Transition to Fall Target Haul (40 OUTFITS)

Hello friends and cheers to the weekend!  Do you have any fun plans?  The kids and I are going to a back-to-school game night at Marianna’s house and I’m really looking forward to it!  We’re told to bring $6 and winner takes all at the end of the night (with kids eligible to win too).  With this competitive bunch, I hope we all make it out alive! 😉

If you missed it this week, I shared my Magnolia Market trip recap, the Best Sales, and on Stories I did a LOFT try-on, hair styling tutorial (both saved to Highlights) and asked for your advice on how to get Jordan sleeping in her own bed again.

My goal is to get her back to her bed by the time school starts because lately when I wake up early, so does she!  And doesn’t that defeat the whole purpose?! Send help if you have some words of wisdom.  Y’all give the BEST advice and I always appreciate it so much!

TRANSITION TO FALL • TARGET HAUL

I’m super pumped about today’s post because I’ve got over 40 Summer to Fall outfits to share with you and almost everything is under $25!  Even as a lifestyle/fashion blogger, I still need to stay on a budget and be mindful of how I spend my money and the prices of things.  I want to get the most value out of my purchases and be able to mix and match pieces with other things in my closet to create lots of cute outfits that I actually want to wear and feel great in– not just things that will sit in my closet and not get to see the light of day.

I still value quality and don’t mind spending a bit more when it’s really worth it- these booties come to mind.  I find there’s a balance, but I get GIDDY when I find really freaking cute things at places like Amazon for a steal.  (Check out my Amazon posts fashion posts here).

I know Target has great clothes, but it’s been awhile since I shopped there.  Honestly, I stopped popping in there because I’ve been making a huge effort to not mindlessly fill my cart with tons of things I’ll probably end up donating in a year or two anyways!

I searched Target online from the safety of my own home, but ended up finding so.many.cute.things that I wanted to try on and share with you!  Do you like to shop Target for clothes?  What’s your favorite retailer?  Are you into boutiques?  I just ordered six things from Red Dress Boutique for a change and tried them on on Stories if you want to see.

I’m asking because I want to start venturing outside of my Nordstrom, Loft, Amazon comfort zone.  I’d love to hear your feedback!  I might as well mention that this post isn’t sponsored, it’s just my honest curiosity about the Target new arrivals and my effort to stretch my budget further.

Size Reference : I’m super petite, 5’1, 110, 34D.  I usually wear 0P or 25 in jeans and XS or 0P tops.

TOPS • TANKS • TEES

Target has tons of great basic pieces that are perfect worn on their own now, or layering with later to add interest to your outfit and keep you warm.  I got a few everyday tees, tanks, and several fun graphic tees.

White Tee • Target Jeans • Military Jacket • Leopard Belt • Mules • Wrap Bracelet

Every girl needs a basic white tee in her closet.  I like this style with the classic v-neck, slim shape and small front pocket.  The white one isn’t as opaque as some other white tees I have in my closet, but it’s not sheer either.  It comes in tons of other colors and is only $8 or 2 for $14!

Tee Fit : I’m wearing XS

I was also very interested to try Target jeans since it’s been a million years since I’ve bought jeans there.  After scouring their site, I found this comfy mid rise pair that fit perfectly right away.  They have a bit of stretch and come in short sizes!

Jeans Fit : I’m wearing size 2 Short

The skinny leopard belt was a no brainer!  It adds that pop of pattern to your outfit and looks great with so many things.  This one looks expensive, but is only $17.

I was even impressed with the shoe selection at Target.  The only problem with their shoe department is that the popular styles tend to sell out very quickly.  This heeled mule was really well made, a gorgeous cognac color and definitely on trend with the mule style and wooden block heel.  They are really comfortable with lots of cushion inside.

Mules Fit : TTS

Target Jeans • Camo Tee • Military Jacket • Circle Belt • Wedge Sneakers â€¢ Wrap Bracelet

Same jeans and same style tee, just in the camo version.

