Easy Natural Makeup Tutorial | DRUGSTORE PRODUCTS ONLY

Good morning and Happy 4th of July!  I hope you spend the day celebrating with people you love.  I’m so grateful to live in America and be able to take advantage of everything our great country has to offer.  Thank you, thank you to everyone of you that serves our country so that we can live in the land of the free!

DRUGSTORE MAKEUP TUTORIAL

Last month, I shared my easy, everyday makeup routine with you and I got lots of requests to do a similar look using only drugstore products. I went on the hunt at Target, Walgreens and Amazon, since I know those stores are accessible to almost all of us.  After weeks of testing products and much trial and error, I found several great products that I highly recommend.

I’m detailing everything I used to create the natural makeup look below and sharing a live video tutorial saved to my Instagram Story Highlights.

FACE

Primer

I’ve never used primer before, but heard rave reviews about this one and I agree! I have large pores, mostly on my cheeks, and this primer helps fill them in so that your makeup goes on super smooth and your pores are blurred out.  A tiny bit goes a long way and leaves your skin looking fresh and glowy.

Concealer Pen

This concealer goes on a bit more liquidy than my ride-or-die Charlotte Tilbury Concealer but has good coverage for brightening your under eyes, along the bridge of your nose and in the center of your forehead.

Pressed Powder

I always prefer a full coverage pressed powder as opposed to liquid foundation, unless it’s a special occasion, because foundation tends to irritate my skin.  This pressed powder gave the full coverage I like, while being vegan, cruelty free and oil absorbing.  I also like the round sponge that came with it- better than a fluffy powder puff for applying evenly.  I’m wearing the color “Fair.”  It’s also worth noting that the packaging is very sleek – perfect for pulling out and powdering your nose.

Contour Palette

This three-shade contour pallet has your contour color, highlight and blush all in one.  The color was just right on my skin and also buildable depending on how deep you want to go.  The highlighter isn’t too shiny, but does brighten your skin and the blush is a pretty pinky shade.

Melani Contour & Highlight Palette

I was influenced by influencers and bought this contour palette because I’d heard such great things about it.  Lots of women use only this palette to do both their face and eyes.  When I first used it, I thought the dark shade was far too orange.  But, when I used the contour first, then applied just a bit of the Malani Contour on top of it, I thought it gave a nice warm glow – much more like a bronzer than a contour.

Light Bronzer

If you don’t want to use several products to contour and add color to your cheeks, this all-in-one light bronzer is the best of both worlds. If you swirl you blush brush to mix the colors, it creates a natural warm glow to the skin that doesn’t look overdone.

Blush

Another great blush is this one also by Milani.  I thought the “Coral Cove” would be too intense, but I really like it on – it’s a bright peachy color.  For the look above in the picture, I used “Tea Rose,” which is more mauve.

EYES

Ultimate Eyeshadow Palette

For eyes, this 16 color “Warm Neutral” eyeshadow palette is awesome.  There’s every color you will need to create depth and make your eyes look natural or more smokey.

Eyeliner

I typically like a soft brown eyeliner to line my upper and lower lash lines, then blend with a soft brush so there’s no harsh lines.  This liner is really pretty for accentuating your eyes and blends easily.  I’m wearing the color “Golden Bronze”.

Mascara

I’m super particular about my mascara and the brush has to be full and lush.  I like big, bold lashes.  Here, I have lash extensions, but they are about halfway due for a refill, so I used a little bit of this mascara to make them look filler and I also used it on my lower lashes.

BROWS

Stay Put Brow Color

I’ve become obsessed with creme brow color for the natural way it fills in and defines your brows.  Even though my brows are microbladed, I still fill them in for a more defined, polished look.  I used this creme color and love the spoolie and sharp angled brush it came with for applying.  It lets you get a very precise application.

LIPS

Elf Multistick

Daaanng!  There are so many lip choices and colors at Target that I’m pretty sure I went overboard ordering!  For the light everyday look above, I’m wearing the Elf Multistick in “Sparking Rose.”

It’s a little stick that you can use on your eyes, cheeks and lips to bring color to your face.  I used it on my lips and then added a bit to my cheeks.  It’s easy to apply with just your fingers and very blendable.  I’ll definitely take this with me next time I go on a beach vacay.  It’ll be the only product you need to liven up your face!  And guess what?  It’s only $4!

Then, I added a little bit of this shiny lipstick to give a bit of sheen to my lips in the color “Dulce Caramelo”.

Setting Spray

This setting spray is LIFE!  Not only does it set your makeup for hours, I feel like my skin gets way less oily during the day when I use it.  Reading the ingredients closer, it has oil absorbing charcoal Charcoal powder and Silica to control shine and mattify for 16 hours.  To use : after you’ve applied all your makeup, hold the bottle about 1o inches from your face, relax your face and close your eyes, then spray all over.  It actually has a really pleasant scent too, like rose petals.

Okay friends, I hope this makeup tutorial was helpful for you!  It took me a while to source eveything, but I really enjoyed trying out all these products and finding the good ones!  Would you want to see more beauty posts here?  What are your favorite drugstore makeup products? I’d love to hear!

Have a fun and safe holiday!

  1. Love, love, love this look! You look so fresh and youthful. Lip color is especially pretty- which color of the multistick did you use?

  2. Charcoal, charcoal powder and silica??!! That’s horrible for your skin!! You obviously didn’t do research on the dangers of these ingredients on your skin!!

  3. Thanks for sharing Megan! One of my first jobs in highschool was at a drugstore and I used to leave at least half of my paycheque each week behind…when the store wasn’t busy, I would “tidy” up the beauty section and always find new things to try! I am a big fan of the Pixi line at Target, as well as E.L.F. – they have amazing and green products for a really great price point! I just bought the honest mascara last week and it comes with a built in primer on one end and mascara on the other. Have a great rest of your week! xoxo

  4. Hi Megan. I don’t live in the States so I’m not in the market for these products but I did watch the highlights video for tips on application. I appreciate that you went and found products off your own back and did the work for a products post that isn’t sponsored. I understand that sponsored posts are vital to bloggers but sometimes it can feel disingenuous when they are overdone (that’s not a criticism). It’s great that you are trying to give your followers what they are looking for, even if there’s no sponsor in it for you. I love the variety of stuff you post.

    1. Thanks so much for that honest feedback Aoife and I do agree with you. Where are you reading from? I love that we can connect across the miles.
