Helping Support Healthcare Workers from Home

Hi friends!  We made it to Friday!  Our first week of homeschool in the books and everyone is alive and well!  I was probably more worried about me surviving it than them, but our teachers have been so amazing, they made it easier on us!

I feel like we are in our own safe little bubble inside our home, but I know that’s not the case for everyone. This week has been wild, difficult, crazy, an emotional roller coaster, yet lovely in its own ways.  Having the kids home all day has forced me to work less than I’m used to, but that’s okay.  I know that most of us are taking an economic hit with everyone being forced to stay home.  Yet, we still want to help where we can.

I had planned to do a Dressing Room post for today, but decided to postpone it so I could dedicate this post to one way we can help from home.

FRONTLINE HEROES

I couldn’t help but feel like there’s more I can do then just stay home, although that is definitely huge.  Just keeping you and your family home and fed and safe is our biggest priority, I know.

After tossing and turning most of Wednesday night trying to brainstorm ways I could help more during this time, I came up with focusing my blog and Story content more on at-home workout videos (y’all really liked the one James and I posted to IGTV), healthy meals, ways to stay productive at home (I have lots of ideas on that!), sharing more of our decor and organization. I know lots of us are Kon Mari-ing the crap out of our houses right now!

But, I still wanted to do more for those really in it.  You know what I mean?

I woke up Thursday and saw that my girlfriend Lindsey started a fundraising project (Frontline Heroes) in her home state of Alabama to provide packaged meals from restaurants to the healthcare workers on the front lines.

I immediately loved that idea so much because it’s : 1) something I can do from home with your help and, 2)  it serves the brave healthcare workers and helps support local restaurants.  I supported myself and put myself through school as a waitress, so I have a soft spot for those out of work right now.

And can you even imagine what it’s like to work in a hospital right now, knowing that you are exposing yourself to the danger?  My best friend Karen is a nurse and when she would tell me what her shifts are like, I can’t even wrap my head around it.

I reached out to Lindsey right away and she helped me get my own fundraiser started for my city of Houston.

Houston has the largest medical center in the world and as of Thursday, Texas had about 1,000 confirmed cases of Coronavirus.  The Texas Medical Center is currently preparing for a potential future surge in COVID-19 cases.

We know that our heroes wear scrubs and are voluntarily putting themselves at risk by bravely treating their patients everyday.

________

The Frontline Heroes goal is to feed our healthcare providers, nurses, and support staff, who are risking their lives each and every day to protect the health and safety of our beloved Houston community.

Our goal is to serve 500 meals in the first week to the frontline healthcare workers fighting the COVID-19 pandemic at Houston-area hospitals.  I’ll be coordinating with local hospitals and restaurants to provide as many safely prepared and packaged meals to those workers.

If you want to join in, you can send donations via venmo to me at @megan-frontlineheroeshouston

I will use 100% of those funds to purchase meals from Houston area restaurants.

I started with my own donation of $500 yesterday, and within hours of sharing on my Stories (which I save to the “GIVE” highlight), we had raised almost $1000! Thank you so much for giving!  I will definitely keep you posted here and on Stories with exactly what we are able to give and to whom.

I’m hopeful that our Shelter in Place order (currently in effect until April 3) will truly help stop the spread of the virus and that things will get back to normal soon.

In the meantime, if we can help serve our community and bless the healthcare workers that are working so hard, along with the restaurants, I’m thankful to be able to do so!

Please feel free to spread the love : #FrontlineHeroes #ThankYouCOVIDHeroes #FrontlineHeroesHouston

If you work at a hospital and are interested in receiving meals, please get me in touch with the appropriate person so I can coordinate a safe delivery.

If you are a restaurant owner and would like to participate, I’d love to hear from you too.

Together, we can do great things and bless so many people from the comfort and safety of our own homes.

Have a fantastic weekend!