Many of you were so disappointed that these wedge sneakers sold out during the #Nsale, but they’re back now fully stocked in all sizes.  Remember to size up in them because they run small.

Target Jeans • Stripe Tee • Circle Belt • Miller Sandals ‘Makeup’ â€¢ Wrap Bracelet

If you’re like me, you can never resist a striped tee.  This one is in a pretty muted blue shade with a crew neck style and 100% cotton.  I like the little detail of the blue trim neck and rolled sleeves to give it a modern look.

Tee Fit : I’m wearing size XS

Stripe Tee â€¢ Belt • White Jeans • Leopard Belt • Wedge Sneakers • Wrap Bracelet • Vest

The striped tee looks great with blue jeans and especially white jeans that I’m not giving up yet – it’s too hot here!  But, in the Fall, I can’t wait to wear this quilted vest.  I love the light dusty rose shade “lilac” and it also comes in grey and black.

Graphic Tank • Jean Shorts • Wedge Sneakers â€¢ Wrap Bracelet

Okay, let’s move onto graphic tees!  Target has so many cute ones and they’re all so soft and easy to wear.  There’s a sentiment for every mood!  This first one says, “tough as a mother” and you don’t have to be a mom to wear it!

Tank Fit : I’m wearing size XS

Cool Mom Tank Top • White Jeans â€¢ Miller Sandals ‘Makeup’ â€¢ Wrap Bracelet

I’m sure my son would disagree, but I dig this “cool mom” tank.   I’d wear it on the first day of school, but I fear he’d never speak to me again! 😉

Tank Fit : I’m wearing size XS

Be Happy Tank • Target Jeans • Circle Belt • Miller Sandals ‘Makeup’ • Wrap Bracelet

Now this is one sentiment I can surely get behind, “be happy”!  Big fat YES to that and even the color is cheerful.

Tank Fit : I’m wearing size XS

V-Neck Plaid Top • Target Jeans • Belt • Booties • Wrap Bracelet

Are you ready to break out the plaid yet?!  A great way to get you there now is with this short sleeve, front tie style top.  It’s cool enough for now, but still has that Fall vibe.  I really like the neckline on this one and the color combo.

Top Fit : I’m wearing size XS

Plaid Button Down • V-Neck Cami • Jean Shorts 25% off • Leopard Mules • Wrap Bracelet

Another way to get your Fall plaid fix now is to wear your flannel button down with a tank/cami and shorts.  This flannel top is in that classic black and white pattern that you can wear so many ways.  And it’s not super heavy, so you won’t be sweating in it now.

Top Fit : I’m wearing size XS

Plaid Button Down • Target Jeans • Leopard Belt • Lace Cami • Peep Toe Booties

And of course, you can add jeans when the weather permits.  A lace trim cami is all the rage for the femininity it adds to your outfit.  There were several great ones in the Nordstrom sale, still available here, but these from Target aren’t far off from a quality, fit and style perspective.

Cami Fit : I’m wearing size XS and the shoulders are adjustable

Button Down • Jean Shorts 25% off • V-Neck Cami • Wrap Bracelet â€¢ Slingback Sandal

I found two MUST HAVE button down tops that are worthy of wearing year round.  The color on this one is oh so good with it’s pale sagey green color they call ‘olive’.  And the fabric is so very soft feeling against your skin and the cut is perfectly modern with the shape, stitching and front pockets.

I like this one so much and see so much styling potential that I’m tempted to also get it in orange and caramel.

Top Fit : I’m wearing size XS

Button Down • Tank Top • Belt • AE Jeans 25% off • Similar Hat â€¢ Slingback Sandal â€¢ Wrap Bracelet

Style Tip : The easiest way to transition your Summer wardrobe to Fall is to add a hat.  The only question is to wear it “up” (on top of your head with your bangs showing) or “down” (worn onto your forehead).  I’ve been experimenting with both looks, but the ‘down’ is better for disguising a bad hair or dirty hair situation.

