10 Handy Household Things You Need from Amazon

Good morning friends!  I hope you had an awesome weekend!  Ours was wet and dreary, but the game still went on.  Jordan had fun!  She’s wearing her big brother’s old uniform (including the cleats) and I thought she looked so cute! She can’t wait til it’s her turn to play!

10 HANDY HOUSEHOLD THINGS

I really hope today’s post is useful for you!  It’s not fashion focused (go here to see my latest Amazon fashion post), but will definitely help you solve problems around your house.  I have 10 handy household things to share with you- all of which I use on a regular basis and highly recommend!  Here’s the quick list :

Cardboard Cutter

Garment Steamer

Glass Straws

Quake Hold

Softest Bed Sheets Ever

Scarf Hanger

Rubber Dish Gloves

Meal Prep Containers

Dyson V8 Animal Cordless Stick Vacuum

Baskets

CARDBOARD CUTTER

If you take advantage of online shopping, you know the struggle is real with all the cardboard shipping boxes.  I try to reduce as much as I can by selecting “send things in one” package, but because I do so much ordering online, I end up with loads of cardboard boxes.

They used to pile up for months and would taunt me in the pantry or garage as the mound got bigger and bigger.  Also, in our neighborhood, we get one large recycling bin and the pickup is only twice a month.  I could never fit everything in the bin!  Until now!

I want to scream about this genius baby from the rooftops!  It’s a battery powered cardboard cutter that is so easy to use and cuts your cardboard like a breeze!

  • It comes with a battery that holds a charge for months- you just plug it in to charge
  • Has a self-sharpening blade to ensure a precise cut every time
  • Cuts through a variety of materials – handles jobs scissors and knives can’t
  • Lock-out switch works in conjunction with the trigger for increased safety
  • Lightweight for easy control
  • Soft grip handle

I’ll put a video on Stories to show how easy it is to use.  I reduced the entire pile below in about 10 minutes!!

GARMENT STEAMER

If your wrinkled clothes sit in your closet unworn because you hate ironing, I have an awesome solution for you! I started with a mini steamer that worked well, but only ironed a few pieces before I had to add more water.

This steamer is a biggie that holds 61 oz of water so you can steam a whole month’s worth of outfits without having to add more water!  The tank heats up within 60 seconds and lasts an hour!

More importantly, it works super well (over 3,000 positive reviews!) and gets all the wrinkles out with just steam!

The steamer is on wheels and also collapses easily to save space.  I love how you can hang you clothes from the top – it comes with a garment hanger, but I like just hanging my own hangers on it.

GLASS STRAWS

If y’all have been following me for long, you know that one of the things I do every morning is fill up 2 big jugs of water to drink throughout the day.  I have a Yeti and an Artic that I use and I keep one upstairs and one downstairs.  It helps me remember to drink my water.

Now, this might seem silly, but I prefer to drink from a straw as opposed to the drinking hole in the jug.  And I’m particular about my straws.  I don’t like them too skinny, definitely not paper #yuk, and I don’t want to have to keep buying them over and over.

Glass Straws

This set of 8 glass straws are the perfect size (10″ long x 10 mm), come in both a straight and bent style and fit both my Artic and Yeti.  They also come with a cleaning brush and are dishwasher safe.  You can use them like I do for water, but also for thicker drinks like smoothies and milkshakes.  I wasn’t sure how I’d like using a glass straw but I absolutely love it!  They are so pretty too!

QUAKE HOLD

If you’ve ever had a stubborn hanging picture that kept tilting to one side, the fix is actually quite simple! Put a small amount of this genius putty on the back of the frame and it will stay put without harming your walls.

It’s what I used at the lower corners of this large piece of art that hung safely over Jordan’s crib for almost 3 years!

SOFTEST BED SHEETS EVER

If you buy one thing from this post, make it these sheets!  A good night’s sleep is so important, and when you crawl into bed at the end of the day, you’ll want to feel these sheets against your skin!

They are the softest sheets ever and 51,000 positive reviewers agree!

We have them on every bed in our house, even both kids! When we went to San Antonio with the kids, James said we should have brought our own pillows because even he prefers these sheets and pillowcases.

