Decorating Our Fall Porch

It took awhile, but Fall has finally found it’s way to Houston and into the HWH household!  Well, the front porch at least! I’m one of those people that loves to embrace every season of the year, but there’s something extra special about Fall.  It’s the beginning of cozy and as the daylight starts to end sooner, we start nesting inside and enjoying the comforts of home even more.

On a chilly morning, I savor my hot cup of coffee and enjoy every last sip- sometimes outside while the weather is crisp and cool.  We snuggle a little longer on the couch in cozy blankets. On Sunday, big pots of gumbo or chili are simmering on the stovetop.  It’s all about those comforts of home lately and I’m getting into the autumn spirit with a sprinkling of Fall decor!

When we’ve been out running errands or just away from home, it feels great to pull up to the house and have a lovely Fall display welcome us home.  It’s a reminder of the safe, inviting place awaiting us inside.

Our porch isn’t that big, but there’s still room to liven it up with a few Fall touches.

First up, mums and pumpkins!  I’ve seen mums in so many beautiful colors this year, and decided to stick with the traditional warm Fall colors- orangey/red.  And then we added in pumpkins in different shapes and sizes for a layered look.

On the opposite side, I added in a vase of tall birch logs and faux leafy branches for height.

The kids are always moving the pumpkins around and it’s cute to see how they end up! It always reminds me #Jordanwashere

And how about this adorable doormat that says, “Hey there pumpkin”!  I couldn’t pass it up!  Then, I layered a black and white checkered mat underneath for a contrast in texture and pattern.

HYDRANGEA WREATH

Ok, so let me tell you a secret about the two hydrangea wreaths hanging on the door.  I made them!

Make your own wreath : Faux Hydrangea, Foam Wreath, Wire Cutter

It was a super easy project and all you need is faux hydrangea branches, wire cutters, and a wreath form (I used a 14-inch form).

You just cut the hydrangea blooms from the stem with the wire cutters, leaving enough of a stem (about 2-3 inches) to stick into the wreath form.  Vary up the colors and pattern to your liking, making sure not to leave any blank spaces.  Then, you can add in some of the unused leaves from the branches for extra adornment.

How to Make a Hydrangea Wreath

Working at home all day, I’m inside a lot, so I take every opportunity to go outside and get some fresh air.  I try to do that for a few minutes in the morning, mid-day, and in the afternoon or evening with the kids.

We have this bench that’s handy for just chilling and drinking coffee and watching the kids play.  But, if you know my girl, she’s more of the “play WITH me” type, so there’s not usually much sitting and watching. 😉

OUR LITTLE DANIEL TIGER

When we were finishing up taking these pictures, we realized we had the cutest little spy on our hands!

So of course we invited her outside, but she had to put on her Halloween costume first!

I searched high and low for her costume and found it at a random place online, but it’s sold out now.  Luckily, I found one on Amazon- Daniel Tiger Costume

She’s obsessed with the show and chose her own costume this year!  Of course, as her mama, I think she’s the cutest Daniel Tiger there ever was!

FALL DINING ROOM DECOR

So far, there’s only a few Fall touches inside, but I loved the dining room we had last year, so I’m thinking of redoing it the exact same way!  There’s nothing wrong with that, right?!

I’m so smitten with the color combo of traditional oranges and browns, but with the unexpected cool blueish/grey tones. I thought they mixed beautifully with the fresh hydrangeas and blue water glasses.

And you are not wrong, Jordan IS the cutest Daniel Tiger! You guys are going to have such a fun Halloween with her this year! What is James being?

    1. Hey you! Hope you are doing well! James is going to be DJ Marshmallow for Halloween! I hadn’t even heard of it, but he showed me and we are making the costume this weekend!