Top Fit : I’m wearing size XS

Button Down • White Jeans • Tank • Leopard Belt • Miller Sandals ‘Makeup’ â€¢ Booties

Just like the olive top above, I’m crazy for this chambray top too!  That chambrey top, striped tank, white jeans & leopard belt combo will never go out style in my opinion.  Leopard flats are also a great option.  Or switch out the white jeans for black in the Fall and Winter.

The chambray top also looks great with A-line skirts, espeically bright or floral patterned ones.

Button Down Fit : I’m wearing XS

Tank Fit : I’m wearing XS

Peasant Blouse • Black Jeans • Booties • Bootcut Jeans • Nude Pumps • Circle Belt • Similar Hat • Wrap Bracelet

I feel like I need to apologize to this darling peasant blouse for not steaming her and letting her really shine.  She’s probably really embarrassed right now and cursing me under her breath.  The rose pink color is universally flattering and I’m crazy for the feminine detail at the chest with the lace and crochet.

Blouse Fit : I’m wearing size XS

Floral Cami • Satin Skirt • Clear Heels | Black Jeans • Linen Cardi • Circle Belt • Wrap Bracelet

This cami is the same style as the one I showed you above in black, but in a floral pattern.  There’s so many ways to style it, dressing it up or down.

Floral Cami â€¢ Open Cardigan • Black Jeans • OTK Boots • Circle Belt •  • Wrap Bracelet

Tank Top • Linen Cardi • Leopard Belt • Black Jeans • Wrap Bracelet

Like a basic tee, I always feel like I can never have enough basic tanks!  This racerback ribbed style is great, nice and stretchy and fits well.  The white one was more sheer than I prefer, but the striped one was great as well as all the other colors.

Tank Fit : I’m wearing size XS

SWEATSHIRTS & SWEATERS

Sweatshirt • Tee • Target Jeans • Similar Leopard Sneakers • Wrap Bracelet

Is is sweatshirt season yet?!  I swear I live in sweatshirts when I’m working at home or running around on the weekends- it’s just so easy and comfortable and I tend to get chilly indoors.  I like how this one already looks and feels lived in, right out of the box!  I was drawn to the vibrant red, but the camo is really good too.

Sweatshirt Fit : I’m wearing size XS

Open Cardigan • Jean Shorts 25% off • V-Neck Cami • Snakeskin Mule • Wrap Bracelet

If you’re ready for cardigan season but it’s too hot, wear it with shorts!  This pair is from AE, but the cute snakeskin slides are from Target.  All that reptile print is so hot for Fall shoes, you’ll be seeing it everywhere.  These shoes also come in leopard (really nice!) and tan (they weren’t my fave), but they are very comfortable and only $25!   I have a feeling these will go fast, so order now if you want to ensure you get your size.

Cardigan Size : I’m wearing size XS

Open Front Cardigan • V-Neck Cami • Jean Shorts 25% off • Slingback Sandal • Wrap Bracelet

This cardigan is another MUST HAVE for now and later.  It’s a large cable knit, open style with double front pockets and looks great over a tank, tee, dress or with a skirt.  It also comes in 5 colors for under $25.  That’s a great deal for a cardigan of this quality and style.

Cardigan Fit : I’m wearing size XS, but I’d size up if you want it looser fitting

Tank • AE Jeans 25% off • Cardigan • Slingback Sandal • Similar Hat â€¢ Wrap Bracelet

Amazon Sweater • Similar Hat • AE Jeans 25% off • Slingback Sandal • Wrap Bracelet

I’m sneaking an Amazon sweater in here because it’s such a great price and goes perfectly with this budget-friendly post!  It’s an oversized fit that’s meant to be worn off the shoulder, but I like it on one shoulder too.  If you want to be extra sassy, wear your lacey bralette underneath and let a little be peek through! 😉

KIMONO

Tank • Kimono • Target Jeans • Circle Belt • Miller Sandals ‘Makeup’ â€¢ Wrap Bracelet

I was slow to warm up to the kimono trend but I’m all about it now!  I love the layered, airy look you get without the heaviness of a cardigan.  Kimonos come in every color, pattern and length, so it’s just a matter of personal preference.  My favorite way to wear them is with jeans or shorts and a tank or tee underneath.  Simple is still chic!

