Dining Room Update

Hello friends!  Welcome back and here’s to a fresh, new week!  My weekend was awesome and I hope yours was too!  I got to have some one-on-one time with Jordan Saturday morning.  We went to the pool, ate lunch at the cafe, and then stopped by Starbuck’s on the way home.  I’ve said before that age four is so delightful and I think it’s true with Jordan too.  Seriously, so much fun!

I also got my kitchen nice and organized and saved a kitchen tour to Instagram Stories if you want to check that out.

Today, I’m sharing how my dining room is turning out now that a few of the pieces I ordered have arrived!  You may remember that I recruited my friend Aryn at Oyster Creek Design Studios to help transform this space and I love how it’s coming together!  You can go here to see what the dining room looked like before.

DINING ROOM UPDATE

So far, the dining room table, rug, chandelier and mirror have arrived!  The biggest difference is definitely the gold chandelier and it looks amazing in the room.  There was a drum shade chandelier in this room before and it blocked the view of the room. This one is light and airy, but still makes a statement.

It’s huge in person, but the room is pretty big so it fits perfectly!

The table arrived right away, and at first I was surprised at how grey it is.  It’s called “brushed grey oak” but it looked more ‘greige’ online.  I will say that the grey color is really pretty and quickly grew on me.  I definitely like that it’s a 4- legged table- no bumping legs or chairs into a pedestal leg.

White Faux Flowers

I was trying to give y’all a true picture of what it looks like in person and how the wood grain is, so I hope this gives you an idea.  We’ve already been sitting here and enjoying some meals together!

I’m crazy for how the rug looks in the room.  It’s light and bright with a gorgeous texture and feels nice and soft underfoot!

Pottery Barn Rug

I’m keeping my 11 year old upholstered chairs to save money on the design, but they have actually held up really well.  I did give the cushions a good cleaning with Folex carpet cleaner.  You just spray it onto the stains, give it a good rub with your fingers (I wore a rubber glove) and then dab with a cloth.  I couldn’t believe some of the old stains that came up!

My breakfast room chairs were practically ruined with stains to the point where I almost recovered them.  Then, I tried Folex and they look so much better!! I had to do the cleaning process on the more severe stains several times, but the results have been fantastic.

So, before you get rid of stained chairs, try cleaning them!

Pottery Barn faux fiddle leaf fig tree

Fiddle Leaf FigBasket

I just moved the fiddle leaf fig tree I had in the living room into the dining room and it really brings a freshness to the room.  This is the best faux tree I’ve seen and it was definitely worth the splurge.  The leaves are big and life-like, as are the trunk and branches.  Also, the color looks realistic too.  You can bend and shape the leaves to where you want them to go.  And, it’s currently on sale!

Gold Mirror

The mirror (similar) still needs to be hung, but I think it’s going to look so pretty in here and the reflection will really open up the room.  It’s massive in person!

I’m still waiting on the sideboard, lamps, white drapes and drapery rods, then it will be complete!

In the meantime, I moved the older console table to behind my couch and I’m digging how that looks there!

DINING ROOM DECOR

I’m already starting to think about ways I can style the dining room and little decor pieces to bring it all together.  I found all of these items on Amazon!

Gold Flatware • Gold flatware just looks so chic and the kids really love it.  For the longest time, James would ask, “can we use the ‘golden’ forks?!

Drinking Glasses • I like the simple design on these 7 ounce glasses and they come in a set of 12 for just $24.

Wine GlassesChampagne Flutes are a must have since quarantine!  Both of these styles are elegant and modern.

Faux Eucalyptus • Especially after dealing with fruit flies recently, I’m all about the faux botanicals!

Votive Candle Holders • I’m a huge fan of the ambiance candles provide.  How sexy is this set?!

Steak Knives • I could use a few more steak knives since I only have a few and I feel like they’re always in the dishwasher (although I know hand washing is preferred).  I have these J.A. Henckles and they are the best I’ve used.

Buffalo Check Pillow Cover • Pillows definitely add some softness to a room and buffalo check is a classic.

Cloth Napkins • You may have heard me mention that we switched from paper napkins/towels to using cloth ones.  It saves money and I don’t mind washing.  I like to keep Napkin Rings on the cloth napkins at a place setting to keep the table looking pretty.

Faux Fiddle Leaf Fig • I haven’t seen this potted fiddle leaf fig in person, but it got good reviews and the photos look really good!

Table Runner • I’ll be keeping the dining room neutral toned and I like the texture and boho vibe this table runner lends.

Dinnerware Set • You can’t go wrong with a simple set of white dinnerware.  This one is 18 pieces and serves 6 for only $45.

Dining Room Chair • I was able to salvage my dining room chairs, but if you’re looking for upholstered chairs, these look great and have gorgeous nailhead trim.

Placemats (not pictured) • Last but not least, we always eat on placemats.  They look good and help keep messes, spills and crumbs at bay! I love these because they are easy to wash off and look good as new forever!

This dining room project has been on my list for such a long time and I’m so happy it’s on it’s way to being complete!  It’s especially cool because it’s one of the first rooms you see when you come into my home and I love the first impression!  I’ll be sure to keep you posted on Stories (follow me @honeywerehome) as it comes together and give you the final reveal here too!

Now go kick Monday’s booty!
