My Secret to Younger Looking Skin | Dermarolling

Thank you to Nordstrom and ShopStyle for sponsoring today’s post.

I’m super excited about today’s post because I don’t think I’ve ever written about this topic on my blog.  I’ve shared it on Stories, but you might have missed it.  I’m glad it will be here on my blog now as a handy reference for you!

My skin is nowhere near perfect #hello44, but I do my best with what I’ve been given.  I did all the wrong things in high school like slather my body in baby oil mixed with iodine and lay out in the sun for hours trying to turn my skin golden brown.  Have you done that?!

When I was old enough to start working and making money, I signed right up for a tanning membership.  I’d get in several times a week and fake bake myself, especially my face.  Oh yes, I wanted that golden glow!

So bad!!!

IF I ONLY KNEW THE DAMAGE I WAS DOING!

Fast forward 20 years, and I’m so much more conscientious about my skin.  I won’t go near a tanning bed, always use sunscreen, often wear hats when I’m going to be outside, and opt for self tanner and spray tans when I want a bronzed look.

MY SECRET TO YOUNGER LOOKING SKIN

I’m passionate about my skincare routine and if there’s one single tool that I credit for helping my skin look as youthful as possible, it’s the BeautyBio GloPRO Microneedling Regeneration Tool “GloPRO”.

I first discovered the GloPRO during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale and have been using it ever since.  I made sure not to wear makeup in this post (besides mascara!) so you could really see what my skin looks like – imperfections and all.  But SO MUCH BETTER since I started using the GloPRO.

I love it because it’s so easy it is to use (just a few minutes a few times a week), how effective it is, and also relatively inexpensive compared to a dermatologist visit.

Let’s get into it and I’ll tell you all about what it does and how to use it.

WHAT IS MICRONEEDLING OR DERMAROLLING?

Microneedling is a process where tiny needles make little holes or needle pricks in the top layers of your skin to improve the skin’s appearance and texture.  One method of microneedling uses a dermaroller, which looks like a miniature paint roller with lots of tiny needles.

It is gently rolled in different directions over the surface of your skin to achieve the same result.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?

It helps with acne scars, hyperpigmentation, texture, elasticity, wrinkles, and more.

My mom underwent a series of three professional microneedling treatments “vampire facial with PRP” at my dermatologist’s office to combat serious acne scars and deep wrinkles.  It was expensive, painful and yes, there was blood involved.  But, her results were really good!  Those professional microneedles are longer and should only be used by a trained professional.

For my more minor skin concerns, the GloPRO tool is perfect. The attachment head on the GloPRO contains 540 surgical steel MicroTipsâ„¢ with a needle length of 0.3 mm, which is a very short needle, and safe enough to use at home daily and still see amazing results.

I use the GloPRO tool to dermaroll my skin.  See those teeny little needles on the roller?  They basically prick your skin to make your skin look better.  Sounds counterintuitive, right? As the roller moves over your skin, it stimulates the skin so that the skin cells repair themselves, resulting in better looking skin.

HOW TO USE THE GLOPRO MICRONEEDLING TOOL

STEP 1

Cleanse your face and pat dry.  Make sure NOT to use the GloPRO on open wounds, keyloid scars, or active breakouts.

STEP 2

The set comes with skin prep pads to wipe over your face to clarify and condition the areas you intend to dermaroll.  I’ll admit that I don’t use those.  I just wash with my regular cleanser and then use the GloPRO.

I do make sure to sanitize the roller head with the alcohol spray before and after each use.

STEP 3

Roll the GloPRO across specific targeted areas of the face in vertical, horizontal and diagonal directions for 60 seconds total, no pressure needed- the machine does the work.

I usually start with horizontal strokes on my forehead about 4 times, then go vertical, then diagonal- kind of in a snowflake or star pattern.  Then I move onto my cheeks and chin.  I’ll demonstrate on Stories later today for you so you can see.

Don’t use the GloPRO on the delicate eyelids, lip or nose.

The GloPRO is battery operated, but you can also plug it into an outlet.

