Honey We’re Healthy Fitness eBook Coming in January!

Good morning friends! I’m waking up so very excited to announce something BIG with you here!

Especially in this last year, I’ve had a deep desire to CREATE something of meaningful value and spread my positive message of Take Care of You further.  Those of you that have been with me for long, know that my dear Grandma Nola is responsible for helping me realize that taking care of ourselves isn’t selfish. It’s necessary and a form of self love and self respect.  What a gift she gave to me!

circa 1984 in Hawaii

My Grandma lived a vivacious and vibrant life until the age of 91, when she recently went to be with the Lord.  Although I miss her terribly, she was ready to go and I’m so thankful we got to visit again in person last month.  She met Jordan for the first time and we had some special alone time where we got to talk openly and share our love.

She meant the world to me and I’m still trying to process the loss, but I’m thankful for the memories and lessons she imparted into my life.  I feel like I’m part of her legacy, trying to live a life I’m proud of and feel good about.  I make efforts to heed her wise advice: Take Care of YOU and I encourage you to do the same.

After interviewing doctors and health experts for breast cancer awareness month, all of them said that healthy eating, exercising, and strength training were #1 in staying healthy and strong and warding off disease and illness.  And they ALL reiterated that we need to take better care of ourselves!  Every time one of them said that in an interview, it was confirmation to me that this message needs to be spread!

WHAT WILL BE IN THE EBOOK?

I know one of the biggest challenges we face is, HOW DO WE MAKE TIME for ourselves when we have so many demands and such busy lives.  I’ll go step by step to show you where you can make time in your day for quick, effective workouts, and how to plan and prep healthy meals in advance, so you’re not spending hours in the kitchen each week.

In the next couple of months, I’ll be testing out the recipes to make sure they are YUMMY and EASY to replicate at home!  We will also have vegetarian and vegan meal options.

I’ve been doing the WORKOUTS we are creating and let me tell you, they are GOOD!  These workouts are meant for you to do at home with no special equipment, but a good set of weights will help.

I’m so excited to see the changes to my body and energy levels and get your feedback along the way.

THANK YOU!

These passion project seeds wouldn’t have been planted without the awesome community we’ve created here. I’m so honored to be able to share this journey with you and I can’t wait for you to get your hands on this FITNESS eBOOK in the new year!

TAKE CARE OF YOU : STARTING SMALL

If you know you need to take better care of yourself, but don’t know where to begin, I suggest starting small.  You don’t have to do a whole lifestyle overhaul in one day.  Start making minor adjustments, and over time, they will add up to big results.

When I feel overwhelmed or like I need a fitness reset, I go back to the basics: drinking water, taking vitamins, and getting enough sleep.

DRINK LOTS OF WATER

Ever since the new year, I’ve made a point to drink the recommended 64 oz of water daily.  I don’t always make it, but I try.  I always fill up three big water bottles in morning and place them throughout my house so they’re always handy.

The reason drinking water is important is for hydration (which reduces fatigue, improves endurance, lowers your max heart rate) and to maintain the balance of fluids in your body. It also assists in flushing out toxins, keeping your skin looking good, your bowels working properly, and helps reduce headaches. If I don’t drink enough water in the day, I usually wake up with a headache.

TAKE YOUR VITAMINS

Another small but powerful thing you can do for yourself is start taking a multivitamin regularly.  It’s a little act of self care that can have big results.  Even if we eat relatively well with lots of fruits and veggies, chances are, we aren’t getting all of the vitamins and minerals our bodies need.

Vitamins

I mentioned last month that I’m making more efforts to use natural products, like with my deodorant and vitamins.  I’m a work in progress and know there are lots of things I use that could be more natural, but like I mentioned above- baby steps!

I didn’t even realize that the vitamins I was taking had synthetic ingredients until I looked at the label one day. And my old vitamins had in the ingredient list “glucose syrup, sugar, and gelatin.”  I really don’t want or need that in my vitamins.

Our bodies don’t absorb those nutrients, so it’s not really helping.  In fact, it could be upsetting your stomach!  The all natural vitamin I’ve been taking, New Chapter Every Woman 40+, is fully absorbable.

New Chapter Every Woman 40+ is formulated with certified organic veggies & herbs, and fermented with probiotics and whole foods – making the nutrients more vital and available for your body to absorb.  The New Chapter Every Woman 40+ is gluten free, 100% vegetarian, with no artificial flavors or colors.

I take my multivitamin at the same time every morning so I’m in the habit and always remember.  The good thing is, these are gentle enough to take on an empty stomach.

I also appreciate that New Chapter Every Woman 40+ is specifically made for women over 40 (I’m 43).  At my age, I have to think about bone, hormone and digestion support, all of which this vitamin contains.  If you’re still in your 30s or younger, New Chapter also makes a variety of vitamins that might fit your health needs better.  They even have a prenatal vitamin for those who are pregnant or planning to be.

One more thing, it’s super convenient that you can put these vitamins to your cart on Amazon while you’re adding things like dry shampoo, the softest bedsheets ever, mini steamer, and meal prep containers.  If you missed it, check out my latest Amazon fashion haul here.

