This & That | Transitional Fall Fashion, Decor Updates & James’ Room

Hi friends and happy Friday!  I’m finally feeling like I’m getting my back-to-school groove on now that we finished Week #2!  Last Sunday night, I made myself a schedule for the whole week and it really helped keep me on track.  I shared on Stories and got lots of requests for more about that, so I’ll share on Monday with a free printable you can customize for yourself!

This week was a full one, starting with the Organized Living Room and how we handle all the toys.  Yesterday, I shared an easy, yummy Slow Cooker White Chicken Chili.  With busy school days upon us, having dinner ready to go with minimal effort is a lifesaver!

I’m most excited about the Fitness Challenge Announcement! We’re launching soon, so sign up for the FREE challenge by subscribing to my blog and Weekend Newsletter! You can also join the private Honey We’re Healthy Facebook Group to be a part of the HWH Fitness Challenge Community!

THIS & THAT

Today’s  post is a hodgepodge of everything that’s been happening around here and I’m super excited to update you on James’ room. It’s really coming along!  But first, let’s talk transitional fall fashion and the shoes I’m obsessed with lately!

FALL TRANSITIONAL SHOE

These calf hair leopard mules are bananas good! They are so so cute and the clean style is perfect for lots of outfits!  It’s has a rounded, square toe and the sides have a cute little v-cut.  They slip right on and feel as easy to wear as sandals.

FIT: I found they fit TTS, but some reviewers said they ran slightly small.

It’s still hot here (wahhh!),  so I’ve been wearing my slides with jeans and short sleeve tops.  They are so comfortable for running around in and I love how they make any outfit look so EXTRA!

These skinny mini jeans give you legs for days! They are a mid-rise with a bit of stretch.  I love the medium wash and slight whiskering at the hips.  They also have a comfortable ‘Ab-solution’ powermesh panel to “mold and hold, a waistband with interior control and booty-lift construction.”  #youhadmeatbootylift

I also like the  Leopard Loafers.  They are a bit dressier with a pointy toe and darker leopard pattern.  You could definitely wear these at work or anywhere else!

FALL HOME DECOR

The transition to back to school is giving me all the Fall feels, and I think we’ll start decorating for Fall soon.

DINING ROOM

We usually keep the seasonal decor relatively simple, except when it comes to Christmas!  But for Autumn, some leaves, pumpkin, and warm plaids go a long way. Our Fall dining room last year was one of my favorites!

Do you decorate for Fall?  If so, when??

JAMES’ ROOM UPDATE

In June we started to makeover my 8 year-old son, James room!  He inherited the king bed and it was overwhelming the space. Plus, the room was lacking any real character that reflected his fun and playful personality.

Here is his room BEFORE:

Boys room

At the last update, we had a replaced the king leather bed with a navy upholstered queen bed.  The smaller bed fits the room better and gives James more space to play.

We also painted the walls Sherwin Williams Divine White with a blue paint on the trim and doors.

Now, wallpaper has been hung and the new desk and bookshelf has arrived and been installed!

SERENA & LILY FEATHER WALLPAPER

I’ve had my eye on this wallpaper forever! It’s a great backdrop for the room and I’m crazy for the pattern. I think it’s a style that can grow with him through the years.  I was so happy when I showed it to James and asked if he would like to have in his room and he said sure!

This time, the wallpaper installer we hired scraped the orange peel texture off of the wall to give it a super smooth surface before hanging the wallpaper.

Serena & Lily Feathers Wallpaper

We also added a new desk and bookshelf in a more rustic modern tone that is perfect for a boys room.  I looked everywhere for a desk that would be the right size for this space and we are still playing with weather it will stay in this spot or go right next to his bed.

The desk doesn’t have a drawer, but it does have a two shelves so we could put a couple of baskets there to hold desk supplies.

Serena & Lily Feathers Wallpaper

The bookshelf has that similar wood and metal vibe and I like the decorative wheels on the bottom.  The shelves aren’t styled, but we’re sorting through James books to see which ones he will keep, save for Jordan, or donate.  I’m so thankful he loves to read!

Rustic Modern Bookshelf

We still have some work to do before the room is “complete”.  On the list is:

  • Add drapes
  • Complete the bedding
  • Add Houston Astros decor
  • Find a new lamp & desk chair
  • Decided if we’ll add a rug
  • Style the bookshelves
  • Hang sports plaques

My goal is to finish the room by the end of September!

JORDAN’S FAVORITE TOY – ICE CREAM CART

If you get invited to a 2 year-old birthday party or need a Christmas gift, this ice cream cart is a big hit!  Jordan loves serving ice cream to us all day long.  She can drive the cart around and add different flavors and toppings with the magnetic scoop.  It also has cards with playful phrases that introduce colors and numbers and instructions.  She’s so funny how she wants me to sit on the opposite side and take my order through the window!

READING & WATCHING

On Netflix we’re binging on the new season of Orange is the New Black.  The show follows Piper Chapman, an engaged PR executive from New York who winds up in jail when her past catches up to her.  It’s sometimes dark and intense, but the characters hook you!

As for books, I’m reading Girl, Wash Your Face after really enjoying hearing from Rachel Hollis on The Skinny Confidential podcast recently.  It’s an easy read with real life wisdom from someone who’s been there.

