Coastal Guest Room Reveal

Hi friend!  Welcome to a brand new week!  This week is gonna be so fun because I get to go our annual Nutcracker Market with my mom on Thursday.  It’s a local holiday shopping event where hundreds of vendors gather in our convention center to share their holiday goodies- everything from decor, gifts, clothing, toys and food!

It’s always so much fun and I cherish that one-on-one time with my mama.  It’s hard to get a grandma’s attention when the grandkids are around! We always kick off the day with mimosas and it’s a lot of fun.

The kids are off school on Friday, so we’ll start our holiday decorating then too!  I can’t wait!

GUEST ROOM REVEAL

But, before I get ahead of myself, I’m thrilled to welcome you into my newly finished guest room!  This room was my 11 year-old son’s room for a long time, but he recently moved into the rarely used media room.

It ended up working out because now he’s closer to the center of the house with better mom access, and now we have a room that guests can enjoy all to themselves!

I wanted this room to have a natural, organic, fresh coastal vibe, so I knew that I’d love to have a natural or cane bed as the focal point.  I searched high and low but all of the beds I was drawn to (seen here, here and here) were pretty expensive and this room was on a budget.

These gorgeous beds on Pottery Barn and Serena & Lily would be a dream, but way more than I wanted to spend on this room.  I kept looking and looking and realized that I could just buy a headboard and save loads of money as opposed to buying the entire bed.

I saw this woven headboard on Amazon for under $300! and it’s just the type of woven texture I wanted to add in the room.  I was nervous about ordering it online without getting to see the color and material in person, but I breathed a sigh of relief when it arrived.

The color is a pretty caramel/dark tan that looks very natural and organic.  I saw that you can affix the bed to the wall, but I simply have it leaning and it seems to work fine!  I also like the height- you get to see the headboard without the pillows overtaking it.

I also needed a mattress and bed frame. I went with a mattress similar to the ones that my kids have in their rooms.  I’ve slept on both of their beds many nights and they’re quite comfortable so I knew it would be a good choice as a guest bed.

I got a queen size Beautyrest with cooling technology.  My girlfriend Karen already came to stay two nights and she said she got a great night’s sleep.

The mattress is 12 inches and I ordered this bed frame to set it on, which was very easy to assemble.  I didn’t get a boxspring, but it doesn’t need it.

I already knew we love the soft Amazon sheets so I bought another Queen set for this bed.  The Duvet & Shams were a lucky find at Target. The texture is a beautiful soft linen blend that adds a bit of texture to the bed.

A throw blanket at the end of the bed would complete the look, but I still need to add that.

For the pillows, I started with these really pretty Euro pillows from Target and I think they add a touch of femininity to the room and go well with the wallpaper.

The floral embroidered lumbar pillow is so gorgeous in person and looks expensive because the embroidery is sewn on as opposed to stamped.

At the end of the bed, I adding a woven bench for a practical place to sit and added visual interest.  I thought this one looked similar to the styles at Serena & Lily, but at a fraction of the cost.

For an extra dose of texture, I added this braided rug.  I like to layer rugs with carpet and this one ties in nicely with the woven headboard.

I like to use a rug pad underneath, and got this one that’s nice and thick.  These genius sticky rug grippers will keep the ends of the rug in place.

I was so happy to find these white nightstands for a steal.  When I was originally looking online, the first place I found them was selling them for about $550, but I kept searching and found them for around $300! #score!

I’ve had these tall grey ceramic lamps in my living room for ages, but I recently bought these grey stone looking lamps for that space, so I was able to move these lamps upstairs.

I think they look great there and I was happy not to have to buy new.

The room already had the punchy blue and white wallpaper and I decided to leave it since I still really like it.  It creates a lovely focal point and the blue can easily go in a coastal direction.

The framed wall art is gorgeous in person!  It’s also much larger than I anticipated, so it will be a lovely focal point above the bed.  It’s a beautiful natural landscape photograph and the white frame is nice and substantial.

I kept thinking I’d like to have another surface in the room for guests to set their belongings and to fill the space and I saw this wooden campaign desk on display at Target and it looked so good!

Brian helped me assemble it and it wasn’t too difficult.  I just pulled in a temporary chair from my office for the time being.

My friend Stephanie suggested adding woven wall hangings above the desk and I thought that was a great idea- especially since I already added a tall wall mirror near the door.

I searched high and low and was surprised at all of the options!  Pottery Barn has some gorgeous ones, but they were pretty pricey.  I kept looking and ended up finding this set of three baskets on Amazon.

Wall Mirror

Last but not least, I found this Moroccan inspired wall mirror at Target and it’s perfect for giving guests a full view look before stepping out the door.  I also love how it reflects the bed!