GET ADEQUATE SLEEP

Sleep is a big one.  If you aren’t getting enough sleep, you’re going to feel lousy during the day, and most likely compound the problem with poor food choices.  #beenthere

It’s typically recommended that we get 7-9 hours of sleep a night.  I know I do really well with 8, but can get away with 7.  Figure out how much sleep you will aim for, then get in bed at least 30 minutes before that and turn off the lights and electronics.

My best advice is to set a certain sleep and wake up time so that you can start to get your body on track- even on weekends.  Waking up before my kids is one of the best things I’ve done for my life.  I can get lots of things accomplished before their little eyes even open, and then I don’t feel like I’m playing catch up all day.  If you’ve been wanting to try to wake up earlier, now is a great time to do it since Daylight Savings has ended.  You’re body will think it’s still sleeping later!

Finally, our bodies don’t function optimally when we’re exhausted.  We need our rest to refuel and recharge.

I hope these tips help you on your own Take Care of You journey. Even if you just start incorporating water, vitamins and sleep to your daily routine, I promise you, you’ll feel so much better! Then, we can start building on that momentum.

Are you as excited for the Fitness eBook as I am?! I know my Grandma would be so proud. Let me know in the comments what your fitness/health struggles are so we can incorporate those solutions into the book!

Thank you to New Chapter and Amazon for sponsoring today’s post.

  4. Thank you for the post! I’m in a place where I need to start taking baby steps. I went to add the vitamins to my cart but saw the big warning label and was shocked! Why would someone take a vitamin that has a warning label saying it contains lead and may cause cancer. I think I’ll skip the vitamin but will start with the water and look forward to your ebook.

    1. Hi Christina, thanks for bringing that to my attention! I reached out to NewChapter about those concerns and they explained that warning is an error and they are working to correct it.

“Amazon has added the Prop 65 to this product in error, and New Chapter is actively working with Amazon to correct this. You can verify that this product is not part of that list by checking the Prop 65 website here: https://www.p65warnings.ca.gov/ . As well, please feel free to verify this by checking the product page on the New Chapter website, link included here: https://www.newchapter.com/products/vitamins/every-womans-one-daily-multivitamin/

  5. So sorry for your loss, strength and prayers to you and your family. This eBook will be such a nice way to remember her and to motivate and help so many other women. I’m so looking forward to kicking of 2019 with some extra help to make it a successful year in the “self care” department!

  6. I know I have a choice and I don’t have to visit your page, but I am so tired of “sponsored” posts. I know this is your job and you need to make money…. I just wanted you to know why I am no longer a fan. This post began as a sweet tribute to your grandma and the next thing I know, you are selling me something!

    1. Thanks for taking the time to write Jennifer, and for your condolences on my Grandma. We miss her terribly. I plan my blog content in advance so that I’m always writing the posts I want to write. If a sponsorship opportunity happens to fit naturally within the post I was planning, I will add it. It’s always my goal for my posts to have heart and value, regardless of sponsorship. You are always welcome here.

  7. Your grandmother sounded liked a special lady. I’m so glad you have the special memories of your visit last month. You are in my thoughts. But, so excited about the book announcement!! I have daily chronic migraines and unfortunately the migraines make it hard to exercise on regular basis. Your fitness challenges made me realize that I could tackle 20 minutes of walking on my better days and were a great motivation.

    1. That is something that I know is so hard to deal with as one of my good friends goes through the same thing. I do hope that starting walking helps! It’s what helped lift me out of the ‘baby blues’ after I had Jordan. I was starting to notice that I was feeling “off” and as soon as I started going outside in the fresh air and walking, the fog lifted and so did my spirits.

  8. Megan, I am so sorry for your loss! Given her influence of the importance of “taking care of you”, it seems very appropriate that you dedicate your post on health and nutrition and the announcement of this e-book in your Grandma’s memory. Thank you for always providing value to those who follow your blog post. I am looking forward to your e-book and what is to come in your blog for 2019. In the meantime, I wish you peace in your heart.

    1. We’re on the same page as that’s how this post naturally evolved. I keep wanting to pick up the phone to chat with her and realize I can’t and that’s been really hard this week. I think she would love seeing how supportive you are. She was 91 and still got on Facebook and read my blog everyday! She was always learning!

  9. So sorry for your loss Megan… I loved your self care post and I am sure that your Grandma is so proud! Looking forward to your fitness guide in 2019! I agree with all of your tips here especially water… I find drinking other things like tea and seltzer are a great way to mix up staying hydrated!

  10. I was sad to read of your Grandma’s passing, she sounded like such an amazing woman. I am so happy that you got to see her recently and that she got to meet Jordan, that is so special. I am sure she was just bursting with pride not just over your accomplishments and the amazing content you share here on your blog, but also of the Lovely, Kind and Inspiring person you are. Having been part of your fitness challenges (although I fell off the last one hard thanks to our insane September) I have seen first hand how many people you have touched and helped. You have helped me personally make strides to better fitness, and I am so grateful. I can’t wait for your ebook. You go girl! xoxoxo

  11. So very sorry to hear about your grandma. I had a similar relationship with mine, and it was difficult seeing her pass…though she was also ready. May all the great memories, love and wisdom fill your heart and soul. Wishing you and your family peace during this challenging time.
