24 Hours in NYC & JUNE REWIND

Happy Friday friends!  This is definitely one of those months where I look up and go, “where did it go??”  June seemed to fly by, but we sure squeezed every ounce of pleasure out of it!  Today’s post is a recap of the 24 hours Shannon and I spent in NYC this week and of the whole month in case you missed it.

Definitely sign up for my newsletter if you want to be sure to never miss a post.  I also send my subscribers a special edition weekend newsletter with sneak peeks, healthy recipes and hot sales.

24 Hours in New York City

Earlier this week, Shannon and I flew to NYC to get a sneak peek of the women’s fashion that will be included in Amazon Prime Day on July 15 & 16. I can’t share all the goodies with you until then, but you’ll definitely want to mark your calendars!

Our flight was scheduled to leave Houston at 7:05 am on Tuesday morning, and thankfully we squeezed onto the plane with only one minute to spare!  That was the closest I’ve ever cut it and I hope to never do that again! #stressful

It was Shannon’s first time in the city, so we had 24 hours to visit Amazon, and see all.the.things!

Of course, I traveled in my new Amazon tank jumpsuit that’s not only super comfy, but also great for sprinting through airports. 😉

As soon as we got in, we headed to the quaint Warwick Hotel near Central Park.  A quick outfit change for lunch at Rue 57 (I had the tuna tartare and truffle fries- both fantastic), an iced cappuccino at Pret A Manger and a bit of strolling through Central Park before heading to the Amazon headquarters in Brooklyn.

This leopard print skirt is also from Amazon and under $15!  I think y’all might have already sold this exact pattern out, called “white” but there’s several other cute prints, including florals.

The tank is actually a bodysuit with tummy control and so you’ll feel super slim in it all day.

AMAZON PRIME DAY

The event was cool with a glam squad, champagne and loads of photo opps.  I got to see a sampling of the deals Amazon will have – but that all has to wait! I ran into Jean Wang, a fellow petite blogger that I have followed for the longest time and she is just as wonderful as I’d hoped she be!  For years I’ve admired her work and have also followed her pregnancy journey, so it was wonderful to get to chat and selfie together!  You’ll crack up when you get to see the video soon!

From the Brooklyn studio, we went back to the city.

Since it was Shannon’s first trip to NYC, we were on a mission to catch as many sites as we could. We started at The Plaza – ate Black & White cookies at William Greenberg and shopped the Eloise store.  If you have little girls – or are one at heart – you’ll love this pink girlie playground.  You can even host a tiny tea party there!

Eloise at the Plaza

Then we strolled past Carnegie Hall, down to Times Square and over to Rockefeller Center. We posed with a toy soldier at FAO Schwartz, waited for Tom Holland from Spiderman to leave 30 Rock (we never saw him) and then shopped at the NBC store.

dinner at serafina

Then it was definitely time to freshen up. We traded the Houston humidity for NYC’s version and I was a stinky mess after hours of walking.

Side note : my Tory Burch Miller Sandals held up better than Shannon’s Sam Edelman Gigi Sandals for all 8 miles that we walked – both were good, but mine were still comfy at the end of the day!

After a brief rest and clean up we got ready for a 10pm dinner – we were definitely on New York time!

Wore this cute dress and wedges for dinner at Serafina (your recommendation!) and got to walk through Times Square at night. We had to get pasta and it did not disappoint. Mine was the truffle tagliatelle with shrimp.  It was seriously divine and the smell was intoxicating.

We met up with Shannon’s friend Sarah (see Stories for a funny story about seeing her on the street from our uber in the middle of the day) and shut down the restaurant at midnight.

After a really full day, we slept in on Wednesday morning and went for a walk to see just a few more New York things.

We walked by the Empire State building to get to Eataly, across from the Flat Iron building. After perusing the market food and grabbing a pastry (and more coffee) we Ubered back past Grand Central Station to get our bags and head home.

Thankfully, we made it to the airport with plenty of time for our departure and didn’t have to run with our luggage!

I wish we would have made more of an effort to schedule out a few things, but we definitely made the most of Shannon’s first 24 hours ever in New York.  When you only have a little bit of time you don’t get to go inside the landmarks and just get to see stuff from the street – but it’s still exciting to see everything and all the people in the city!

Would you be interested in seeing more posts about how to make a quick trip to a different city?! Any suggestions on where to go next?!  Shannon & I are up for the adventure! 😉

STYLE

I love to take one piece and style it in different ways. This, to me, is what blogging is all about. Getting to see items styled more than just how you see them on the website. This Leopard Print Midi Skirt is way more versatile than you would think!

  1. Maybe Miami? We’re planning to do Christmas in Florida and I’ve never been, so that would be interesting for me to get some ideas! 😉

  2. I so appreciate how you’ve kept your voice over the years. While you have partnerships and certainly are good at getting me to click over and shop :), your blog is so much more than just links to fashion options. Thanks for sharing so much – your family memories, your likes and dislikes, travel, home decor, and fun with your friends. It really makes a difference and keeps me coming back!

    1. I agree with this comment. I know that blogging is a job but it’s a gift to balance shopping links with useful information and an atmosphere of community. Some blogs sadly turn into one long commercial for shopping all day every day and that’s the point I have to stop following along, I don’t feel it’s good for keeping a positive attitude or for my wallet lol. Thanks for keeping it the way you do!

    2. That’s a huge compliment Tiffany. I still love blogging as much as I did when I first started almost 10 years ago. It’s really wild to see how it’s evolved and changed over the years. When I started, it wasn’t a business at all- just a hobby. I sometimes cringe at those old photos, but it’s also sweet to have those memories and to see how much I’ve learned over the years. I also love getting to visually document all these things in our lives and look back on them. There’s posts from when James was just 4 months old! Thank you so much for visiting often, I appreciate it so much.