This kimono ties on the side and is meant to be long, although at 5’1 I’m sure it’s longer on me than it would be on most people.

Kimono Fit : I’m wearing size XS/S

Tie Tank • Jean Shorts • Rockstud Sandals • Bootcut Jeans • Similar Hat • Clutch • Kimono • Nude Pumps â€¢ Wrap Bracelet

When I pulled this tank out of the box, I thought it would be too short, but turns out, it wasn’t.  I’ve ordered similar ones on Amazon that were huge, so I appreciate that this one is smaller.  It’s a waffle knit texture and pre-tied.

Tank Fit : I’m wearing size XS and it’s fitted

DRESSES

Dress • Rockstud Sandals • Wrap Bracelet

You guys! I was crazy about this dress!  So much so that I wore it the same day it arrived!  And guess what, it’s only $20! The beauty of it is that it’s a sundress style that fits beautifully, but in an almost flannel like fabric that lends itself to Fall.  I wore it with sandals in August, but had fun styling it for cooler temps below.  I didn’t show a sneaker option, but that would work too and be cute with a jean shirt tied around your waist.

Dress Fit : I’m wearing size XS

Similar Hat • Open Cardigan • Boots • Jean Jacket • Slingback Sandal • Wrap Bracelet

Dress • Wedges • Wrap Bracelet

Boho style dresses are a secret obsession of mine.  I love them so much!  I have several awesome ones from Amazon, mostly above the knee, but I adore this maxi one too.  The floral print is beautiful and I like the Fall-inspired colors.  You could wear this to church, PTO, the farmer’s market, or to brunch.

Dress Fit : I’m wearing size XS

Leopard Print Dress • Cami • Similar Bag • Peep Toe Booties • Circle Belt • Black Pumps (the best!) • Wrap Bracelet

How fun is this work option?!  I clearly remember the struggle of dressing for work in an office everyday, but this dress is something I would have loved to wear.  The print is bold, but not offensive.

The dress isn’t lined, but I didn’t feel like it needed to be because the fabric is quite substantial.  It comes with a matching belt, but you could switch it out for a solid black belt to break up the print. I layered a black lace trim cami underneath to give it a bit more interest. Which look do you prefer?

Dress Fit : I’m wearing size XS and it was big on me, would prefer XXS

Stripe Dress • Circle Belt • Long Cardigan • Leopard Heels • Wrap Bracelet

It’s hard to tell from a photo, but this striped dress is a very nice, thicker material that has a great weight to it.  It’s also nice and stretchy with shoulder straps that will definitely hide your bra straps.  The fit and flare style flatters every figure and you can have fun belting it with different colored and varying width belts.

I was pleasantly surprised by these leopard pumps.  The leopard print looks great and they fit my foot well.  They look and feel way more expensive than their $30 price tag.

Dress Fit : I’m wearing size XS

Shoes Fit : TTS

JUMPSUIT

Jumpsuit • Wrap Bracelet

Oh my goodness, I’m in LOVE with this jumpsuit.  It’s that soft brushed fleecy material that we’ve been spoiled with!  The top is so fun with the ruched sleeves and little shoulder tie.  The waist is elastic with a functional drawstring and it has pockets!

Jumpsuit Fit : I’m wearing size XS

JAMMIES

Pajama Set

This pajama set rivals the one in the Nordstrom sale.  It’s a shorts and top set for only $22.  It might be hard to tell on your screen, but this pair is black with a pale pink trim.  It’s beyond soft and the fit is perfect!

