Our Christmas Decor (Part 2) & Last Minute Stocking Stuffers

Hello, hello friend!  Yay for Christmas break that officially starts TODAY!!  For your kiddos too?  I must admit, I’ve already started winding down and I’m ready for a big, long break.  We go, go, go so much during the year, so taking time to do nothing with people you love (or alone!) is good for the soul.

This Christmas season, I wanted to focus on the few things our family enjoys the most – looking at Christmas lights, watching movies in our jammies with hot cocoa, opening little chocolate treats in the Advent calendar everyday, looking for that Elf every morning, buying a cartload of toys for the annual toy drive, reading about Jesus’ birth and putting up the nativity, decorating gingerbread houses and making sugar cookies.

I also got to be the Mystery Reader at my daughter’s school this month and that was so sweet!  There are little mouse characters in this version of “Twas the Night Before Christmas” book and I read it in my best Minnie Mouse voice, which made all the kids giggle.

We also caught the annual snow day at Jaycee Park and the weather was really chilly and perfect for it!  I’m so glad I had a warm jacket and boots on hand!

We even managed to squeak out Christmas cards!  I love how they turned out this year and even printed photos for our family album.

OUR CHRISTMAS DECOR (PART 2)

I really enjoy decorating the house for Christmas and making it all warm and cozy.  But, with less energy this year, I didn’t go as “all out” as I have in year’s past.

We have several Christmas trees up, but only two have decorations- the rest are bare with just the twinkle of the lights.  I found that I’m loving the simplicity of that this year.

I shared Part 1 of our Christmas decor here (which includes the living room, foyer and kitchen), and today, I have Part 2, which includes our bedrooms and our dining room. As you’ll see below, I mostly repurposed what we already had from years’ past.

BEDROOM

There’s something so special about walking into a room at night when the Christmas tree is all lit up!  It’s that warm glow that makes the room feel magical.

I’ve had this tall, skinny tree for a long time and it fits perfectly in this corner of my bedroom.  I added the same pink ornaments, but left off the ribbon and picks, although when I looked back at pics of the tree from last year, I really liked how those extra elements really filled her out.

Love Pillow

I got the sherpa LOVE pillow last year or the year before.  It’s really soft and the sentiment leads right on into Valentine’s day.  They’re on clearance now too.

Similar Stockings • Stocking Holders

I think these stockings were from Target many years ago, but I still enjoy how they look, so I decided to display them here in the sitting room.  The wooden stocking holders have been a great, minimal way to hold them.

That wreath on the mirror was a lucky TJ Maxx find a couple of years ago.  I’ve tried to find a link for it, but can’t locate it anywhere.  I like how it looks in here, but it would also be sweet in a girls’ room.

Similar Deer • Tuscan Vases

I’ve collected a few deer over the years and this large shelf is a lovely place to display them where I can see them everyday.  I have them scattered amongst the garland and vases.

It’s always an easy way to create a little holiday moment by displaying some pretty ornaments in a bowl or vessel.  Pop in some greenery for a bit more flare.

I scored this gorgeous stone bowl at my friend Courtney’s shop when I visited for Shop Small Saturday. She has so many unique and beautiful pieces, sourced from all over the world.

KIDS’ ROOMS

We kept it simple in the kids’ rooms this year too.  In Jordan’s room, she has a pink bell wreath, a set of pink ornament pillows, and a few mini pink Christmas trees.

I found this sweet angel at the Nutcracker Market two years ago, but when I brought it home, Jordan said right away, “she has no eyes!”  So, my mom bought her a set of sticker eyes and we change them out from time to time.

Christmas Tree

In my son’s room, we added a petite, pre-lit tree that came in the cute burlap sack.  He has a whole bin of special ornaments, but said he’d rather leave it bare this year, so that’s what we did.

You might remember that I recently redecorated this room, making it a proper place for friends to stay, and just in time!

I have two friends coming in town this weekend for their son’s graduation.  I’m so happy to be able to have them here and I love that they’ll be able to have their own space while visiting.

I added a red throw, two festive pillows, as well as a wreath and mini Christmas tree to give it a holiday feel.

Moving back downstairs, I’ve got gifts wrapped and our dining room decorated!

Shopping for guys is hard, am I right?!  Here’s what I got Brian, which is inside these boxes!

DINING ROOM

I’m hosting Christmas dinner and our dining room is ready!  Except for the little golden trees, all the decor is items I already on hand.

I started with the neutral table runner that makes an easy backdrop for any decor color/style you’re going for.

Next, I layered a lush, faux garland on top with a wooden garland strand, a few extra berry picks and a row of battery operated twinkle lights.  Those little babies make everything sparkle at night!

Similar Candlestick Holder

We used tall taper candles at Thanksgiving and they gave such an elegance to the table that I decided to use them again for Christmas.  But, instead of amber colored candles, I switched them out to white.

For the place settings, I used the faux wooden chargers that I got last year and the spotted dinnerware with gold rim that we used at Thanksgiving.  Those plates and bowls are so pretty (very Kate Spade-esque) and you can microwave them and wash them in the dishwasher.

They also look great with the gold flatware.

For a traditional festive touch, I added red plaid napkins and gold napkin rings that compliment the plates and golden trees that are scattered about.

Gold Tree

Holiball • Tile Letters • Pot • Christmas Tree

One of my favorite things in this room is the wooden tile letters that my friend Jamie gifted me.  They’re a sentimental item that means so much since it has our family names spelled out, plus it’s unique and different.

I usually put a large tree in the corner near the window, but this year, I put this mini tree inside a decorative pot and secured it with potting foam. I think it makes a cute addition to our dining room decor this year. So easy, since this tree has no ornaments either!

And, we can see it really well since I picked it up from the ground and put it on the table.

Wreath

I kept the cabinet area minimal, just adding a wreath to the mirror. I meant to attach it with a big satin ribbon, but never got to that!  This cabinet is handy for creating a buffet style dinner where everyone can serve themselves.

Elf on the Shelf • Similar Advent Calendar

Is there an Elf running around (or forgetting to move) at your place?  One night, I fell asleep with Jordan and woke up the next morning to a text from my 6th grader that said, “got the elf.”

He had moved him for me!  Isn’t that so sweet?!

He loves hiding the elf and waking up with Jordan to watch her search for it each day.  She gets so excited about it!

Wreaths • Welcome Mat

The entryway was kept very simple this year too.  I didn’t even change out the mat, but the wreaths and potted tree look festive!

Even though our decor was simpler this year, I’m taking it all in and enjoying it so much!

It’s important to listen to our bodies and take it easy when we need to.  I’m glad I didn’t try to push myself to do more than I was comfortable with, but instead, took my time sprinkling decor here and there, arranging and rearranging, and enjoying the process.

And leaving room for all of those things we love to do together during the holiday season.  I’ve been reminding myself that all of December is the holidays, not just Christmas morning when we open presents. That’s just one part of the holy celebration that make up the holidays.

When I think of it this way, time doesn’t seem as fleeting.  I can exhale and take each day as it comes.  I’m so very grateful for my family and this time with them!

  1. Your house looks so warm and cozy! Also, I love the ceiling fan in your guest room, would you happen to have the link? Hope you have a happy and relaxing holiday 🙂

  2. I love your house. We purchased the Walmart pillows and poufs that you linked this summer for my daughters apartment. I REALLY alike the wood pedestal table your dining room Christmas tree is on. Do you have a link for that? Have a wonderful Christmas and enjoy the kiddos while they are still young.

    1. Hi Margaret! That table is from Wisteria years ago. I’m not sure they still have it because I looked, but didn’t see it on their website anymore.