They are lightweight, wrinkle resistant, and hypoallergenic.  The set comes with the fitted and flat sheet and two pillowcases for just $29 (king size).  I’ve had mine for years now and they wash and machine dry well.

I love the white, but they come in a rainbow of colors.

DYSON V8 ANIMAL CORDLESS STICK VACUUM

You guys actually recommended this next one to me!  I’m sure you’ve heard me singing it’s praises if you’ve been here a minute.  I was OVER lugging out the big corded vacuum to sweep up all the crumbs under my kids chairs.  (I swear does any food even make it into their mouths??)

This lightweight cordless stick vac is a GAME CHANGER!  When I went online to research and buy one, I was surprised at how pricey it is, but let me tell you, it’s worth it!  I use mine every day to quickly vacuum the floors, but I also use the attachments to get areas like stairs, drawers, air vents, car and corners all clean.

It’s super easy to empty the dirt and debris into the trash can.  I keep the battery charged and it’s never died on me while I’m using it.  Better yet, my kids like using it, so I find James vacuuming the couch cushions after he’s eaten toast on there!

RUBBER DISH GLOVES

If you’re like me and prefer to wear gloves when washing dishes and cleaning the counters, then I have the best gloves to share with you! I can’t stand what the water does to my hands with drying them out and how the gross stuff feels in my hands, not to mention our hot water gets really hot.

I’ve tried lots of pairs over the years and these are the ones I like the best! They are nice and thick and feel silky smooth on the inside, without any peeling if you know what I mean.

They also have a non-slip design and nice grip.  They’re 13-inches long, so your hands and arms stay dry and no water leaks into the gloves (I hate that!!).

I’m also crazy for the pretty color!  And they last forever!  You don’t have to keep buying them every month.

Finally, they are made from a latex free, BPA free and Phthalate free vinyl material.

SCARF HANGER

I didn’t have time to snap a new pic, but you get the idea from this old one!  This sturdy metal “tie” hanger holds a ton of scarves and hangs right on your closet rack.  I never knew how to organize and display my scarves, but this way works really well.

Just be careful if you have very delicate scarves that they don’t get punctured by ends.

MEAL PREP CONTAINERS

Lots of have asked where I get my meal prep containers and most of mine are saved from take out over the years.  BUT, I found super similar ones on Amazon.

They have several styles (one compartment or one with dividers) whichever you prefer.  I have the single ones, but I the divided ones would also be helpful for keeping things separated and measured.

This set comes with 20 for just $17 with free shipping.

They’re BPA free, stackable (so helpful in the fridge), reuseable, and you can put them in the microwave, freezer and dishwasher.

They hold 28 oz (3.5 cups) which is the perfect size for one meal.

STAIR BASKETS

Did you know Amazon’s basket game was STRONG?!  I had no idea!  Of course, I use baskets all over my house- they hold toys, blankets, magazines, etc.  But one of my favorite uses is as stair bins to keep our stairs walkable.  If not for the stair bins, we’d have things cluttering up the first several steps, which isn’t only ugly, it’s dangerous!

Now if only a basket fairy would come visit my home and empty them for me!

You can search Amazon for all kinds of baskets to fit your needs.  They have rattan, woven, rope style and more:  These caught my eye : onetwothreefourfivesix (fits Ikea shelves) • seven

  1. LOVE LOVE this post! I can always use new household handy items! Question about your glass straws….are they breakable or fragile? Thanks! <3

    1. Great question! I’m sure you could break them, but I haven’t and they are not fragile. I’ve bumped them on the counter and not even a scratch. They’re on the thick side!

  2. I can vouch for the sheets as well. They’re wonderful and I’ve gotten them for every bed in the house now! I’m loving the box cutter and the scarf hanger. Thanks!

  3. I too have those sheets on my daughter’s bed and guest bed. They are too hot for the summer months in the Southwest, though as the material doesn’t breath. I have to have a different sheet set for the summer months.

  4. I want the Dyson V8 cordless so bad! We’re getting our first tiled floor installed in our master bath next week and I’m pretty sure I need that cordless vac! We have a Dyson upright but lugging it, yeah, a pain. I liked hearing about the dish gloves as well…my teenagers also do not like touching the gross dishes/dishwater…maybe I should get them a pair for their Easter baskets LOL!