Pajama Fit : I’m wearing size XS

  1. I primarily shop our local boutiques. When we travel, we search for all the local shops, eateries, and even lodging options (when possible). I also prefer the touch experience, so rarely shop on-line. That’s not to say that I don’t thoroughly enjoy your posts though, and am in awe of the dedication you pour into each article <3 When I do shop on-line, I want to give you or Hi Sugarplum the credit for all you do!! As a matter of fact, I'm waiting for your favorite strapless bra to restock in my size!!
I love this post, for all the inspiration!!! Thank you for all your hard work! It does not go unnoticed <3

  2. I’ve had really good luck with the Universal Thread jeans at Target. I got a pair last year, cut the hem to shorten and roughen it up (an idea I got from you!) and wore them all year. They laundered well and stayed comfortable. They go on sale for insanely low prices and are definitely worth the money.

  3. Your posts are great, so helpful, informative and fun! I love how many things you try on. One thing I’m always curious about, and am wondering if you’d be willing to share in some posts, is which pieces you actually decide to keep from the try-on and why! I can tell from this post it seems like you kept the $20 dress, but were there any others? I know some pieces might be great and you just don’t keep them because you already have something similar, so maybe hearing your reasons for what you decide to keep / not keep and why would be super helpful! Thanks for all the fun and useful posts!

    1. Oh that’s a good point because I definitely don’t keep everything – I’d go broke! I usually put in the return pile the ‘work’ styles since I don’t go to an office anymore and definitely anything that didn’t fit me perfectly. There’s a lot I want to keep from this order – off the top of my head the jeans, tees, plaid tops, camisoles, 2 solid button downs, cardigan, pajamas and jumpsuit!

  4. Love the pink peasant blouse and that pink dress. I loved how you styled the pink dress and the flannel shirt…super cute. I loved that you showed Red Dress Boutique in your stories – it’s one of my favorite sites for cute tops and dresses.

    1. I thought their site had tons of cute things too! I’m gonna keep checking because some things sell out so fast so I need to share when they’re first released! I also put one top on my waitlist because it was so cute!

  5. bought the pajama set in the spring and will never pay the nordstrom price again – these are so good

    1. Aren’t they! I almost bought the Nordstrom PJs for all the girls on our trip to San Antonio, but I needed several sizes and they didn’t have them at my store. Now I’m glad I didn’t because I found this pair!

  6. Great lineup! And as someone that follows too many blogs, I’m really happy to see something that’s not Nordstrom or Amazon at this point. Can’t wait for some cooler weather and fall clothes.

Since you asked- never, never ever wear your hat on the back of your head. I see young people (I’m around your age) doing it but I figure they don’t know better. If you need hat inspiration, look to the Brits or even the American west.

  7. Hi Megan, I’m loving this post!!! I have been buying more and more clothes from target recently, because they offer lots of budget friendly yet trendy pieces! Please continue target posts! I have another idea for you-express has some very fun yet tasteful things especially for work wear!! That’s a go to for me for work pants and tops! Have a great weekend!

    1. Oh yes! I like Express too but often forget about it! I used to buy their button down tops for work and loved the cut of them. They also have great sales!

  8. Love getting all your emails and looking at your great styling! I am always inspired by you! Love Target for great stuff – they have upped their game again recently!

Thanks for all the work you do on your posts!

    1. Thanks so much Cathy, that’s the biggest compliment! I haven’t shopped Target for clothes in awhile and I was impressed with all the cute things! There are still that haven’t arrived yet, so I’ll show you those soon!

  9. I have those pajamas from Target and they are so soft! They are very similar to the pajamas from Nordstrom, come in a few colors, but are half the price.

  10. You should be a model for Target or at least help them with their advertising pictures. Sometimes I swear it’s not the same clothes- you make them look fabulous. Thank you!

  11. Question-Thank you for all you do! Longtime reader and follower, question, Target belts, did they fit perfect or were they a little large? I’m between a 0-2 and usually my belt sizes are x small, curious how they fit you since we are a similar size. Thank you in advance!

  12. Hi, I love this post. So many cute and reasonably priced things! Do you happen to know what color the tank is (plain on, not tie front) that you showed with the kimono? There were a few on the Target website that looked similar. I love that exact color with the kimono. Thanks so much for the inspiration!