STEP 4

Your serums and moisturizers will work best (200x better) if you use them within 60 seconds after using the GloPRO.

DOES IT HURT?

That’s the first thing everyone wants to know.  No, it doesn’t hurt, but I will say, the thin skin on my forehead is more sensitive than the rest of my face.  It feels like slight pricks in the skin, but I don’t think it hurts. My skin does turn pink after I use it.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD YOU USE IT?

As I mentioned, the attachment head contains 540 surgical steel MicroTipsâ„¢ with a needle length of 0.3 mm, which is a very short needle, therefore safe enough to use daily.

Immediately after you use the GloPRO, your skin is better able to absorb your anti-aging and skincare products, so it is recommended to use it at least three times a week.

I’ve started setting mine out on my bathroom counter (in it’s case) so I don’t forget this important step when I do my nightly skincare routine. When I used to keep it in my drawer, I would often forget about it.

My skin looks so much better since using the GloPRO.  My hyperpigmentation has diminished, my skin’s texture and appearance has improved, and my pores seem smaller.

If you have the GloPRO or have done any microneedling, I’d love to hear about your results in the comments.  Are you as hooked as I am?

While we’re talking beauty, I wanted to show you three new products I picked up at Nordstrom recently.  If you enjoy shopping there (who doesn’t?!), then you’ll really appreciate their beauty department and skincare brands and services.

I’ve found their makeup artists to be amazing and really helpful and knowledgable.  You can get free makeup lessons and consultations, as well as brow and spa services at your local Nordstrom store.

MAC Powder Kiss Lipstick | Mandarin • Scattered Petals • Velvet Punch

I like matte lipstick for it staying power, but it usually feels dry on my lips.  This lipstick is different.  It’s a matte finish, but is formulated with moisture-coated powder pigments that conditions and hydrates your lips. It feels really good on!  You’ll get that supermodel ‘blurred lip’ look with this MAC Powder Kiss Lipstick.

Two Faced Sweet Peach Eyeshadow Palette

All the colors you’ll need to create daytime or evening looks are in this one palette that’s infused with the sweet essence of peach. I love that it comes with a black- I use a stiff angled brush and apply it as eyeliner for a dramatic look. I also appreciate the combination of matte and shiny shades.

*You’ll also get a FREE GIFT with this purchase

BECCA Afterglow Palette

I’m super excited to try this one! It has all your contour, highlight and blush needs, in a limited-edition, full face palette that features brand new and best-selling shades of BECCA’s iconic highlighter, blush and bronzer.

I would love a post about your typical day.

    We are rooting for you!

You really inspire me! Thank you!

  3. I love my Glopro! I have noticed that the products that I use on my skin after I use the Glopro are more effective and I have skin great results.

  4. If your mother would be willing, I’d love to see details on what she did and her results sometime! I’m 43 and while I’m pretty lucky as far as wrinkles go, I do have some old acne scars on my cheeks from bad breakouts when I was a teenager. They have improved over the last 25-30 years but I’m still self-conscious of them. I’m debating if I want to do some kind of professional treatment in the future.

PS. So glad you are taking care of yourself… it’s hard enough for women following divorces, AND for moms in general, to prioritize this but I think it’s so important. My theory is, you can’t pour from an empty cup! If you’re pouring yourself into your kids, like many of us do, it’s vital to refill your own cup with whatever recharges you.

  5. Hi Megan
I don’t know what’s wrong with me but I bought a dermaroller some time back but just never got round to using it even though I’d watched a few tutorials on YouTube etc. Your Instagram Stories and this blog post gave me the impetus to dust off my dermaroller and use it for the first time. I will continue using it and hopefully it does my skin good. Thanks for the no-fuss easy-to-follow tutorial!

    1. I’m so glad my post and Story demonstration was helpful! I have seen such great results with mine, I’d love to hear how it goes for you after you’ve had a chance to use it for awhile.

  6. Been using the micro needling! But mine didn’t come with an alcohol spray to clean it. Do you have a recommendation for one?