I’m hooked on Annie Jaffrey‘s You Tube channel.  She’s a true beauty inside and out and I love her weekly vlogs as well as her healthy eating tips and positive attitude.  #girlcrush

FALL FASHION DRESSING ROOM TRY-ON HAUL

Now onto my latest trip in to the dressing room!  I found some really cute transitional Fall pieces at LOFT I couldn’t wait to show you!

My Size Reference: I’m short (5’1) and petite, athletic build (bigger legs), weighing about 112 lately and wear a 34D bra.  I typically wear size 0p/25 jeans, XSP in tops and dresses.

Floral Top • Skinny Jeans

I adore this floral tank with a darker background, making it perfect for transitioning to Fall.  It’s silky smooth in the front with a t-shirt material back.  You’ll love wearing this both to the office and on the weekends.

Top Fit: TTS, wearing XSP

Boyfriend Cardigan

If your office gets chilly, you can layer on this lightweight cardigan.  It’s not at all chunky or bulky, so you can wear this one now.

Skinny Jeans  The mid-rise jeans are the skinny crop with a frayed edge hem.  I love how stretchy and comfortable they are, while still maintaining their shape.

Shell

The pretty cool mint color of this camisole tank caught my eye immediately.  It’s also mixed media with a silky front and t-shirt back.  The split neckline is sweet with the modern cutouts.

Top Fit: TTS, wearing XSP

Striped Top

You cannot go wrong with jeans, a black and white striped top and a pop of leopard! This tee has a thicker, textured feel to it with a rounded neck and folded sleeve.

Mixed Media Ruffle Top

How about the look of layers without the added bulk?!  Yes, please!  This grey, 3/4 sleeve top is my favorite style with a tiny bit of cream ruffle peeking out at the bottom.  Flirty and feminine at the same time!

Tiered Sleeve Tee

The double ruffled sleeve on this simple black tee takes it up a notch.  The fabric is also incredibly comfortable- it definitely came home with me!

Jacquard Skirt

I swapped out the jeans for a textured jacquard skirt that is a great work option.  I like the stretchy waistband and that it has pockets!

Black Dress

This dress is a definite WINNER!  It feels crisp and cool on and the shape is divine!  It has slight ruffled sleeves, tucks in at the waist and has an asymmetric ruffle hem.  It could be worn on date night and also dressed up with jewels and heels for a fancy Fall party or wedding.

I’ve also seen it listed on Loft’s site as ‘wear to work’ because it’s still cut on the conservative side.

Floral Eyelet Dress

I wanted to wear this flirty dress right out of the store!  It’s lined and has the cutest whimsical pattern.  The eyelet at the hem is a thoughtful detail.

Striped Dress

I’m all for a striped shirt dress, especially one this comfortable.  It feels like pajamas on, but is lined at the top for an added layer.

Romper

You might be in the mood for sweaters, but this romper was too cute to pass up!  The chambray material is super soft and comfortable and it’s modestly cut.  The waist draws you in and of course I like that it has pockets!

I’m always a fan of LOFT’s Modern Skinny Jeans because they fit well, look cool and have just a teensy bit of stretch. This pair is out in a new wash and perfectly distressed.

I’m smitten with the soft ruffled sleeve tee.  This one can be worn for all kinds of occasions from work to weekend.  I really wanted it in all the colors. The square neck (which you kind of miss out on with my hair down) adds that extra detail too!

Here’s the top in a pretty pale blue with a skinny style polka dot pant.  I thought these would be a fun chance from your solid black slacks for work.  They are quite comfortable and the material is nice and thick.

Ali-Shaun made all kinds of fun of me in this denim skirt, but I liked it!  It’s a great length, stretchy and the button front gives it a little something extra!

SKIRT FIT: TTS, XSP

Ali-Shaun Size Reference: She’s taller (5’4), hourglass shape with a small waist and fuller bust and hips, weighing 138.  Ali-Shaun is usually size 8-10 in jeans, and Medium or size 8 in tops and dresses.

Top • Jeans

Al-Shaun was looking for some styles she could wear to the office and on the weekend and loved this white blouse.  It’s got ruffled sleeves and button detailing, with a silky smooth fabric.

She was a fan of these jeans too and liked the dark wash that will go with everything. She rolled the hem to expose the cuff.

TOP : M

JEANS : 30P

Top • Jeans

This top is a soft, thin knit with a cute side tie detail.  If you look closely, it’s actually flecked with tiny dots of color.

The frayed hem crop jeans were her favorite, but just a tad too short in my opinion.  I’d like to see them about an inch longer since she has longer legs, even though they are supposed to be crop.

How cute is this white balloon sleeve sweater?! I took it home with me and will wear it with jean shorts until it gets cool enough to pair with jeans and booties.  I wore a nude bra underneath an didn’t feel like I needed a cami, but you can wear one.

  2. Megan, This is an amazing post, I love, love, love your shoes, console table, and the bed. It’s funny, I just purchased fabric yesterday to make one of these headboards. Exactly like yours in the picture. I love your dresses as well. Your friend also looks gorgeous and great to see her that she can wear any color now.

  3. Love the dressing room posts! What size are you wearing in the Mixed Media Top? Is Ali-Shaun wearing the medium petite? The reviews online say it runs big and I just can’t decide what size to get! Thanks!

  4. Love your blog. As a fellow shortie with a similar build, (though waaaay older!) I really appreciate your outfit tips. In fact, I’ve got two casual outfits “copied” for traveling to a weekend wedding. Keep the inspiration coming!
