May Rewind & Coming Together

Good morning friends!  I don’t often miss a Monday post, but with everything going on over the weekend, my heart was heavy and I found it difficult to focus.  I saw the pain and anger in so many faces and it’s devastating to realize what’s underneath all that emotion.

My heart goes out to everyone who has experienced racial inequality and unfair and hateful treatment based solely on the color of their skin.  It’s 100% not right and I will be so much more aware of how I act, respond and raise my family.  I want to be part of the solution and I know I can do better.

On my social media feed, I will be observing #Blackout Tuesday, taking time off to reflect and find ways to educate myself more on the Black Lives Matter movement.  I am also donating to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund that fights for legal justice.

I keep reminding myself that this isn’t about me, but I can help create change.  I have black friends in my life that I really care about and my kids’ do too. I can’t imagine what this must be like for them and their families.  We’ve talked about it a little, but probably not enough.  I need to fully support them in being seen and heard. I want to be a safe place for them and their feelings.  That’s one way to be a good friend.

I’m worried that I’m not expressing myself eloquently enough or that I’m not saying enough.  I’m cognizant of the fact that saying nothing is worse.  This is not a quick fix situation, but I feel like America is waking up and uniting.  I heard a grief counselor say that one of the stages of grief is anger and that makes so much sense to me.  I hope that people will come together peacefully and have the positive impact they intend.

mini treadmill

I also finally got my mini treadmill working!  The treadmill was working fine, but when I would turn it on, my breaker in that room would blow out.  I had an electrician come out and now it’s good to go!  I’ve been walking on it every morning!  I love how lightweight and compact it is, perfect for someone living in a small space because you can easily fold it up and slide it out of the way.  It goes up to 5.0, but doesn’t incline.

I needed to find something for the house as I decided to stop paying for a trainer to save money.

COMING UP!

June is lookin’ good guys!  I’ll be sharing how I’m planning the rest of our year, Father’s Day gifts, a dining room update, news Summer styles, June Loves & beauty haul and more!

I hope y’all have an awesome week and I’m sending you a big virtual hug.  I’ll never be able to take away the pain that so many are feeling, but I’m letting you know I hear you and I care.

  1. As a black subscriber, I appreciate your thoughtful sentiments and desire to be a part of the change.

  2. Love your style and the things you share. I have purchased many items because of your recommendations. (Putting on those Amazon bed sheets today! 😉 ) Thank you for elevating my style!

  3. I agree with your comments about uniting the country. I also feel sad and disgusted with the racial inequality we are still experiencing this day and age. This should not be happening in 2020 America! But let us also not forget the store owners who have had their buildings damaged , their livelihoods taken from them. Let us not forget the innocent police officers who lost their lives at the hands of the angry mobs while protecting people. And let’s not forget the Dallas store owner who was pulled from his store and beaten to death by this angry mob. PLEASE, Black lives matter, white lives matter, blue lives matter, ALL LIVES MATTER!

  4. Thanks for your honest reflections in this space. You are the same age as my eldest son and I had him at an early age like your mom so love seeing things about her as well. You have a spiritual depth that I admire. We live in KS; you in Texas, so know it is not easy to speak out in our communities that are often resistant to concerns about systemic racism. Blessings on your steadfast faith and courage.
