Christmas Recap & After Christmas Sales

Hi friend!  I’m still reveling in the post-Christmas glow, and the decor is happily still up.  I’m not ready to take it down and I don’t have the energy yet.  So, we’ll get to enjoy it a little while longer, maybe until next weekend or so.  If you want to see how I store our holiday decor, check out this post.  When does yours come down?

I hope you had a wonderful Christmas.  Ours was fantastic and I took a few pics so I could have memories to look back on and to share with you here.

Our Elf, Buddy, made his last appearance on Christmas Eve.  He was caught making s’mores in the kitchen. 😉 Looking for this little guy was one of Jordan’s favorite things to do this year.  That, and opening the chocolate Advent calendar.

A walk outside on Christmas Eve felt good to get moving and gave me energy to get all those last minutes things done.  As prepared as I was, it was still a late night.

It’s been unseasonably warm here, in the 80s, so I really hope it cools down soon.

I’ve been wanting to try my hand at decorating sugar cookies with royal icing and finally took the plunge.  It’s harder and messier than I realized, plus, you need to make a lot of it in two different consistencies to have an outline and flood icing.

It’s one of those things that I think you get better at with practice and the help of YouTube videos like this channel I’ve been watching.

To make the whole process simpler, I used a sugar cookie mix instead of baking them from scratch.

Jordan got in on the action with me and really enjoyed it.

For my first time, I just flooded the circle cookies with a solid color, then wrote in the kids’ name to put on their Christmas table.

I only made a few colors of icing and this is our collection.

We set the round breakfast table as the kids table and the dining room table for the adults.  We went back and forth over the menu and ending up making two roast chickens with gravy, a spiral glazed ham, mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, jalapeño creamed corn, garden salad and rolls.

Our Christmas morning was fun too.  Jordan woke up at the crack of dawn and the kids were so excited to open their presents.

Among other things, Jordan asked for a football helmet, jersey and skateboard.

Santa was good to James too and brought him a new Xbox.

I can’t believe how big both of them are getting!  It’s so crazy to look back at older pictures and compare from year to year.

TopJeansSlippers

Here’s my festive/casual outfit mix for Christmas day.  I really like the top because it’s super soft- faux suede and actually has some stretch to it.  I’m wearing a size Small, but it fits TTS, so I would prefer an XS.

My little brother Austin is into fitness and works out everyday.  He lost 4o pounds this year and I’m so proud of him.  He got a kick out of my mini treadmill in my bar.  But honestly, I’ve used it WAY more since putting it here than when I had it upstairs.

Our Living Room

At dinner, we said we’d get a family picture before the night ends and even talked about putting the phone on a timer to get the pic.  But, we got so involved in just being together and opening gifts and talking that we never got one.  This is as close to a family picture as I got this year!

And yesterday, I was back at the part again.  I’ve had a lot of time at home lately and getting outside is so good for the mind, body and soul.

I can’t believe we’re almost to the end of the year!  What a month it’s been.  If you missed any posts you can catch up on the most read below:
