and I often have it on in the background while I’m working away at my computer.  I can’t count how many times I’ve seen it, but everything from the 50-60’s era is spot on, the storylines draw you in and let’s just say, I could stare at Jon Hamm all day!

Schitt’s Creek – Who knew this hilarious show would end up with so much heart?!  I binge watched it with Brian in about two weeks!

Breaking Bad – I got totally sucked into this and Ozark because of Brian too. Both are harsh and violent, but with characters and storylines that hook you from the first episode.

This Is Us – We’re late to the game on this one, but I’m loving it and currently on Season 2.  It’s heartwarming and I love how they switch back and forth between the past and present.

Maid – I was so on the Mom’s side in this one, pulling and praying for her!

Queen’s Gambit – I loved how this was filmed and the subject matter is unique.  It follows the story of an orphan who learns the game of Chess and becomes one of the best players in the world.

Girlfriend’s Guide to Divorce – This show is full of style and friendships navigating relationships, work and kids.

House of Cards – This is an old one, and I never watched the final season, but was really into it before that.  Especially the first season.  It’s about ambition and politics and really keeps you guessing.

Get Organized with the Home Edit | Tidying Up with Marie Kondo | Sparking Joy with Marie Kondo – all of these will make you want to get up and start decluttering/organizing immediately!

Dream Home Makeover – I had to stop watching this for awhile because I was getting too envious!  But, it’s a great interior design series and the results are just stunning.  Plus, I really like Shea McGee and her family is darling!

Yellowstone – So many of you have recommended this modern western staring Kevin Costner. Brian is all caught up but promises to watch with me.

Money Heist & The Chair are on my ‘watch next’ list.

It wouldn’t be Christmas without Christmas Vacation (have already watched it a few times this month) and my childhood memory of A Christmas Story!

RHONDA’S PICKS

Younger – This was a show that one of my friends told me about. A 40-something newly divorced mom is thrown back into the workforce, but to get the job, she has to pretend to be younger. She lands the job and now has to keep up the act that she is 20-something! Sounds interesting!

Sweet Magnolias – Another story about a newly divorced mom navigating a new normal with her three kids, all with the help of her three best friends and a few cocktails. You will find yourself pulling for her to find love again with that cutie pie head coach!

Virgin River – This show follows the well intentioned doctor from Los Angeles, who takes on a new role as a doctor in a small town, Virgin River. The head doctor is not so thrilled with her so she’s trying her hardest to fit it in. Enter in the handsome bar owner. You can see where this one is headed. 😉

Hart of Dixie – The heroin of this one is a girl, newly graduated from med school with dreams of becoming a heart surgeon. She ends up taking on a job in a sleepy town in Bluebell, Alabama. Oh the fun that comes with watching her find her place.

Selling Sunset – Need a little reality series that is drenched in fabulous homes and fashion? This is the show for you. Not to mention its not short on All.The.Drama.

The Morning Show – Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon take on sexual misconduct in the workforce with this one. This drama is full of twist and turns and reminds me of the Matt Lauer scandal a few years back.

Peaky Blinders – This one is loosely based on the crime families that ran in England after WW1. So much action and enough love story to keep the girls interested.  Plus, some ‘intimate’ scenes.  Brian loves this one too and is currently rewatching it.

Only Murders in the Building – If you love a good murder mystery, Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez are three tenants in this same building where a murder just occurred.  They decide that they’re going to get to the bottom of it while broadcasting a podcast about it. I’d call this one dark humor that keeps you guessing. Can’t wait for season two!

Little Fires Everywhere – Based on the book by the same name, Reese Witherspoon and Kerry Washington deliver a story about two different families and how their lives intertwine in the most tragic way.

Dirty John – This one is a crazy true story of a woman being taken advantage of by a con artist. There’s a podcast out about this one too. The story is almost too crazy to believe!

Ozark – If you haven’t been watching this one, then where have you been?! A gripping story of a family fallen on hard times and signing up to work with drug dealers. The show is wrapping up this last season, but you could easily binge watch and get caught up before they begin in January.

Just Like That – If you know me at all, you know my love of Sex in the City is BIG! This one just started and I don’t want to spoil if for anyone that hasn’t seen, but the crew is back and I’m curious how life looks for these girls!

Ted Lasso – So many people recommending this one! Jason Sudeikis is the title character who is a American college football coach who is hired to coach an English soccer team. The catch is he’s been hired by the owner in spite of her ex husband. She would like to see the team fall apart. Well meaning Ted has his hands full winning the heart of the English in this one.

I’m curious if these are on you list too or you have a fave to share!

  1. Love your recommendations! Here are a few more I thought were pretty good!
The Murders at White House Farm, The Underground Railroad, Apple Tree Yard (so good!), You (so good!), 12 Years a Slave, Narcos, The Crown (!), Sons of Anarchy.

  2. Veronica Mars, or Crash Landing on You. (Try one of the K Dramas…so fun, but you have to read subtitles, so not the best for watching and working at the same time).

  3. I have watched many f those….so good,
I would also recommend “Mare of Easttown” and “Hacks”.
“the Great” is also good, a little edgy but so funny!!

  4. Virgin River correction….she is a Nurse Practitioner, not an M.D….let’s give credit to the hard working NP’s out there…
