The Six Skincare Products I Buy on Repeat

Hi friends!  Just a hop, skip and a jump to the weekend now!  That’s how Thursdays always feel- they’re my busiest day of the week, trying to get all the things done for Friday and prepare for the weekend.  Usually such a whirlwind trying to fit it all in!

Tonight, I’m looking forward to a fun date night at a new Houston restaurant, Bludorn.  It took weeks to get a reservation, so I’m super excited to try it!  If you’re there and see me, I’d love to say hi! And a special hello to Gillian, who I met at Mutiny a few weeks ago!  Thanks for saying hello! 🙂

THE SIX SKINCARE PRODUCTS I BUY ON REPEAT

Today, we’re chatting skincare and the products I buy on repeat.  I’m pretty reliant on my Colleen Rothschild skincare routine, but I do tend to use certain products more often than others.

Being in my 40’s, I focus on reducing the appearance of hyperpigmentation (damage done in my earlier years when I was careless with tanning), smoothing fine lines and wrinkles, and improving the texture and quality of my skin.  I want to keep that youthful glow as long as possible!

I have combination skin – oily around my cheeks and drier at my forehead.  I’m also prone to breakouts if a product doesn’t agree with my skin.

Although I’ve tried many of the products in Colleen’s skincare line, the six products below are my ride or die, things I order on repeat!  I’ll be sure to keep alerting you when I see a sale, that’s the best time to stock up!

Radiant Cleansing Balm

I’ve been using this gentle cleanser for years and still love it.  It’s probably the product I would recommend if I had to choose only one.  It’s a balm cleanser you apply with your clean fingers to your dry face.  Then, you wet the muslin cloth with warm water that it comes with and gently wipe off the balm.

The combination of the textured cloth and the Radiant Cleansing Balm act as an exfoliant to gently remove impurities.  I finish by splashing cold water onto my skin to help close my pores, then pat dry. My skin is left feeling soft and clean, but not tight.  Plus, it smells amazing and leaves you feeling like you just left a spa after every use.

Micro-Mineral Resurfacing Scrub

Consider this scrub an at-home alternative to professional microdermabrasion treatments.  It has micro-mineral (ultra-fine) crystals that you apply to wet skin and gently scrub in a circular motion, avoiding the eye area.

You don’t have to press hard- the crystals do the work. You’re left with refined texture, unclogged pores and a brighter complexion because the dead skin cells are buffed away.

I’ve started keeping this in the shower and use it every other day to exfoliate my skin.

Complete Eye Cream

This eye cream helps smooth wrinkles and fine lines, and offers skin plumping properties under eye circles, puffiness and loss of elasticity.   It’s very gentle and a little goes a long way.

I use my ring finger to gently tap the product around my eyes. It doesn’t irritate my eyes at all.

PRO TIP : if you have product left over, apply it to your lips to help alleviate the fine lines in that area

Vitamin C Treatment Complex

I’ve heard for years that Vitamin C is one of the best products you can use on your skin for it’s anti-aging, damage-repairing and UV-protecting powers.  Use it consistently and over time to see the best results, including reducing hyperpigmentation and increasing cell turnover.  My skin is more radiant and even toned since I started using it.

PRO TIP : Apply a thin layer over your face, but don’t forget your neck and chest. Let it absorb for one minute before applying your next product.

Mandelic Acid Radiance Serum

This is one product that I highly recommend for the reducing dark spots I was talking about.  I’ve seen a big improvement in my spots fading when I added this serum to my regimen, especially in combination with the Vitamin C Treatment Complex.

I use the Vitamin C Treatment Complex every morning and the Mandelic Acid Radiance Serum every evening. If you do it religiously, after a few weeks, you should see visible improvement!

It’s a daily treatment that promotes cellular turnover, which addresses photo-aging, fine lines, acne, dark spots and overall skin texture. Derived from the bitter almond, Mandelic acid is a gentle yet highly effective alpha hydroxy acid (AHA).

Retinol Supreme Night Oil

I still love and use the Face Oil No. 9 often, but the Retinol Supreme Night Oil has the added benefit of regenerating your skin with a highly potent vitamin C.  Like I mentioned above, Vitamin C is important for boosting collagen production and repairing skin damage due to the environment and the sun.

I use this at night and wake up with glowy skin!

I didn’t really start taking my skincare seriously until I turned 40 (I’m 45 now), so believe me, if you’re older than me, it’s not too late to start.  If you’re younger, time is on your side!  Shout out your age in the comments and tell me when you started paying attention to your skin.
I’m religious about wearing sunscreen daily now and never intentionally tan my face.  I wear ball caps and hats, especially in the summer.  I try to drink a lot of water, but I sometimes fall short.
I also know that diet, exercise, sleep, not smoking and living an overall healthy lifestyle is also important for our skin. They say reducing stress is critical too, but dang, that’s a hard one!
I’ll be sharing next week what I’ve been eating and how I’ve been exercising lately.

  1. I just turned 38 this summer & I would say I really started paying attention to my skincare around 35 maybe. I’m not exactly sure when, but I know it hasn’t been a super long time. It took me a LOOOONG time to realize “you get what you pay for.” I always thought drugstore stuff was good enough cuz that was (and still is) my mom’s mindset. So it took me a while to venture out & find GOOD skincare and not be afraid to pay a little more. I am now teaching my daughter the importance of good, higher quality skincare & makeup products.

  2. 27 and already showing signs of early aging :(. I want to invest in good skincare products and start a routine! Thank you for making this post 🙂

  3. I’m 41 & honestly have been paying attention to my skincare routine since my early 20s (after tanning like a madwoman in my teens). Having an aunt that religiously used tanning beds quickly taught me that premature aging is a real thing! All in all, I mainly use drugstore brands but I would like to consider venturing into higher quality products as I’m getting older. I always wonder if it’s a noticeable difference, considering the much higher price.

Couple of questions.. for your nighttime routine, after you cleanse, you use the eye cream, the Mandelic acid serum, then the retinol night oil? Do you use a moisturizer at night? Do you use the cleansing balm both morning & night? So many questions, I know! One last thing; how long do each of these products typically last? Thanks so much for your help, I adore reading your blog!!

  4. Love Colleen Rothschild products! I have yet to try the Micro-Mineral Resurfacing Scrub and the Vitamin C Treatment Complex, but after reading this … S O L D!!! I can’t wait to try these two products. I am 39, wanna say I truly began a conscious skincare regime in my early/mid 30s and these days I live for it. It’s that me-time I adore <3

  5. Sorry doesn’t have anything to do with the post- but could you post a link or mention where your shirt is from and beaded bracelet that says mama??? Every pic I couldn’t stop looking at both and loving them!!!

    Thank you
